Leigh Griffiths problems are significant enough for him to be sent home from the club’s training camp.  While no charges have been made and none may be made, online speculation can jeopardise a successful prosecution.

Whatever you heard happened, this is not the place to repeat hearsay.  Notwithstanding that, it is likely the end of the road for Leigh.

There is often confusion about fitness

Generally when teams lose fluff their lines , they are accused of not being fit , the more you screw up the louder the accusations of being unfit

The reason we appeared to be unfit last season was nothing to do with rubbish sports science say versus Ross County , St J , St M sports science… it was all to do with a disorganised tactical setup which got worse when we fielded subs around the 70 mins… our very fit guys were looking around wondering what was going on

This in turn was partly due to the other teams reading our game and our mgt not addressing that problem

I believe this is a more reasonable explanation than sacking swathes of supposed incompetent staff

The solution may well involve upping our fitness levels but we do also need to vary our play significantly from what we have been used to …. traditionally this takes about 18 months to blend a team so strap yourself in for some highs and lows in the next while

    SONSOFERIN

Those seemingly favourable metrics could probably be applied to most of the teams who have dumped us out of Europe in recent seasons .

Meanwhile , our ratio of ‘signing targets’ to actual signings is still running at a thousand to one.

  3. Mel-M @ well past his bedtime

    BM — pretty cheap comment.

As it turned out he had health issues and we were lucky to get the years we did.

Youngest LL and the first to leave us.

JS did his best to keep him on track.

In fact he might be one of the LL’s that he let go too early.

A partnership with DH and GC would have been something to dream about.

You are getting your excuses in early.

Our fitness levels have fallen over a period of 36 months.

We were shocking last season — lack of focus and energy was there for all to see.

AP by having a plan and a goal will transform the team.

Giving game time and exposure to the youths / stiffs will shake up the NT clique / want-aways.

We have a huge amount of talent in the squad.

just a case we had no coaching or conditioning.

Finally getting the youths out front so that the support can see them is the way forward.

Some of the play on show on Wednesday was shocking.

BC has been talked as some sort of star in the making.

For 30 minutes he looked like Bambi on Ice.

He needs to up his game.

One of too many — living in an inward looking bubble that struggles to deal with reality.

  5. Glendalystonsils – You’re right, despite all the metrics in the world football remains a game of chance. I just provide the stats, how much faith you put in those metrics is between you and your bookie.

I can’t help with signing chances I’m afraid, other than to say the empirical evidence isn’t looking promising.

  6. P67 — any chance you could stop all these tabloid headlines in the news articles?

Flop and mis-fit are not really the full story of the players involved.

  7. Did that other mob not tank the team we are playing in the CLQ last season . And is this position we are in at the moment not the same as previous seasons , wait to see how we progress in Europe before spending any money . Did someone report lawell has left the club .

  8. !!Bada Bing!! on

3,500 at a Fanpark, 12k at Hampden, 16k at Murrayfield, and we get 2k for a 60,000 seat stadium? Nonsense…

  9. JimTim – Two years ago. sevco beat them 4-2 in Denmark, and 3-1 in Glasgow.

    ———

You’ve lost me there bud …

Your general point that we’ll be transformed by being fitter , is in my view part of the answer but not the whole picture …. To believe we had no coaching / conditioning and now we will is in my view naive … we need a better blend in the team , play differently and yes fitness may give us an edge in some games

  11. EKB @ 4.12

OK — fair point / try again.

Our physical performance last season was shocking.

Slow motion football in the first half followed by stamina issues in the second.

Primary reason = Lack of fitness / speed training.

Secondary reason = Poor / no tactics plus NT clique on strike.

Hopefully both issues will now be addressed.

  12. STT @ 4.15

Barry Coffey — pardon my spelling.

Left MF player on for the third session.

He looked lost for most of his time on the pitch.

He has been talked up as being a good creative MF.

However he was put to shame by those around him.

And the 3rd session MF had its issues — no DM protecting the back 4.

    Consequently erse into gear time.

Shamrock Rovers XI (All Ireland XI) versus Brazil OTD 3/7/73. Captains Wilson Piazza & Johnny Giles are pictured along with referee Dominic Byrne of Dublin.

*I recall this so well, although wiki indicates that the owner of the Shamrock Rovers persuaded João Havelange to include a match against an “Ireland XI” on the itinerary for their nine-match summer tour of Europe, reportedly promising him the FAI vote in the 1974 election for President of FIFA 1974 which I don’t doubt as Havelange was a crook this was actually the brain child of Derek Dougan.

The Doog was always after an all-Ireland fitba side similar tae Rugby and was responsible for recruiting the players, I was surprised that Bestie wisnae included as they were pretty friendly but this game occurred around the time his career was in decline.

If you read the wiki on the game it looks as if the FAI were keen for an all Ireland side but not so the IFA which is a tragedy as the talent available would surely have made a bigger dent on the world stage.

Big Derek released one of the best fitba/Ireland books I ever read “The Sash He Never Wore”.

  14. EK @ 4.12

    Third attempt.

Seemingly AP has presented our squad with the performance numbers from his Japanese League squad to highlight how far behind we were performing at.

Nationally we are some way behind other countries / leagues.

The surprised looks of too many playing in Europe as they are out-muscled by opponents has been a common theme. Possible it is the flat track bully syndrome of playing in the SPL and then being surprised by the rest of the world.

If you are not fit then you are nothing.

The days of AR being carried over to take a free kick are 40 years ago.

  19. so back to the Radio Athlone.

when out in longford at the center parcs and in the forest, the radio kept bouncing on to SPRIT radio, which my kid and neice found funny as the little sound bites of Psalms and religious pep talks came up.

    I found it quite quaint.

Mrs and her mam , whit is this stuff, get it aff. Get some proper music on, no listening to that.

