‘Only Newco option is SPL’ utter rubbish

770

Scottish Premier League chief executive, Neil Doncaster, yesterday told the BBC that no provision existed for a liquidated SPL club to reconvene as a Newco FC at the bottom of the Scottish Football League (reported at 1821 on their crisis timeline).

This is being grossly misreported to suggest that the only opportunity for a Rangers Newco to phoenix is to slip straight back into the SPL – completely and utterly untrue.

There is also no provision for a Newco FC to slip into the SPL.  Newco FC would be able to apply for membership to the Scottish Football League (where they would unquestionably be accepted) or the Scottish Premier League.

The default position when a club goes out of business in the Scottish Premier League is that the club that finishes bottom of the league at the end of the season escapes relegation.  As things stand, Dunfermline would remain an SPL club and Ross County would be promoted.

No moral, legal or football administrative argument has been made to suggest that Dunfermline will be relegated to allow a new club entry into the league.  None whatsoever.  Dunfermline Athletic will remain a SPL club if Rangers are liquidated.

The various parties seeking to phoenix Rangers would get the lawyers onto securing a stadium, scouting some part-timers, buying a ticketing system, applying for entry into the Scottish Football League and finding cash to employ stadium stewarding. This could take weeks but is more likely to take months or even years.

Football needs to get used to this idea.

Neil Doncaster did not suggest a Newco FC applying for entry into the SPL had any primacy over an application to the SFL.  In fact, an application to the SFL would not have to overcome the unfortunate objections of Dunfermline Athletic  – who pay their BBC licence fee and are worthy of due respect.

I’m sure that’s what Roddy would like to happen but as HMRC didn’t “settle” when Murray was in charge, its hard to see how they would settle now.

Which case is this relating to? The big case (£49m odd from EBTs) or non payment of PAYE/NI (£9m since May).

Good luck to them but there ain’t a snowballs chance that HMRC will just allow either to be written off or settled for anything less than full payment, at least for PAYE/NI money. Otherwise nothing to stop any other club (or business) using HMRC just like a bank and running up savings of £10m a year and then asking for time to pay it back or to pay back a reduced amount.

They’d rather lose all that money than open the floodgates for others to play the same game.

Travelling Celtic fans should make it clear that if the SPL clubs allow the debt free huns newco to parachute back into the SPL that we will indefinitely boycott the away games against every club who votes in their favour.

We should not reward any club who places the importance of the tainted hun pound before the integrity of the league.

Rangers are set to launch a raid for Motherwell midfielder Stpehen Jennings as soon as their transfer embargo is lifted.

The SPL giants will have to rebuild their squad in the summer following the financial woes that are currently tearing the club apart.

The Ibrox club is expecting to lose up to six players next week as some of the squad have failed to agree pay cuts with the club’s administrators.

The cash-strapped SPL side are hoping to have their transfer embargo lifted sometime in April and will immediately move for the Motherwell star, who moved to Scotland from Tranmere in 2002.

    Good point.

What Celtic should do (assuming the game goes ahead) is to ask for an excessive payment up-front (not kidding) to cover the anticipated cost of the damage caused by the hun hordes. Any credit can be refunded to thems if their club still exists.

If the huns refuse to pay, no tickets for them and their allocation is placed on public sale.

  10. If a new Rangers was allowed to immediately reenter the SPL, they would likely be a greatly depleted force, due to no Europe, upfront payment of tax monies, depleted player squad and a possible points deduction by way of punishment. They would then run the very real risk of a natural relegation. (It may seem unthinkable but….)

    What then?

Does the SPL simply rejig it’s rules once more to prevent Rangers from going to the SFL?

I think for this reason alone immediate reentry for Rangers 2012 to the SPL is impossible.

Another day for the Adminimalstraters to do nothing.

To handle the superior bigots and their vile sectarian chanting at both home and away games. It is not practical for the police to be able to handle 30,000 arrests, so why not hand the power to the referees. When sectarian singing can be clearly heard, as in the first home game since their new found administrative status began. On hearing such sectarian law breaking bile, the ref blows the whistle and either awards the opposing team a goal or a penalty, this would serve as a yellow card warning to the crowd. If this is not sufficient and the chanting continues then the match is stopped just as if the floodlights had gone out and the result is 3-0 to the opposition. Instant crowd management, problem solved, peepil need to learn.

It all might be irrelevant now however if the adminimalstrators got round to doing their jobs.

I’m no financial wizard but if newco are parachuted into the SPL without serious penalty, I cant see Celtic agreeing to this.

Without Celtic, there is certainly no SPL!

Even timid wee mousies like Regan and Doncaster couldn’t argue that the huns supplanting us was fair do’s!

Conclusion: Worst case scenario is the huns to miss out on europe for 3 years, to have points penalties over the same period and for an independent inquiry led by a noble, highly esteemed citizen such as George Peat, Donald Findlay or Jim Farry (RIP) to report on past tainted titles!

