One man’s cloud

1060

Adam Matthews has been on top form this season, his pace and partnership with Mikael Lustig have been unfailing for Celtic, so Neil Lennon will clearly feel robbed at a top players injury-enforced absence for three months.

It could be worse.

An injury to Forster, Ambrose, van Dijk or Izaguirre would be difficult to accommodate but we are not short of right side-midfield options.  James Forrest is now back from injury and although Derk Boerrigter joined as a left-sided player, he has already featured on the right for Celtic.  If Boerrigter plays on the left Samaras, Commons and Stokes can all feature on the right.

One man’s cloud is another’s silver lining, just ask Beram Kayal, who kept Victor Wanyama on the bench until he was injured in December 2011.  Victor got the run in the team he needed and never looked back.

Signing van Dijk was a response to an unexpected transfer request/not in the right frame of mind to pull a jersey on statement from Kelvin Wilson, but the major planned summer activity was to inject pace into the team for Champions League games, specifically through Boerrigter and Pukki.  For various reasons we’re not there yet, maybe Ajax at home later this month will change that.

Blown away by the 1254125 donations, which have flooded in since Friday. Each donor, from those who donated £5 to the several who gave £125 (like it!) are a credit to the spirit of those whose footsteps you walk in.  Promise to stop pestering with a link to the page.  Soon.

Thank you.

sorry i addressed the first paragraph to yourself and meant the 2nd paragraph as a general statement to all, it was not meant to be addressed to you in particular.

in the 2nd paragraph i was referring to another poster who had resorted to personal abuse

i did not mean that to be directed to you.

    I still have a stud-mark from him.

Wisnae deliberate, btw. But I was mightily glad I hadn’t quite hit puberty!

  6. Keith Lasley is a hard tackling midfielder and often a cynical and downright vicious player. This isn’t an anti-Celtic thing, ask fans of most other SPFL clubs and they will have similar stories to tell about Lasley’s antics.

That said, Adam Matthews is now sidelined because of the way he was unfortunate enough to land. I know that the fall resulted from the ‘challenge’, but in most matches you will see a challenge or two from either side on a par with or worse than Lasley’s on Matthews at the weekend. I suspect that’s why Lenny didn’t make a big deal about it after the game.

  7. Thanks for the info lads ….Diesel sounds good ….maybe the old lad will nae smell it …braw! ….spent a good few summers with the Bear …from 78 on to 83 …lot of laughs and yer right that would not have even have happened if Roy had been in the team …they would have known they were gone … braw ….

i too remember willie garner scoring an OG against us on his debut

minutes later a fullah was stretchered around the track in front of the old celtic end (it wasnt uncommon in those days, a casualty tae the drink probably) Anyway as the poor fullah was being carted round the track someone shouted “is that willie garners da”

Get a grip of yourself man, I made you an easy offer which you declined. You then made a sacrifice to support your principles. Your action defines you and my appreciation of you is big.

  12. Lee McCulloch is a wannabe thug but gets away with it cos of his pals in the media. I remember him having a wee fly look to see where Nakamura was before falling backwards and standing on his head. His worst that I can remember was against Hearts where a cross comes into the box he has no chance of getting he then straightens his leg and kicks the keeper. Anyone who phoned up about it was told keepers get too much protection. Wishart and BFDJ were on the panel that night. I remember him doing the same to Artur Boric. A sneaky git.

The pub at the station, bookies next door,is a must. Nice wee Chinese next to it too for a wee soak-up on the train home.

Also a very good beer garden in a Wetherspoons-Bath Rd?- before hitting the hotspots.

A wee tip when you are watching youtube videos (you might already know it)

Pause the video a few seconds before the incident, and then tap your wee arrow that points to the right and your video will step forward a few frames at a time.

  16. Greenside,

That clip further proves McCullouch goes over the ball with his right foot and is a red and has been a red for a long time now.

Actually I am from a later generation and only started watching Celtic in the grim days of the early ’90’s!

But then I was brought up in Sunderland with regular trips to Roker Park where the football at times could be summed up as kick and rush with balls being launched as far and as high up the park as possible! It was pretty grim viewing and add in a biting and breezy sea breeze from the north sea and you start the get the picture! It’s hard work being a Sunderland fan let me tell you! :-)

My Dad was born in Newcastle but moved to Scotland as a teenager and lived in a street just off Gorgie road and would regularly go the Hearts v Celtic games, but only to watch Celtic. This was in the late mid to late ’60’s. He said he only ever bothered going to Tynecastle when Celtic were playing.

I was born in Scotland but my family moved to Sunderland when I was 2 and I lived there until May 1989. I have very enjoyable memories of watching my first Scottish Cup final on television!

Now when my Dad lived in Newcastle he was a regular at St James Park with his Dad but was the type of person who had no problem taking his sons to see Sunderland, even though he favoured Newcastle.

When we moved to Scotland my brother and I asked my dad what team would we be best to support as we were keen to continue going to football matches regularly but clearly travelling to Sunderland every other week would have been a hardship. Now all my Dad’s side of the family are, well not to put too fine a point on it, Huns. Huns without their bus fare but Huns never the less.

Anyway my Dad’s answer in an instant was, Celtic. He followed up by saying they play the best football, they have the best fans and the best atmosphere and that they are a “special club”. Now my Dad had only ever watched Celtic at Tynecastle back in the late 60’s but his answer was immediate. It’s one of the things I regularly thank him for and he started to come to a lot of games with me and my brother, home, away and even a couple of trips to Europe. He lives in Somerset now but gets up every now and again for a game.

It took me a couple of years to get to a game, I had to wait until my dad felt I was old enough to travel to Glasgow on a supporters bus with my brother and my first game was a European tie against Germinal Ekeren. So the first few years of supporting Celtic was hard going but very enjoyable. I actually missed the ’95 cup final as I was in Somerset for a couple of years but managed to watch all the games and highlights and my brother would send regular letters with his match reports of games and I was at the Meadowbank thistle cup game in the early rounds. The first game I was at when Celtic won a trophy was the 1997 Coca Cola cup final. Vivid memories of Big Kev from the Sunderland Celtic bus regaling us with the “always Coca Cola” ad music on the way back to Sunderland. Also vivid memories of him calling me and my house mate Gregg the night before the game to tell us we had tickets! I was at uni in Sunderland from 1996-1999 but didn’t miss many home games in that 3 year period.

But the football we played under TB was a joy to behold. Football being played the way it should be.

If you’re not romanticising then you have a low tolerance to shite(:-)

The Celtic team that TB managed in our Hampden season was very mediocre.

The teams that lost to Falkirk at Ayebrokes in the Scottish cup semi , and to Raith Rovers in the LCF, were Lilly livered.

Yes there were some exceptions within the sides.

McStay and Boyd spring to mind, but the overall teams broke my heart.

Tony is not a relative, but an old school mate from Knightswood. He runs the station, and is a very good Celtic man. The Station bar and Chinese are good :)
