If you are my generation, you will still wince at the prospect of a visit to Pittodrie. Despite a calamitous 2025, Aberdeen managed to beat Celtic in May’s Scottish Cup Final, so even younger fans are entitled to be cautious ahead of tonight.
That sentiment will not be understood by Aberdeen fans. After a resounding 6-2 win over Livingston 10 days ago, they crashed to earth at Rugby Park on Saturday, losing 3-0 to Kilmarnock, with club captain Graeme Shinnie shown a red card. By any measure, they are a team in crisis.
Like Martin O’Neill, their boss Peter Leven has the role on an interim basis, his third such stint. Unlike O’Neill, Leven does not expect to remain in charge until the end of the season. His colourful director of football, Lutz Pfannenstiel, hopes to make a permanent appointment soon. That state of flux contrasts with the stability Martin offers Celtic.
Last night’s win for St Mirren was welcome – to a point. The result can only be enjoyed if Celtic take all three points tonight. Martin O’Neill has set Celtic on an exceptional run of form, but no team in this league race can be confident of winning any game.

the british league cup, won with the first Quinn hat-trick
Final 17 June 1902 Celtic Scotland 3–2 (a.e.t.) Scotland Rangers Quinn Report Hamilton Speedie Cathkin Park (I), Glasgow Attendance: 10,000[3] Referee: J. Hay
*finlay speedie, used to drink in a pub in Dumbarton called the “macs bar” it was well known as a Dumbarton supporters pub, allegedly he would regale the punters on his games against us, one in particular where he did the Mighty Jimmy Quinn, however Jimmy got up and walked away, seemingly the mitb when admonishing him told him that the next time “tae dae it right”, or else he would have no choice but to send him off, I did say seemingly as it might have been just a procurement tae get more drink.

I don’t know but my money’s on the latter…
Seems like i struck a nerve. #Ouch
Auldheid / Bhoys Town
Agree with you both if that is possible ?
Sadly we will implode before it gets better in my view. These parasite blogs and opinion forming nonentities with zero skin in the game and absolutely zero plan as to how to achieve anything will continue to destroy the success we have achieved. Until we fall behind our traditional rivals again.
Clash City Bhoy
Sadly there is zero value / return in any youth academy as we have seen this over the past decade. We habitually lose any home grown talent to the EPL or even Championship for modest return.
Re Europe and lack of ambition. We have a glass ceiling and an unattractive domestic environment vs Portugal and Holland for instance. I agree we should be more ambitious however the challenge is any marginal gain in Europe could cost well in excess of current spend and offer no guarantees.
We appointed the wrong manager and gave him full control and he totally ruined a really strong base to the point of failing to qualify against a team with 10% of our player value. His narrative of blaming the board for lack of support is sadly down to his own self interest. I would wager any of us could have navigated that tie and got us through. Sadly the largest share holder and his manager are equally to blame for this past years efforts.
Gassama was diving before the challenge came in. But defender got on wrong side. Killie player booked for trying to head a ball v raskin – light weight compared to tackles we see week in week out out on Celtic players. This ref does nothing for us. We knew the fix was on and it’ll get worse
Why are people surprised at what’s happening at ibrox? Since the meeting at the SFA they’ve been getting decision after decision.
Until we remove these rangers supporting referees nothing is changing.
Dickinson is a cheat & he should be nowhere near these games.
Going back to Craig Levein to others calling them out & here we are again still talking about referees in this country.
This needs addressed because the decisions they are making are costing clubs millions & it’s all in favour of the new Rangers.
Scottish football is corrupt to the core, anyone but Celtic.
Granted we messed up but this talk about referees has been going on for years, everyone can’t all be wrong.
Kilmarnock won’t be easy in 11 days time at rugby park. 10 men more than competing st Ibrox tonight. Huge improvement vs previous version.
Why would the Scottish fitba authorities resist implementing a policy where a ref who had grown up with or maintained an allegiance to any particular club or team was not allowed to referee ties involving that club ?
You know, like they do in the proper fitba associations of the world like Engerland and France.
It seems a pretty innocuous rule to introduce in the interests of fair play.
And why don’t our fearless suits complain or campaign on that point?
That ‘penalty’ has really helped these sdratsab.
spot on burnley
Killie attack…diomande goes down. (cheat).free kick you know who.
10 men Killie causing problems. They are no gimmie for us
Huns are seriously rank!
Two good chances Killie,but….
We appointed ‘the wrong manager’ who took us to within minutes of the CL last 16.
After some repute-enhancing performances in that pleasing run.
Only to be publicly badmouthed by an egomaniacal authoritarian using the club as a play toy.
He then sanctioned a terminally wrong rube of a manager who torpedoed team fluency and morale and turned us into a national laughing stock over the period of 33 days.
The original /wrong manager’ is now with a new club where his team’s record is being hailed a revelatory.
why are jambos called jambos-
i been offloading about the season to a friend from home then he do ask ‘why are jambos called jambos-‘
embdy know?
Just seen this, wow
James Tavernier has now scored 199 penalties for Rangers
Celtic have been awarded 79 in our full history
araujo, schillaci, caravan of love, calmac, scales,

