One man’s cloud

1060

Adam Matthews has been on top form this season, his pace and partnership with Mikael Lustig have been unfailing for Celtic, so Neil Lennon will clearly feel robbed at a top players injury-enforced absence for three months.

It could be worse.

An injury to Forster, Ambrose, van Dijk or Izaguirre would be difficult to accommodate but we are not short of right side-midfield options.  James Forrest is now back from injury and although Derk Boerrigter joined as a left-sided player, he has already featured on the right for Celtic.  If Boerrigter plays on the left Samaras, Commons and Stokes can all feature on the right.

One man’s cloud is another’s silver lining, just ask Beram Kayal, who kept Victor Wanyama on the bench until he was injured in December 2011.  Victor got the run in the team he needed and never looked back.

Signing van Dijk was a response to an unexpected transfer request/not in the right frame of mind to pull a jersey on statement from Kelvin Wilson, but the major planned summer activity was to inject pace into the team for Champions League games, specifically through Boerrigter and Pukki.  For various reasons we’re not there yet, maybe Ajax at home later this month will change that.

Blown away by the 1254125 donations, which have flooded in since Friday. Each donor, from those who donated £5 to the several who gave £125 (like it!) are a credit to the spirit of those whose footsteps you walk in.  Promise to stop pestering with a link to the page.  Soon.

Thank you.

How do I go about taking shares instead of cash dividend. Was unaware of this option.

Any help welcome. Thanks in advance.

  2. Debt problems? Just meet your creditors shrug your shoulders and tell them “But what can you do?”

  3. hun logic….

“There is no common business sense at a club such as Rangers.

“Yes, money is being lost. But what can you do?

“You can’t sit on the board of directors at Ibrox and tell the Rangers fans, ‘We can’t afford to do this.’ You have to go out and find the money to do it.

“If you get into the Champions League you make a profit. Celtic have shown that. So Rangers have to use their money to create a situation where they put a challenge in to Celtic.

“That’s the gamble you take. It’s not a sensible gamble but that’s what you have to do.

“The financial bit of Rangers Football Club and common sense don’t go together.

“But what would have happened if, during Sir David Murray’s time in charge, he hadn’t invested in the team?

“They wouldn’t have got to the Champions League. And the problems Rangers have at the moment weren’t created by putting a whole load of money into the football team.”

  6. Green Man, I don’t want to be pedantic but you mentioned ‘EDL supporters’. You used the plural form. In fact there was only one person showing some sympathy to those morons. Pedantic but important for some of of us involved in that debate.

    Flattered by your compliment.

Yes, I am friendly with big Sid Gallagher, a Clydebank gangster in his day but he was imprisoned for attempted murder despite the fact that he was attacked first. His attacker appeared in court sporting what Sid described as the biggest Masonic blazer badge he has ever seen!

Sid wrote a book about Masonic injustice in his case and has spent the years since coming out of prison (4 yr sentence) protesting about freemasonry in the justice system.

Sid comes from a Masonic family and he knew what went on but there are many more victims who don’t even know how justice failed them because of fraternal bias.

  17. Just read the comments by the Cardigan about Sevco and the previous liquidated club having to lose money as a matter of course. His comments really sum up why the old mob went belly up and why this mob will go the same way.

How this guy could ever have been the chairman of a company is beyond me as he has no idea what running a business is about. To paraphrase him he is saying ‘I know we are making huge unsustainable losses but we have to keep spending money we have not got to keep the supporters happy so it does not matter’. And his best one that the huge losses during the Murray era were nothing to do with spending money on the team’. The guy is really dim but not nice.

A real handy pawn in the hands of the spivs. Green et al must have had a good laugh at putting him to the chairman role. I suppose their person spec for the chair role was a piss artist or someone who has not got a clue.

Mind you he was consistent as he brought to club chairmanship what he brought to football tactics namely negativity. In this case a negative £14 million. .

Amongst other issues that the article raises, is the anachronistic position of International football.

It is a scene that has long outlived it’s relevance.

It used to offer a level of football higher than the domestic football of the day; when foreign players were scarce in countries’ Leagues.

Now, in most countries, the top teams are better than the National side, due to the influx of top players from other countries.

Added to that is the disruption these International games cause to club football and supporters.

At one time, the wages paid for an International game was more than a player’s club wage.

Not any more. The clubs, via their supporters, are subsidising these jaunts.

It is particularly galling in Scotland, where fans are expected to finance an historically corrupt Association, for fear of being branded unpatriotic.

Too much jingoism in the World today, as it is, for my liking.

    Down with Internationals, I say.

  19. So going to have a non football related rant….

I have been going through the process of applying for a new role within the company I work for but this involves relocating to London.

I had a final stage interview early last week which seemed to go very well, I was advised by the hiring manager that it was between myself and one other candidate and that I should hear by the end of last week.

Now the recruitment side of my company is well known for being slow and the whole process can become very frustrating.

Anyway by yesterday I still had not heard anything so initiated a conversation with the hiring manager who apologised and advised there had been delays but reading between the lines it was clear that person had not caused the delays and that the delay was with recruitment.

This morning I came into work and logged into my system to see a placeholder for a meeting with the recruiting manager for this job so felt quite happy that I would at least know the outcome today. Unfortunately the meeting had to be cancelled and won’t be until tomorrow now so I am left sweating for another day waiting to find out!!

I’m a wee bit frustrated to say the least as this is a potentially very big move for me and if I am offered the role and take it I will be moving down to London myself leaving my wife and child at home until we can all relocate but that may take some time! I am now finding it ridiculously difficult to concentrate on anything else this morning!

Now normally at my company if you are unsuccessful in an application you are generally sent an email, and even getting feedback can be a challenge etc.

So in my mind I am wondering

Is the half hour call to offer the job, discuss the salary offer and relocation package

or is it a kinder than normal rejection with time set aside to give feedback or answer any of my questions?

I am not the most patient when it comes to things like this! I like to know what’s happening so I can start planning or move on!

Anyway thanks for letting me rant – I’ll let everyone get back to talking about football now!

oh and STFB – sterling work last night!!

  20. I gather the Cardigan has been telling the faithful that things financial down Govan way are not good. That they have to gamble still is a utter nonsense. We did that once and stopped because of the wise direction of Brian Quinn. They have done so so often, aided and abetted by the MIBs. The chief casualty when that was happening was Celtic Football CLUB (and company). We were the ones cheated. We must never forget that or let it happen again.
