GIORGOS GIAKOUMAKIS may be stripped of penalty-taking duties after missing his THIRD spot-kick as Celtic lost 4-2 in the shoot-out to Everton after the goalless draw in the Accor Stadium this morning.

The match went to a shoot-out and, unfortunately, the Hoops emphasised they had left their shooting boots at home when the Greek striker and Reo Hatate both missed from 12 yards.

Giakoumakis failed to hit the target while the Japanese midfielder’s effort hit the woodwork with James Forrest and Liel Abada successful with their attempts.

Four pens from the Merseysiders eluded Joe Hart to at least give the Everton fans in the ground something to cheer.

UP AND OVER…Giorgos Giakoumakis wildly blasts the ball off target as Ismar Begovic goes the wrong way.

KNOCK ON WOOD…Reo Hatate watches as his effort strikes the inside of the post with the Everton keeper relieved.

Giakoumakis’ other two penalty-kick failures both came against Livingston, in the 0-0 draw in Glasgow last season, and the 3-0 win in West Lothian last month.

Ange Postecoglou could order some extra shooting practice for his players during the club’s winter break in Portugal.

Forget the spot-kick misses, of much more concern for the Hoops manager will be the fact his team could only claim a solitary goal – Kyogo Furuhashi’s deflection in the 2-1 loss to the local A-League team in the opening game in the Sydney Cup on Thursday – in three hours of football on his return to Australia.

The champions travelled Down Under for the inaugural tournament on the back of two odd-goal Premiership wins – both 2-1 against Motherwell at Fir Park and Ross County at Parkhead – and their finishing was not up to the standard required in the past three days in front of thousands of Oz-based Celtic fans.

Postecoglou’s men dominated both games, but failed to convert that possession into goals.

Time to sort that out before the Premiership return against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday December 17.