Hearts = jam tarts = jambos
Comes from old nickname, ‘Jam Tarts’?

PS: The half-time Hun ad for a company called ‘Suited & Booted’ (a firm offering dignified attire for timewarp has-beens) is a work of peak parody; I almost choked on my cornflakes watching it !!
EK Bhoy / Bashi
The Huns were so confident that game would be postponed that they managed to arrange a Glasgow Cup tie to be played at Ibrox on the same afternoon if my memory is correct.

Re Youth Development
I believe we can make a step change in 3 ways
1. Set up a tie with a League 1 / 2 team in England and give young players a more competitive environment both on and off the park. Playing at Burton away will develop.players a lot more than Bonnyrigg.
2. Review & learn from the guys we miss out on, and then ” hold people to acvount” – why did our scouts not see Lennon Miller or why did we pass up on Hickey / Robertson. There needs to be accountability and learning from errors.
3. Money – this is always contentious, but not everyone in the first team earns the same, so why not do similar for youth players and if there is an exceptional talent find a way to bridge the gap. I know of one current international who left us because we offerred ” youth wages”. If we had recognised his exceptional talent and paid him bottom of the first team structure he would have stayed. That won’t always work but even a 30% success rate gets you a very good player.
AULDHEID @ 6.07
PMFJI – Yes, they used a broad brush on fan media as opposed to singling out certain MSM like they do with the national broadcaster, on occasions.
The infamous statement in summer you’ll recall, was contrite for one or two things, one of them was communications with supporters. Celtic Social Media were mentioned in the statement, supporter meetings amounted to one, then none. The CSA ( the group that get away tickets ) joined the Collective, but the club has done nothing to address the problems and have refused any meetings
They subsequently banned the Green Brigade, and banned Celtic Social Media, ( that’ll fix it ) and won’t reply to the Celtic Collective or the fringe issue of the Green Brigade.
How can dialogue progress in the hope that the natural stay aways, leave earlies, never mind boycotting can be addressed. There is it seems willingness to talk at Celtic, but not from those in power?
As you know better than most, there are different opinions within the Collective the same as there are throughout the stadium, the main goal is common though, – a better run Celtic
Was it really the ‘not one penny more’ campaign by the Collective or the ‘ not one penny at all ‘ by the Board, that has seen things deteriorate to calls for boycotting?
Hope you’re good.
B
Obviously would have been great to get three points up in Aberdeen, if we had won the game of course. Leaves us with a wee run of three home games, one won, one against Dundee (which in the way of things, now looks like a very attractive Cup Fixture) and then against Livingstone next Wednesday. Might be just what we need, and as An Dun pointed out, we might have players back and/or bedded in by the time we make the trip North. Cannot see how in any way, shape or form, a Bhoycott in the middle of this run has any logic or justification, outwith some kind of misplaced virtue signalling. Thankfully nobody ever put a steering committee in charge of the Clapham Omnibus……..or the No. 64 Tram tae Auchenshuggle…for that matter
