One day in Fife

519

Over 70 CQN’ers gathered in Aberdour, Fife, on Friday for our eighth annual charity golf day.  As before, the day was hugely successful.  Both those there on the day, and hundreds more who contributed beforehand, raised over £6,000 since we kicked off the summer’s fundraising activity in May.

This year LIvingston manager and former Celtic player, John Hughes, gave his time to entertain us with a mixture of great anecdotes and outrageous anecdotes.  The big man spoke warmly of his time at Celtic, the joy of signing and working for Tommy Burns, that goal at Ibrox, and how he still benefits from his time learning from Tommy.

Many sincere thanks to Taggsy, BlantyreKev, Jonnybhoy, Barassiebhoy for organising an excellent event yet again.  A special mention for Oldtim, for more than I am prepared to tell you, and to everyone who contributed to an excellent Celtic occasion.

Aye, it’s a possibility, but, if we don’t qualify, will the CH on standby not be taking a gamble that he gets a club in the remaining days ?

I just think PL should be honest with the support, but he won’t, can’t be telling it like it is likely to be, supporters get frustrated and withold their money.

All true. But such a lot of business IS done in the final few days of the transfer window. It seems to be the preference of players and agents to play the game thus. I guess they all have the option of staying put if they are at a club and, therefore, are willing to carry out brinkmanship.

    Don’t think so,

No new salaries after the ‘loss’ of ‘thems’

The Celtic statement was the clue, and indicated immediate financial climate change.

  8. yeah, we had some brown brogues and blue sashes yesterday too..

an annual march to mark the tragic death of some colliers, a noble march and non-sectarian, originally. 80 men died – as far as i know, 1920’s..

anyway, it seems now that the ‘march’ has been hijacked by the lost ones..

  9. I know the statisticians will say different, but for me Stokes, Hooper doesn’t work.

    I much prefer the 4 , 4 1 ,1 or 4, 3, 2 1 formation.

  10. The CQN Golf Day is a success due to one man……..

    Taggsybhoy.

Big Yogi was great and I,m sure he will be back next year as a paying guest as he enjoyed it so much,

It was great putting names to faces and well done to Pat for joining an elite band(it)

    of men.

Thanks to all who helped make it yet another fantastic day especially those who donated prizes, you know who you are…..

    Looking for help.

I registered for a predictor site for the Spl matches. It was through a Celtic based site. Cant remember which, any suggestions – from what i gathered it is well estsblished

  12. bsr

    Only time will tell.

We get this debate every pre-season with similar predictions and similar dissection of the runes when it comes to discerning what is REALLY meant by each nuance of a statement from Lenny or PL.

Meanwhile, we have shipped a few players from an overblown squad to react to the financial climate and, in addition to the possible loss for big money of Ki or Wanyama, I see strong indications that Murphy and Wilson are being touted for transfer.

As we do not have any reserve capable of covering at CB at SPL level, I would be astounded if a new CB does not arrive. I am hoping that it is not Christophe Berra.

I do worry that we may not get our striking target and may be forced to rely on Mo Bangura.

  14. Well after 7 or 8 years of lurking I’m finally popping my cherry.

Would like to say thanks to all the guys that organised the CQN day at Aberdour, the Dunblane bhoys certainly enjoyed it. Not too sure if our ‘burnt tangerine’ trousers will ever get a showing again though……

I’m still chuckling at the jelly and ice cream to start us off, the day only got better!

That pic you posted of Patsy Gallacher, is there a way of printing that out?

  18. SFTB

Agree with all of that, the second half yearly accounts for 2011 are way down on the previous year.

I think we’ll sell (Ki especially) and there are players still at the club who need to move on.

I hope NL gets his dominant CB, for the first time in his tenure.

Peter Lawell has supported Lenny’s desire to sign a big powerful centre half and a striker already.

It’s not his fault Wilson,Mastorovich ,and Murphy haven’t worked out.

  22. Sydneytim’s. State of the club report 2012

Well here we are , another season and this one Hun free

    But where are our club?

Over the last 4-5 years the lack of investment has now come home to roost

Bring on Daryl Murphy and Kelvin Wilson should have alarm bells ringing

But sadly the situation now is indeed we must tighten our belts

The opportunity to create income with automatic entry for the CL for SPL champions is no more

We had the opportunity to push the boat out and invest back on Tommy burns Thursday , this was ignore and with a shocking” willo window” that followed that our squad went backwards at an alarming rate and the CL income went elsewhere

Those decision , which were wrong, have cost our club dearly and he 2nd half appearance of messers Murphy and Wilson are the result of that policy

Where to now, well if we are cost cutting surely we should be removing an employee responsible for those decisions and that employee is earning EPL wages

My view is we are where we are because our CEO main Kpi did not include buying when the time was right 4 years ago

What I would you right now?. Remove lawell ( saying. Sorry we can’t afford you) and sell Kim for what we can get for him and give all all the money to Neil to help him improve his squad to ensure we don’t see murphy again

What do I think will happen? We will sell Ki and Neil will get a fraction of that money and the rest of the money will go to Peter lawells salary and bonus

    ST

Not lawells biggest fan but Iv had good think about his role and come to the conclusion he is doing his job, if he sanctioned more signings and was bit loose with the purse strings do u think he would be in the job much longer ? He would be replaced and the next guy would be well aware of what he has to do to keep Job.

Lawell obviously has a budget and like anyone with similar job had to stay within it or will be off ski .

Regarding his wages I’m sure he didn’t decide what he would get paid . Maybe it’s time pressure was put on the likes of desmond.