Result: Easy 3 titles with attendant additional finances (potential CL money dwarfs any Sky entitlement). Excluding possible cup clashes, at least 12 crushing, consecutive victories over the new, considerably weaker huns

Best case scenario: huns no more and Celtic crowned champions of England circa 2015; champions of europe circa 2017 (8-7 in the final against Barca. What a game that was, sportingly played by the 2 best teams the world has ever seen)

not sure if this has been shared but a talented individual posted this on the RTC site :

So, in layman’s language, RFC is in intensive care, on a life support system, having suffered a massive heart attack; in addition the body is riddled with cancer, both legs have been amputated due to gangrene and sight in both eyes is gone.

He’s also got some signs of kidney failure but there’s no room to fit in a dialysis machine.

The two consultants, Duff & Defer, both seasoned surgeons, are reduced to palliative care, but have slipped a rather large bill into the hands of the closest relatives.

The (rather large) family have been summoned to the bedside, though only 3 or 4 have turned up.

The full milk bottles would have been piling up on the doorstep of the Big Hoose had it not been for the fact that the milkman’s not been paid for some time.

If RFC ever gets home, there is no chance of climbing the three flights of stairs to familiar surroundings; much loved godchildren Chick (who says he has a special devotion to St Mirren) & big James are crying their eyes out, demanding that some sort of golden Stannah Stairlift be installed to allow RFC to ascend back to the top floor.

The family GP, Dr Doncaster doesn’t really think the patient should even be discharged but the other night was heard saying “If it’s the dying man’s wish, he should be allowed home; we’ll find a way to get him back to where he belongs no matter what it takes”

As if that wasn’t enough, RFC is due in court shortly for sentencing on several minor demeanours, his passport has expired and he hasn’t any money to renew it, though he was still hoping for at least a fortnight in Europe towards the end of the summer.

Of the few relatives that have turned up, cousin Paul think RFC should be allowed home; he says he’s got some friends who will definitely help him (though he came alone and there are only 3 contacts on his phone list) and he’s waving a Blockbuster Video card saying he will take care of the costs.

Only dodgy Uncle Dave seems to have accepted the inevitable – that the life support machine will have to be turned off – but no one is listening to him

  31. Since ‘The Murray Years’ started, how much have they had pumped into them/acquired from external resources, not including Champions League/enhanced sponsorship and gate money?

    ENIC/Joe Lewis: £40m

    Dave King: £20m

    MIH write-down: £51m

    NTL partnership: £20-31m ???

    IR/HMRC: £45m (based on £48m EBT usage)

IR/HMRC: £3.5m (based on £4m Discounted Share Option scam scheme)

    Any others?

Well David Murray has always claimed he’d put ‘over £100m of his own money’ into Rangers – shall we count any of that, and is he including the £51m write-down?

    Ticketus advance(s?): £25m

    non-payment of VAT/NIC/PAYE: £9m

So any others I’m not aware of? I ask, because it’s really the only topic of conversation at work today and I’m trying to convince the Utd fans in the office that they’ve been propped up, from 1989 to today, to the tune of around £200m of external revenues. So far, above, I have well in excess of that amount.

We’re trying to calculate what additional revenue streams have been made available to them on the back of this money and how much skew this has applied to the Premier Division/SPL.

    I have:

    Champions League money: ~£60m

    Enhanced sponsorship: £50-100m

    Enhanced gate revenues: £5-10-15-20-50-100m?????

So, I think we can safely say that they’ve had access to, at the very least, £200m of money they should otherwise not have had access to, but also another £200m possibly on top of that.

    The point of this?

A NewCo will be denied all of these revenue streams. There will be no Joe Lewis or David King. There will be no MIH write-down of debt. There will be no football tv bubble (NTL deal) to milk. And you can be damned sure that HMRC will be checking every single ‘i’ is dotted, every ‘t’ is crossed, every comma and full stop is in it’s correct place.

What shape or form will a NewCo take? In the first instance, I think we have to assume the orcs will initially come out from Moria and the Goblin Gate in support of the new club. Heck, it really will be like a new day has dawned for them – it’ll appear that they are now free of the corruption of Minty and Whyte.

Slowly though, they’ll realise that Minty’s methods, although ultimately self-defeating and utterly destructive, were in actual fact, highly effective in grabbing more silverware than they otherwise would have (think Motherwell and Hearts brief flirtations with Scottish Cup finals over the years – you get the picture).

Slowly, they’ll slink back to their holes, rarely to be seen. And ever more slowly, their children and even they, will turn up elsewhere (once more, think Motherwell and Hearts brief flirtations with Scottish Cup finals over the years).

And slowly, although how slow/quick this occurs remains a matter of conjecture, they’ll return (progress?) to the early 1980s.

And now that it comes to it, we have to ask ourselves: what can Rangers bring to the table that can make them so indispensable to the SPL?

I think the answer lies somewhere between ‘nothing’ and ‘very little’.
