One day in Fife

519

Over 70 CQN’ers gathered in Aberdour, Fife, on Friday for our eighth annual charity golf day.  As before, the day was hugely successful.  Both those there on the day, and hundreds more who contributed beforehand, raised over £6,000 since we kicked off the summer’s fundraising activity in May.

This year LIvingston manager and former Celtic player, John Hughes, gave his time to entertain us with a mixture of great anecdotes and outrageous anecdotes.  The big man spoke warmly of his time at Celtic, the joy of signing and working for Tommy Burns, that goal at Ibrox, and how he still benefits from his time learning from Tommy.

Many sincere thanks to Taggsy, BlantyreKev, Jonnybhoy, Barassiebhoy for organising an excellent event yet again.  A special mention for Oldtim, for more than I am prepared to tell you, and to everyone who contributed to an excellent Celtic occasion.

  1. Today’s Sunday Herald recycles NL’s long standing wish for qualit central defender and physically imposing striker.

Just how long is PL going to keep Neil waiting?

  2. Re the fans, I reckon if the perfromances on the park improve then we will see many fans coming back, coupled with the chance to qualify fot the CL group stages and a good draw.

Was speaking to an old friend about a supporters bus we travelled on from 94-03. We used to have a full 52 seater every game with many visitors on top of that, we guessed that nowadays only about 8 still have season books. Sad

You are right that big crowds of recent years were the exception and we are reverting to a more ‘normal’.

I worry about the impact of live TV and hope that we have nt given away extra home games for live TV as part of the recent deal.

I’m suspicious about that because so far we only have live games announced for August. It may be to do with Europe but I am worried about the delay (especially as I travel up from England).

BTW, I sit in the main stand and I can assure you that everyone in he upper Lisbon lions would have fit into a third of he stand.

For the quality of defender and strikers we and Neil Lennon desire

We are going to be waiting a very long time ,if ever, for PL to release that sort of money

Summa (and others) – i am a wee bit confused – are you telling me that if it was up to the celtic board they would have got Rangers back in the SPL?

Bourne’s – scotland spoke – but we will all need to do it again….

Bet you last thin dime they would.

  12. alderside

Hadn’t thought about that, hope not, but there will be two home games to replace against ‘thems’, right away.

The old addage of the crowd only being there to make an atmosphere for those watching on TV, is forever true especially because of SKY.

  13. Steady VP … from Embra not Cleptostan ! (Thanks MM!)

If that is the case, and I for one believe that it is, it is time for PL and others to stop even mentioning Celtic doing reasonably well in Europe and admit that group stages of Europa League is, and for the foreseeable future the limit of our ambition. PL has asked the fans to rally round the flag. In return he should be giving them absolute honesty on the above.

Yesterday’s dismal attendance wasn’t about corporates. The upper Lisbon Lions sand was less than half full probably a third of seats were taken.

SKY’s corrosive influence was damaging yesterday given the fact that attendance was down 5k on Wednesday.

Sixty years since the much maligned Robert Kelly warned about the detrimental effect that TV would have on football.

  16. Maybe the situation is that Neil wants or is prepared to wait to see if CL qualification will release more funds for a better quality CB target rather than go for a target in the Fojut range which I assume he would be sanctioned to source right now if he wanted.

But far be it from me to interfere with anyone’s fantasy that we would be beating Barca were it not for the dead hand of Peter Lawwell :-)

  19. Afternoon bhoys, too hot outside, but it’s as ever hun free.

I would doubt that is the case, we will only have a few days to source and sign a CH, IF we qualify for the group stages.

We all but had Fojut signed, where is his replacement I ask myself, confusing for us, wonder what Lenny makes of it all……….

  20. Quonno.

Peter Lawell has supported Lenny’s desire to sign a big powerful centre half and a striker already.

It’s not his fault Wilson,Mastorovich ,and Murphy haven’t worked out.

“we will only have a few days to source and sign a CH, IF we qualify for the group stages.”

Agreed, IF we were starting from scratch.

However, if we have two options on standby willing to join the club, one which is dependent on us negotiating the next qualifying round and the other willing to come regardless, then a few days will be enough.

We might even get both if Kelvin Wilson is transferred.
