ON-FIRE FORREST HAS THISTLE IN HIS SIGHTS

JAMES FORREST is already a record-breaker at Celtic – with half of the season still to play.

The in-form winger netted his 13th goal of the term when he slammed in the opener in the 5-0 stroll against Championship side Brechin City in the Scottish Cup at Parkhead on Saturday.

Forrest has already surpassed his previous best in the scoring stakes at the Hoops – and he is looking to add to his prolific tally in the Premiership encounter against Partick Thistle at Firhill tomorrow evening.

He said: “I felt as though last season was the best campaign of my career, but I do feel like I have kicked on since then.

“I am pleased with the goals because that is something that I had spoken to the manager about at the start of the season.

“To be scoring so often is good, but I don’t want to stop now. I want to kick on and keep working hard and, hopefully, I can get the rewards.

“I do think I have improved, but it comes down to working hard and trying to be as consistent as possible.

“It is nice to be able to see that on the pitch. I am delighted with the goals because it really was something that I wanted to add to my game.

“I don’t have any big targets in mind, I just want to make sure I keep scoring and helping us win as many matches as possible.”

Forrest expects a tough 90 minutes at Firhill and added: “I think we will all see the benefit of our time in Dubai.

“We had played an awful lot of football between June and Christmas and I reckon you need a mental break as well as a physical one.

“Having got that, I think we will start to see us at our best.

“We have a busy couple of weeks now, but over the piece it is not as demanding as what it was in the first half of the season.

“You know that and expect it, but it is good to be able to rest for a bit and I think it will help us as we look to play the kind of football we want.

“Thistle are usually pretty well organised and they will look to make it as awkward as possible for us.

“You always know that you have to be ready to go and stick to your own game and if we do that then, hopefully, we can pick up the three points.”
