‘Only Newco option is SPL’ utter rubbish

770

Scottish Premier League chief executive, Neil Doncaster, yesterday told the BBC that no provision existed for a liquidated SPL club to reconvene as a Newco FC at the bottom of the Scottish Football League (reported at 1821 on their crisis timeline).

This is being grossly misreported to suggest that the only opportunity for a Rangers Newco to phoenix is to slip straight back into the SPL – completely and utterly untrue.

There is also no provision for a Newco FC to slip into the SPL.  Newco FC would be able to apply for membership to the Scottish Football League (where they would unquestionably be accepted) or the Scottish Premier League.

The default position when a club goes out of business in the Scottish Premier League is that the club that finishes bottom of the league at the end of the season escapes relegation.  As things stand, Dunfermline would remain an SPL club and Ross County would be promoted.

No moral, legal or football administrative argument has been made to suggest that Dunfermline will be relegated to allow a new club entry into the league.  None whatsoever.  Dunfermline Athletic will remain a SPL club if Rangers are liquidated.

The various parties seeking to phoenix Rangers would get the lawyers onto securing a stadium, scouting some part-timers, buying a ticketing system, applying for entry into the Scottish Football League and finding cash to employ stadium stewarding. This could take weeks but is more likely to take months or even years.

Football needs to get used to this idea.

Neil Doncaster did not suggest a Newco FC applying for entry into the SPL had any primacy over an application to the SFL.  In fact, an application to the SFL would not have to overcome the unfortunate objections of Dunfermline Athletic  – who pay their BBC licence fee and are worthy of due respect.

  1. “For all that, the SPL won’t – can’t – turn its collective back on the new Rangers because it cannot turn away the business. The Ibrox following – 50,000 paying customers a home game – won’t slice their loyalties and follow on elsewhere.”

Could not sleep thinking about all this, wake up to find James Forrest has started a thread which is compatible with the thoughts I now have.

WHAT IF….. this was D Murray’s plan all along and Wnyte is just a paid pawn in his game.

WHAT IF…..other pawns have been placed at various locations like written press, radio and tv and possibly set up web sites to “help along” the plan

WHAT IF…. people like ex directors all were given thier script and told exactly when to enter the play

WHAT IF….. he (murray) knew r*angers were in too deep and he had to plot something like this, accepting that to suffer some pain (exclussion from Europe for 3 seasons and lose of club history) would be better that paying millions to Hector

WHAT IF….. his ONLY gamble is that his horrid team is accepted straight back into the SPl, and that gamble may even have had the way straightened before the plan is put into play.

I am not saying I am right (God knows I hope I am wrong) but some things need to be asked…

Why the silence from Murray? Why no proper fact finding from the media on Whyte prior to the takeover? Why now did D Adam whistleblow? Why now has D King said liquidation is inevitable? Why the delay from the administrators in laying off of players?

My feeling is that, if this is all of Murrays making then we can only hope that the SPL/SFA do the fair and propper thing but how confident of that are you/

I spotted that too. I’m not sure creditors practise doublethink where money (large amounts or small) is involved.

newco Rangers fans at Ibrox singing follow follow every other minute would be a dagger in the heart of every creditor were it suggested that newco Rangers is somehow completely separate from the old company.

Having kept his counsel for such a long time, Murray’s response to King was absurdly fast (although, admittedly, King did threaten to sue him).

My head is reeling with all this.

  9. However Rangers survive or are reinvented no one can escape a permanent and powerful change of mind about them, as these events are burned onto our souls – and it will be deeper for supporters, the doubts eating always eating away.

I know I’m nieve, but for me the unashamed lack of integrity that permeates every facet of this Rangers debacle leaves me staggered.

I still can’t get ovet the fact that they used EBTs at all, even if they are judged legal and without incurring penalty from HMRC. The sheer immorality of offering a scheme that allowed some of the best paid people in Scotland by a long way to avoid tax to such an overwhelming degree has completely passed them by. I have no problem with “tax efficiency” schemes etc but Rangers appear to have used EBTs with indiscriminate depth and to such a degree that crosses the line and elicits public disgust.

I am no fan of the Rangers players or of high salaries in football but the cowardice of the the administrators and the lack of integrity of what’s left of the custodians of Rangers is reflected in the present attempts either to blackmail or scapegoat the players. Once agin without any self awareness or criticism their actions are beyond the pale.

