‘Only Newco option is SPL’ utter rubbish

770

Scottish Premier League chief executive, Neil Doncaster, yesterday told the BBC that no provision existed for a liquidated SPL club to reconvene as a Newco FC at the bottom of the Scottish Football League (reported at 1821 on their crisis timeline).

This is being grossly misreported to suggest that the only opportunity for a Rangers Newco to phoenix is to slip straight back into the SPL – completely and utterly untrue.

There is also no provision for a Newco FC to slip into the SPL.  Newco FC would be able to apply for membership to the Scottish Football League (where they would unquestionably be accepted) or the Scottish Premier League.

The default position when a club goes out of business in the Scottish Premier League is that the club that finishes bottom of the league at the end of the season escapes relegation.  As things stand, Dunfermline would remain an SPL club and Ross County would be promoted.

No moral, legal or football administrative argument has been made to suggest that Dunfermline will be relegated to allow a new club entry into the league.  None whatsoever.  Dunfermline Athletic will remain a SPL club if Rangers are liquidated.

The various parties seeking to phoenix Rangers would get the lawyers onto securing a stadium, scouting some part-timers, buying a ticketing system, applying for entry into the Scottish Football League and finding cash to employ stadium stewarding. This could take weeks but is more likely to take months or even years.

Football needs to get used to this idea.

Neil Doncaster did not suggest a Newco FC applying for entry into the SPL had any primacy over an application to the SFL.  In fact, an application to the SFL would not have to overcome the unfortunate objections of Dunfermline Athletic  – who pay their BBC licence fee and are worthy of due respect.

So, some 40 years after being the first team to be banned from defending a European trophy the year after winning it, we are now privileged to witness the Huns set another record – the earliest exit from European football.

Mo Chara i agree and disagree – I think that Lubo in his prime was probably as good as Messi. Listen to what Henri and other French players of that generation say about Lubo, they hold him in awe as did we and rightly so. Oh that we could have signed him in his prime.

    The future is Whyte

    Written by Mr Luce

In July 2010 Rangers flew out to Australia for pre-season.  At the time we were ran by the Lloyds Banking Group, due to serious financial problems. We had won the title for the second time in a row, but the Champions League jackpot all went to the bank to clear some of our £31 million debt. Fan favourites like Novo and Boyd turned down new extensions, while Danny Wilson and Kevin Thomson left for a combined fee of £4 million. Burnley winger Chris Eagles turned us down because we couldn’t afford his £20,000 a week wage demands. The squad was very small and was in need of numbers. After the tour there were additions, James Beattie and Vladimir Weiss arrived and near the end of August the big money signing came in. £4 million was spent on Nikica Jelavic, it was a massive gamble considering most of the budget we were giving was spent on this player. However it was money well spent and Martin Bain did a great job getting Rapid Vienna to eventually sell him.

Rangers were doing well in the domestic and European fronts but there were still whispers about the future of the club. Stand in chairman Alister Johnson was looking for a new owner, and in November his plea looked to be granted. A 39 year old busninessman from Motherwell was looking to buy the club, and he was deadly serious. His name was Craig Whyte; relatively unknown, but he had a plan. The supposed plan would be to pledge in £25m in player investment and to improve Ibrox. It sounded very positive but would this happen?

In January the bank were in need of money from us again. We had no choice but to sell Kenny Miller – our top goalscorer- for a fee of £400,000. We tried and tried to get him to sign a new contract, however due to the bank we had to offer wage cuts and Kenny declined and declined.

Over the next few months, there were doubts and many articles about Whyte’s possible takeover. It was incredibly irrating for me and many other fans; we simply wanted to know if it was happening or not. Whyte attended games and that gave some signs. In April it looked like the takeover was indeed near, however it would not happen in that month.  Ot could have happened at the end of the month but the Royal Wedding delayed it, would you believe.

After over 5 months of speculation and waiting, it finally happened. I found out the news at a friends house and the place erupted with cheers when the news came. The 6th of May 2011 is the day we’ll never forget. After the takeover was complete, we won the league and said goodbye to Walter Smith. A perfect send off .

Ally McCoist is now the manager and Whyte has promised funds. The press have speculated a number of fees. A transfer budget of £10 million, £12 million and now £15 million have been mentioned. Who knows? So far we’ve spent £500,000 on Juanma Ortiz and we are bidding for Cuellar and Goodwillie.

Whyte has managed to secure McGregor, Whittaker and Davis’ long term futures. He is also trying to convince Bougherra to stay, even though he’s been crying out for a move to England. If we can add Bougherra to the 3 players mentioned, then the future is looking very good. They are vital players who have helped us to success over the last 3 years.

If Ally does indeed have £15 million then, my word, he could build us a squad that could dominate the league for several years. Even better is that we can build around guys like Davis, Naismith, Jelavic and a few others.

Another thing from Whyte that has impressed me is that he has his own men to work around. Bain and Johnston are now gone and Gordon Smith is here. A good ambassador for the club.

And of course he has done what Murray and Bain failed to do. Stand up to the media. We got the blame for a number of things and suffered several attacks from the media. They would have probably blamed Diouf if World War 3 ever occured. A quote from one of Whyte’s men was a cracker: “Don’t tell lies about us or we’ll tell the truth about you”

The future is bright, the future is Craig Whyte.

That would be the “wealthy huns” who cared about their club so much that they let Craig Whyte get it. Who were so invested in their club that they have been fighting him since day 1. Who think Rangers is so special they allowed the 15 point lead to be frittered away and then let the club sell Jelavic, without ponying up for a striker to replace him and keep the dream alive.

You mean those “wealthy huns” who allowed adminstration. Who have let it proceed for three weeks of sheer embarrassment and negative headlines. Who are allowing the name and commercial reputation of the club to be dragged through the gutter. Who were on hand to prevent uncertainty surrounding player sales. Who’s passion for Rangers has made them watch through three or four days of sheer torture as players scrambled for their salaries?

Those guys you mean? Well, I guess if there’s a billionaire out there with King Billy tattooed on his rear end we’re all going to look rather silly, aren’t we? And doubtless they have Messi lined up for the summer.
