O’Neills’ achievements

888

Delighted for Martin O’Neill on taking Ireland into the last 16 of the Euros. Since his salad days ended at Celtic, Martin’s had more downs than ups as a manager. I felt the game had moved on from him, even during his five years at Celtic, the game tactically moved away from him, but he’s one of a number of managers of small nations who have overachieved.

I’m not buying Roy Keane’s tears, though. Reaching the last 16 of the Euros is a great achievement, but he disparaged Mick McCarthy’s achievement with Ireland in going out of the 2002 World Cup in the last 16 to Spain on penalties.  Maybe it’s time for some humility from Roy.

If anything, Michael O’Neill’s achievements with the north has been even greater. Michael was mentioned as a possible Celtic manager before Brendan’s appointment, but the point was made to me, whatever he achieved in qualifying, he could be embarrassed in all three Euros games. Now he needs to beat Wales for a place in the quarter finals.

The group stages have been a delight. Some big tactical lessons for underdogs, and for teams who face 10 men behind the ball every week. If you don’t make defensive mistakes you can win any game, possession and territorial advantage is a mirage of influence.

This is splitting every party to some degree except UKIP.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland this morning issued a number of questions that will need to be addressed. Number 12 is:

    12. How will the UK Parliament pass the necessary legislation to facilitate a departure from the EU, when the majority of MPs seem to favour staying in the EU?

To enact the legislation, many MPs will have to vote against their instincts and/or majority views of their constituents.

Unlikely alliances may be formed and these may not be to the liking of Labour and Conservatives.

  2. is it Tom Watsons Labour the left follows this morning?

My ex labour and unionist mp!

Truly sad day for the left

Emdi think it will force them into listening to people as currently they still think Jim murphy had the ear o the people

blame the Nationalists is easy, all it highlights is how impotent as a collective movement the labour party is.They have become immersed in the free market bollox, individualism guised as aspiration, its polluted through its core union vote.

The left lost the working class in England.

it didnae help Jezza tryin convince everyone he was for something he wasnt really.

If the MPs pass a no-confidence vote, they might as well set up SDP2.

The membership will have them by the balls. The conference will be a bloodbath.

    Watson again?

Is the whole of The Labour Movement to be crucified due to the antics of one drunken former MP?

Is every Moslem responsible for the atrocities that are proclaimed in The Name of Islam?

    Of course not.

Bloody hell, big fella. You have better arguments than a nonentity in your armoury.

What a gift this would all be to a Labour party which if it wasn’t riven by division, uncertainty and no leadership, a call for a general election to stop just over 300 Conservative MP’s elect the next prime minister

    KILL ULTRA.

A few weeks ago you said something to him about “moving your intercontinental ballistic missile from the Gold Coast to Edinburgh”.

He said he hadn’t a clue what that was about and asked you what Edinburgh had to do with anything.

You then admitted to him that you had assumed he was “another poster who used to be a regular but had flounced about a year ago.” You even said, “I apologise if I got that wrong.”

Despite that apology, you repeated the allegation to the same poster about a week later.

Look. I have no interest in engaging in a protracted discussion over this. You asked me to name one. I just did.

You took exception to my posting a negative comment about the level of political debate. Sarcasm on CQN? Never catch on.

Do your worst mate. I’m moving on.

Labour MPs submit motion of no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn

    ——————————————————————————————

What is it about political parties, especially the British Labour Party, losing touch with its traditional supporters, don’t eejits like Margaret Hodge understand?

For years she and her ilk have held the voters in utter contempt whilst they have greased their own palms and lived in relative comfort and security whilst millions subsist on zero-hours contracts, national minimum wages poverty and many are forced to pay up to 60% of their meagre earnings over to exploitative landlords who are creaming it in much the same way as the political elite who run this country do.

This referendum wasn’t just about the EU. It was about the mainstream super rich establishment and corrupt bankers telling the poor what’s good for them and why we have to retain the status quo. Usually they get away with it but this time they didn’t and they got a good kicking. Well, fan-dabby-dozy as far as I’m concerned. Well done the poor says I.

Now all we need to do is resurrect the labour and trade union movement to protect and advance workers rights. It’s not the European Union that will protect workers rights, it’s Trades Unions….for all their faults and they have many.

Oh yes, let’s ditch Jeremy Corbyn says Ms. Hodge and then what? ……replace him with another new labour automaton like Chukka Umunna perhaps??? That would be the final nail in the coffin of the British Labour Party.

Aye. Interesting that KILL ULTRA moved on at the same time as another poster who KITALBA outed.

    Coincidence?

    Mibbe.

Away and discuss it wi the imaginary CQNers who contacted you about it and don’t bother me in future.

I’m sure yer a smashing fella in the flesh and all that but I really canny be arsed trying to have twenty different discussions wi the same person at the one time,or vice-versa.

Live long and happily,Tom. I hope to do the same.

  10. AS some one who spent four years at a Belgian university, I am saddened that we are no longer part of the EU. However I am more deeply saddened by some of the pro and contra arguments on here. Some of them have been lacking in charity.

I have a suggestion. Why do we not get back to things Celtic, and especially to be glad that our young Celtic supporter KT has signed on for another five years.? Oh, and before all the “he’ll be gone in two years to make money for PL ” types start replying, I would just say, let us enjoy his immense talent while we can.
