One for the Zonal Detesters, ‘Playing’ Ashley

499

It was far from beautiful flowing football at Inverness yesterday but the players raised the tempo sufficiently to get the result. Leigh Griffiths scored a classic poacher’s goal. He missed plenty against Kilmarnock and Ajax but that’s part of the territory of being a striker.

I was delighted to see Carlton Cole make his first appearance for the club, and for anyone since last season. His first touch could have resulted in a goal but his sheer body mass caused sufficient panic in the Inverness defence that a goal resulted soon enough. There’s a lot of work ahead as Carlton looks to get match fit but he’s exactly the kind of foil we’ve missed this season.

For all the Zonal Marking Detesters……… We’re now man-to-man and we’re still conceding headers in front of goal. The problem was not resolved with the switch to man-to-man. Defending corner kicks requires a physicality and alertness which we’ve missed all season. The sooner we fix this and get back to zonal the better.

On the subject of physicality, Dedryck, this is your hand. A brick wall should have been thrown up in front of Miles Storey at the Inverness goal. I accept we have unresolved issues at set-pieces and that we’ll lose goals as a consequence. Goals conceded on Thursday – a deflection-come-ricochet, and a breakaway, had little to do with the defence, but yesterday’s Inverness goal was just rank bad defending.

At Carfin on Friday I told Phil MacGiollaBhain that there was no way Dave King could weasel out of paying Mike Ashley his £5m, having said he would do so. Phil referred me to the “glib and shameless liar” part of King’s past and not to be so naive. He could have a point.

Ashley holds the aces here. Any attempt to ‘play’ him will fail.

Seriously – we’ve shipped barrowloads of goals from corners using zonal marking have we? Do you have the facts to back that up?

I never once mentioned solely corners. Reel yer neck in.

Great analogy. There were a few ‘show’ cars parked in drives near oor old school in Jordanhill. Borrowed a few in my time. ;)

  3. Shortbread wheel out Hun Ian Ferguson,to berate Stokes about being disrespectful, the same guy who spat on a DU player, and told Scotland fans to ‘f¥ck off….’

BDO must get their fees approved by a court so they must be able to justify their actions.

However, I expect that they have had plenty to get their teeth into. I may even describe it as succulent business for them.

  5. agree with the above, losing the ball carelessly in the middle of the park cost us the goal, the ball I thought from Johansen was very poor Armstrong was robbed but the intimal ball was the killer. That sort of bad pass when the whole team is breaking forward has cost us dearly all season.

Slightly different tack but interesting to note that Celtic’s first Scottish Cup opponents on 9th/10th January 2016 will be drawn tomorrow :

The draw for the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup will be made at Hampden Park tomorrow (Tuesday 1st December 2015) at 2pm.

Being drawn against Sevco is a possibility. Wonder how SMSM would react to Hoops v Magic Hat ? A welcome diversion from EBTs, court cases and Ashley?

EMBRAMIKE. I have a feeling I might regret this but why do they call the huns manager Magic Hat ? H.H.

  9. Celtic are part of a group of clubs poised to propose change to the qualification system for the Champions League and Europa League competitions.

The Scottish champions’ plea is headed by Legia Warsaw owner Dariusz Mioduski, who says recommendations to end inequality with Europe’s major nations are near.

The current system allows clubs from larger leagues to join the qualification rounds later in the tournament through the seedings of their domestic competition.

    They really are getting desperate.

Sutherland last night – Ronny Deila lost in Europe then had to go to Inverness where he had never won.

Aye – he’s been there twice for goodness sake!

Doomed to failure, probably forget to fill out a form and blame some minion.

Pished the bed and blamed the sheets, and there’s Lawwell wanting to get into bed with that incompetent foo..

  13. BSR-Nicky Clark ,who I believe plays for Sevco and his brother, were lifted for alleged police assault last week, will be interesting to see how that is reported,if convicted, his brother was carrying a knife btw.

That’s why fashion conscious sevconians wear Warburton bread wrappers on their heads – it’s either that or tin foil ! HH

  17. It comes from the Lonnie Donegan song ‘My Old Man’s a Dustman’,of which, many versions by many clubs been used down South

It would appear that the fact you were quoting to me last night, was indeed a lie ad a half.

Or maybe I just had more reliable sources.

As I posted previously, lot knukcle crunching and goat abusing still to be done.

The decision is already a ‘UK-wide ruling’. Decisions from the First Tier Tribunal don’t set any precedents but those at the Upper Tier Tribunal and beyond do. Obviously the judgements at the very highest level carry a little more weight. But be reassured that although the most recent hearing was in Scotland that doesn’t lessen it’s significance whatsoever.

  20. We’re at that point in The Rangers Story when their fans are cheering on the club’s liquidators.

  21. Jobo..,

I simply took it at literal level, a tribunal is no really anything legally, it’s no until decisions are taken in the courts are legal presidencies set, no ?

  22. A good caller on Snyde, I might not agree with all his points, to be honest he puts the Ronnie smsm compared to the paper hat man into reality.

I think you’re being slightly harsh on yesterday’s performance. It came on the back of the crushing disappointment of Thursday night at an away ground where we’ve often struggled. There haven’t been too many occasions where we’ve won by a two goal margin up there.

Ronnie claiming and been given credit for developing McGreggor – who he would never had played if not in dire circumstances…

In fairness to Pedro he fought the corner well

For what it’s worth – i thought Johansons pass to Armstrong was a shocker.. stuarts chest control was poor even given the terrible delivery.

The ict midfielder took full advantage of the misconstrol and broke with pace passing well to the scorer. This left our centre half’s flat footed and the danger was a rash tackle that left us down to 10 men.

I thought Jozo put in a great tackle which knocked the ball towards Craig and I believe he decided not to catch it as the ref would probably have given a free kick ( incorrectly )

Again their striker reacted very well by instantly controlling the ball then slotting home immediately so credit where it’s due

Almost all goals are a result of a mistake somewhere – Scott Allan losing possession on the ajax 18 yard line – their defenders backing off calum and their keeper flat footed and slow to get down. Their keeper not holding Leighs shot at our 3rd goal – no one cutting out keirons cross at the 2nd goal

Its football – we won 3-1 – played better and lost or drew .

    Onwards and upwards