    .

  10. It would appear that everyone involved in the demise of Rangers are running scared of acting decisively and upsetting the Rangers supporters, I hope they continue in this vein as it’s guaranteed to seal their demise sooner rather than later.

  12. Morning all from gay Paree, lovely sunny morning (10C max)

Like a lot of folk at the moment, my head is buzzing.

There is so much going on “concurrently” and still much to come.

My earliest memory of rANGERs dates back to to 1963, when I must have been nine. The Saurday cup final finished 1-1, and I remember thinking we had done well and we had every chance in the replay. The Auld Yins round about me tried to prepare me for the inevitable: “we’ll no’ be allowed a second chance – Warton will see to that.”

Celtic lost 3-0 and it was painful for me, as was the realization that the old bhoys knew something I didn’t.

Throughout the years since there has been pleasure and pain. That is part and parcel of being a fitba fan. However, a lot of the pain has been mixed with incomprehension and suspicion.

This morning I woke up with the thought:

“rANGERs could have played their last game”.

That, my friends, along with the knowledge that the suspicions were fully justified is a pleasure that will last a very long time.

Morning folks, I am a long time reader but only an occasional contributer, but it seems to me that not too many folk are discussing the most important word in Paul Murray’s declaration the he is interested in buying them.

He says he will make a “conditional” offer to buy the club. Seems to me, as a lot of people have alluded to in various ways but not by focussing on the CONDITIONAL word, that the main condition he would want to try to put on any offer would be “I’m no payin’ fur the Big Tax Case” at which point negotiations would come to an end ’cause that can’t be part of the deal and we will have either liquidation or the sale of the first team. :)

There is some overlap with the Queen’s Bench Division’s civil jurisdiction; however, certain matters are specifically assigned to the Chancery Division.

The principal business of the Chancery Division is:

    corporate and personal insolvency disputes;

  24. Pressure must be put on SFA / SPL to ensure that Rangers see out the current season. There is absolutely no reason that they cannot continue in administration until then. Reduced low cost squad, pay at the gate matches will easily deliver the income required to complete the stadium. If Ranger’s supporters are proved to be loyal they will turn up and pay at the gate to keep their club alive. Regan and Doncaster should be beating down the door of the administrators to ensure this outcome. Any situation that allows them to liquidate and see out the season, or failure to complete the fixtures will surely be the lack of leadership and management by this pair.

Following the revelation that Administrators could not come to agreement re player’s wage reductions; it has been confirmed that there is “no realistic possibility” that the club could possibly play in the lucrative European club competitions next season, thus denying the club a vital revenue source. March 31st is the deadline by which the club must come out of administration to be eligible to play in Europe next season and administrator Paul Clark have stated: “This is simply not going to happen.”

The club with the most league titles in world football (54) now faces the very realistic possibility that they may not be able to finish the season. With administrators seeking to cut costs by £1million stg per month; players wanted their wages deferred until the end of the season, but Clark said that that would not be feasible: “Postponing payments is not an answer for the club because eventually those payments will have to be made.”

Administrators were called in on February 14th after British tax authorities went to court to seek payment of an unpaid bill of £9 million stg built up since Chairman Craig Whyte took control at Ibrox in May. Rangers are also awaiting the verdict of a tax tribunal that could leave them with a bill of up to £75 million stg, according to Whyte.

The club’s crisis has reached such a stage that unless a new buyer is found to take over the club and the growing debt before the end of the Scottish club season, the Gers will have to cease to trade as a business.

I reckon that there could be a wee bit of trouble after ibroke in a couple of weeks. I reckon that it could easily occur regardless of whether we win lose or draw or if the fans are gloating or otherwise. That aside I would love to be one of the fans inside ibroke!!

I do wonder if it would be better to allow only huns in at ibroke and only tims at paradise. (Of course we are not sure that they will last that long.) but if we let 7,000 of them into CP for their last game ever we can expect a little bit of stadium damage, after all they cannot be punished and have nothing to lose (no pun intended)

Anyway, before they disappear into blue abyss, I reckon we still owe them for the time when Murray locked us out of ibrox, (btw god bless john Collins and the guy with airplane banner) and now seems a fitting time and opportunity to repay that gesture.
