There is nothing easier for an agent than to promote his player by ‘leaking’ that a club is interested in his client. Agent contacts scout noting the player’s situation and scout acknowledges information. This is often just a thumbs up sign, but that’s enough for the agent to confirm the club are considering his player.
Scouts are incentivised to be polite to agents and vice-versa. Clubs get annoyed at distractive headlines suggesting they are pursuing a player whom they are not, but are not sufficiently troubled to upset an agent trying to get his player a deal.
Of course Odsonne Edouard’s agent contacted Celtic about the player’s availability, of course Celtic were polite when approached. Is Odsonne on our target list? Only if he is super-cheap. Even then…..

Djeidi Gassama does look the part and it is certainly interesting that R2ngers are looking at development players.
I don’t think Brendan Rodgers would sign him, not for the reasons Stebhoy mentioned, though.
We need a higher calibre of winger with more experience.
My feeling if BR&CO signed him after we have been linked to Michel-Ange Balikwisha and players of that calibre, the fanbase would be very disappointed.
Think Nygren is better and was cheaper anyhow.
It is a little concerning activity in the market seems to have stalled while the team are in Portugal.
My concerns would be outgoings though, with Meada not signed up to a contract extension and rumours of other first team players moving on.
Brendan mentioned players that have been here a long time and the need for a refresh.
We may well be waiting on sales before we complete our new signings.

So we do have a recruitment team ? The line up may have changed ( thankfully ) but it’s still a team that scout the market, the data base, and make and take in the recommendations. One or two supporters prefer to ignore it to persue their own agendas.
Celtic need to operate in the higher price range of player, that includes ‘the metrics’ they can afford it and financial prudence can still prevail. If they don’t we’re back among most the dead men, trading blows with mini buy surplus players from Europe.
The Scottish Cup final contained an element of fate , a team that cost 10 ten times, more than the ‘ oil capital of the world ‘ could muster. Ironic failure faltering whilst running on empty during Celtic’s most successful period in our lifetime.
Plenty of punts will become available with six weeks to go, but the Celtic ‘marquee’ signing will now cost £15M -£20M. Imagine much baulking in the boardroom where they prefer someone with the ryes of the bargain hawk.