When we got back, I stumbled on the channel one time driving down the coast, and locked it into the car radio.

Every now and again, when I know mrs is using my car next i leave it so it comes on when she starts the car.

  20. Rolling_Stone @ 2:26 pm

“Should we really be on the same level as Midjtyland? It was noted that they had a turnover of £22m (it could be Euro) when they qualified for the CL last year (I’m sure it will have gone up significantly this year on account of CL participation).

So why are we sitting around the same level as a team with a turnover roughly 1/4 of ours?

Maybe they are punching above their weight or we are punching below our weight, or maybe a hefty combination of both?

    ——————————

There are a lot of factors in deciding how good a team would be and income is only one of them. Level of footballing ability in the nation needs to be considered. Denmark won the Euros once and should have been a penalty shootout away from having a chance to repeat that feat. Scotland have never progressed from a Euro Group on the rare occcasions they get their, Now, I accept the cream of the Denmark Squad are with foreign clubs but the next generation of good youngsters are still there domestically.

Another factor is the competitiveness of the league. Is competing for the title with Brondby and Copenhagen and others a better preparation for Europe than playing Sevco, Dons and Hibs? Are the weaker teams – Horsens , Lyngby and Vejke better than our bottom 4 ? I don’t know but it is a possibility.

I am not saying they are as good as us;I am just saying it is damn close and anyone using the phrase pub team is a Promoted Eejit in the Order of Unredeemable Eejits.

  21. ST x 2 @ 4.41

It might come as a bit of a shock to you but we got our erse handed to us on a plate last season by quite a few teams last season. If you think more of the same will be good enough this season then prepare for more failure.

That failure did not happen by chance — there were reasons behind it.

Fix those failures and we might have a chance.

My biggest worry is the DD / Irish Raj hidden agenda — give TFOD2.1 an easy season including CL qualification to make them more attractive to the EPL so that we both get an invite to whatever changes are being planned south of the border.

Having Brighton / Brentford / Burnley / Watford in the top flight plus even Crystal Palace and Norwich is not where they want to be.

It gives DD a nice loose string to pull.

  22. CardboardCSC on

On the fitness level of players I’m sure with fans support and encouragement at games the levels would go up. That’s not an excuse for slacking but only natural imo. On the Griffiths situation, I read somewhere that his initial interaction with the girl was when she posted a picture of herself in her underwear and he reacted by liking it. Beggars belief if true. The young yins these days. HH

    Against my better judgement but…….

where does this info lie on a 5 point scale from

Invented fact to support my argument

    Ill-informed scuttlebut

Someboody told me and I have no reason to doubt it.

Insider info but I cannot reveal my sources for some unspecified reason

Or Genuine information and I can prove it.

Reember we get the fitness stats on metres run after every UEFA tie- they do not show what you are claiming.

EKBhoy’s analysis at 3.53 rings more true as an explanation. Like the Morecambe and Wise joke about Greig (Edvard not John) they were running about fine; they were just doing it in the wrong places.

  24. sack everybody.

take every structure and organisation and start again,

    a complete rebuild.

    close the academy.

take the talented kids and leave them in their own schools.

anyone that ever knew Peter Lawwell she be banned from even attending a match.

i am worried already about the season after next as surely we will be battling relegation.

God loves a trier and heaven help us you love your excuses.

The Danish league only went professional in the 1970s.

We should expect to beat any team from Denmark.

If we don’t then we will have failed and we are paying big money to small players.

PL has gotten us into this trough.

Hopefully new blood will get us back up and running.

  26. SFTB @ 4.58

Last season the NT clique of non triers were prone to doing wee sprints in games at the strangest of time to no great effect — you have to wonder why?

Surely they were not trying to game their opta stats?

I am not sure what games / teams you were watching last season but we were crap at just about every level.

We have to improve starting with fitness and performance.

If you were happy with the situation last season then I cannot help you.

And this article below is a good ‘un

    https://thecelticstar.com/opinion-governments-celtic-park-decision-is-utterly-baffling/

There is a question of fairness here but, respectfully, it’s not about Celtic’s ballot.

Re this decision and others before it – I personally cannot escape the conclusion that the current Scottish Government will bend over backwards to be seen to NOT make any accommodation whatsoever of Celtic Football Club.

  28. M X 2 (abbreviations are us)

who do you know in the whole Celtic organisational structure and what insider information, or qualification have you, that means your right and they are all wrong ?

you failed to answer earlier questions for some reason.

  29. MadMitch – I agree that our fitness levels weren’t as good as they were and it’s definitely an area we’ve fallen behind in. I wasn’t a fan of Ange being appointed (and do think we could have done better) but one thing he said that did make me warm to him is that he knew he had to work on things like conditioning, nutrition, etc because Aussie footballers didn’t have the quality of opponents – that’s true of us in Europe. I’d hope to see someone brought in soon to replace the guy who went to Liepzig – ideally 2 – one Ange’s man to set standards and one Celtic’s man to maintain and develop that when Ange is gone.

  30. I concur on the attendance thing,

In a space so vast and open, who decided the number 2,000 versus 60,000 capacity. less than 4%

15,000 at hampden just a couple of weeks ago,

    who decides ?

what is happening at other stadiums ?

  31. so 14% of capacity allowed at fir park, same actual number of 2,000.

There will be sectarian walks on the streets with bigger attendances.

  32. Mad Mitch

We used to beat the Danish teams for fun when we were world class and they were near amateurs but that is 50 years ago now.

Our overall record is played 14 won 7 drawn 3 and lost 4.

Our recent record is less impressive. We played Copenhagen 4 times and won once, losing twice.

These are the facts not the excuses.

I understand why egotists prefer their perceptions to the facts but it is not convincing.

Now, about my 5 point scale???
