O’Neill stability contrasts with Aberdeen flux

288

If you are my generation, you will still wince at the prospect of a visit to Pittodrie.  Despite a calamitous 2025, Aberdeen managed to beat Celtic in May’s Scottish Cup Final, so even younger fans are entitled to be cautious ahead of tonight.

That sentiment will not be understood by Aberdeen fans.  After a resounding 6-2 win over Livingston 10 days ago, they crashed to earth at Rugby Park on Saturday, losing 3-0 to Kilmarnock, with club captain Graeme Shinnie shown a red card.  By any measure, they are a team in crisis.

Like Martin O’Neill, their boss Peter Leven has the role on an interim basis, his third such stint.  Unlike O’Neill, Leven does not expect to remain in charge until the end of the season.  His colourful director of football, Lutz Pfannenstiel, hopes to make a permanent appointment soon.  That state of flux contrasts with the stability Martin offers Celtic.

Last night’s win for St Mirren was welcome – to a point.  The result can only be enjoyed if Celtic take all three points tonight.  Martin O’Neill has set Celtic on an exceptional run of form, but no team in this league race can be confident of winning any game.

  1. Killie played chopped down in front of ref. No foul. Killie player through on goal and pulled back. Screaming for foul. Would have been a red for tab as he was last man. No replay shown here!!

Dickinson ignoring ah foul on killie player should have seen Tavernier get sent aff no VAR intervention Huns go up the park 2-0.

    Just seen this, wow

James Tavernier has now scored 199 penalties for Rangers

Celtic have been awarded 79 in our full history”

That is so obviously not true that I am assuming I am missing the joke .

We’re way too young to remember, but trams didn’t turn as they couldn’t. When you reached the terminus you just flipped the back of the seats, for heading back into Paradise, the driver changed ends.

B78 – “Sadly we will implode before it gets better in my view. These parasite blogs and opinion forming nonentities with zero skin in the game”.

Agree with the former, but not the latter. They have plenty skin in the game – negativity is good for business.

Unfortunately it’s a reflexive process/self perpetuating cycle whereby they have an incentive to keep going until we implode.

  9. Rangers improved when Naderi and Rommens came on. They both look dangerous. Against 10 men and a favourable ref right enough.

  10. Pep McCann discovering that wittering about coaching mastery is easier on a studio couch than it is on the touchline.

Compare the decision not to award Killie a foul when forward impeded by Hun defender, against how quickly Auston was red carded is very telling.

You are a living, breathing monument to the very bigotry you claim to combat.

Your ‘activism’ is a tired script: shouting racist in poorly-spelled screeds, mistaking volume for virtue. You are not righteous, you are a performatve hypocrite.

A box-ticker wearing morality like those cheap suits you own, tailored solely for your own sense of superiority.

    Your entire stance isn’t a cause; it’s a costume.

And the only thing it reveals is your staggering lack of self-awareness.

So put up or shut up.

Would need to visit the Riverside Museum to check and see if that was at all possible. Sound like an urban myth to me, but I’m not from Glasgow masel. Would have thought they would turn around at the Terminus. Then again could work if the Tram was heading towards Parkhead, before ye know it ye’re sitting in the back seats…..

That’s why they have driving positions at either end of the tram. They just faced the other way

  17. Seems the “Not one Penny More” campaign has escalated to a call for boycott of this weekends cup tie…will it help…It cannae hurt. And before you all pile on and ask about harm to the team, ask yourselves about what our so called temporary custodians harm, to the self same team, has been.

  18. Pep’s interview is remarkable for his outspoken critique of ongoing genocide and human rights violations but also for the journalists’ apparent inability to understand the concept of a person having morals, a conscience and sense of humanity. Still, the Journos scratch their heads….

After the completion of the league phase and before the start of the knockout phase, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registrations must be completed by 5 February 2026 (24:00 CET) at the latest.

David Dickinson should not be allowed anywhere near Rangers games. Hes a cheating 🍊 bast*rd & digs the Huns out of holes every game.

Tavernier, already on a yellow, should’ve been sent off before Huns go 2-0 up. He pulls down Killie player through on goal. Same as Trusty.

  22. Quad…it’s not an inability…it’s towing the party line. All political parties are guilty of downplaying the truth. Israel now agrees that that there were 70,000 deaths due to their indiscriminate bombing of men, women and children…but that’s only based on recovered bodies…so I guess where international politics is concerned it’s an acceptable number…makes me despair of humanity
