Operation Get Lawwell Out

837

When Tony Mowbray was in charge of Celtic the club wrote to the SFA regarding the standard of refereeing in Scotland almost on a weekly basis.  The outcome of this correspondence was not constructive, if anything, some at the Association hardened their stance.

A lot has subsequently happened.

Yesterday’s Sunday Mail referred back to Celtic’s dialogue with the SFA during Mowbray’s tenure, which I found interesting.  Soon after, when a referee was found to have lied to Neil Lennon (and his supervisor), the association were vulnerable.  Wounds opened at that time which have not healed.

The ‘paper suggested Peter Lawwell is “Driven, obsessively controlling, politically statute, manipulative.  A master of the dark arts.  There’s nothing he won’t do to get Celtic what they want.  No-one he won’t attempt to control to get it”.

Quite a character assassination.  I wonder what they’re worried about?

We are also told that our chief exec has “An over-arching influence on every facet of the Scottish game. He could have had a crack at sorting it for everyone.  But no. That wouldn’t have sold any season tickets, would it?”

Those of you who bought a season ticket on the back of Peter Lawwell’s letter must feel the club went to extraordinary lengths to win your business.  The article shared the fantasy many football fans have that Peter Lawwell being on the SFA board means Peter Lawwell controls the SFA.  He doesn’t, but he is a formidable advocate of reform.

So what are they worried about?  From my perspective, pretty much everything.  The old ways were liquidated, we’re living in times with only one Super Power.  The old ways are gone and they are never coming back.

Calls for Peter Lawwell to resign from the SFA board because he “wouldn’t recognise the greater good” are laughable.  Those who interpret subtext will know this reads ‘Lawwell is an animated asker of difficult questions’.

What started five years ago with DVDs arriving at Hampden showing Robbie Keane yards onside has gotten a whole lot more serious, and personal, judging by the sustained attack on our CEO.  If you think this is about Celtic writing a letter about a referee decision a week ago you couldn’t be further from the truth.

Never try to manipulate a master of the dark arts.

This year’s CQN Golf Open will be held on Friday 24 July at Aberdour Golf Club. This is our 11th annual event and looks set to be a cracker once again. We shall be raising funds for one of our nominated charities and there will be a number of fundraising activities both on the day and in the weeks leading up to the event.

Please keep an eye open for details. Cost for the golf day is £80 including the meal at night. There are a limited number of night time places for non-golfers, cost £45.

To apply for a place, please contact cqnopen15@gmx.co.uk

And the real question is why do we fail so often against supposedly inferior sides when it comes to cup ties.

Suppose not. Personally, I don’t trust him one bit. In my opinion he is manipulative.

So do we think that Peter will be able to stick and change? i still get the feeling he wont ride this the whole way through. I still think that there is live in the orange dug yet. Sadly.

I was hoping that we could as a club hire a super lawyer and a beast of an attack dog in the PR world. So we could not only strongly argue our side, but also sue and win – when needed.

I would quite like to see an organisation that details who is who at the SFA.

I would then also like to see how Scotland is represented at UEFA and FIFA.

The appearance of Boyce last week was interesting though he is of Norn Irish organisation.

Other matter of interest was Column being quoted as saying he gave the award in the basis of advice from someone else yesterday. There must be protocols that state who makes the call on a decision and the referees ability to over rule them. What are they? Clearly Colums comments put Muir front and centre and excuse McLean further but what are the protocols?

the actions of the SFA have been clear and transparent in their impact on our club. Let no one question the intentions of our CEO before they question Campbell Ogilvie and Sandy Bryson et al.

Still keep up the pressure of friends that they must never seek to attend an SFA cup away game until its changed. We must use the Green pound wisely.

I could mention a few reasons, like the Ledley handball.

  16. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in supporting PL and the celtic board in any battle against the SFA. However we need to understand what that battle is and celtic should now be open and transparent with us. All these phoney wars and secret battles. No more.

No matter how celtic and celtic fans act they will be attacked. The country is absolutely corrupt.

The difficult thing for me to swallow though is that we KNOW that Peter was involved in the 5 way agreement.

So something doesn’t add up here.

If celtic want to unite us all they need to do is tell us what the battle is, what we are doing and what our goals are. Celtic fans are ready for the battle, ready for us to be called paranoid, to be ridiculed.

We know what the prize could be.

    Bring it on.

  17. Afternoon folks,

Don’t read the MSM, but I can hazard a guess that our CEO is getting it from Waddell? This guy is a Celtic hater. Very rarely does he have anyting positive to say about our club, but is always ready to put Celtic the boot in to us at every opportunity.

    Best ignored.

Did Celtic ever get an answer why Barry Robson was sent home from Scotland duty in 2012 when 4 Rangers players withdrew?

Remember this was in the week before Celtic were due to play them. Robson was fit and was raging he was sent home.

#SFAdontruleout expanding SPFL to 16 teams next season. I am not sure that they can do this without 3 seasons notice.

  24. I’m sure we played der Hun on a Friday in Glasgow Cup game at CP in 1969, about a month before the 4-0 cup final. Think Ferguson scored in a win for them, a very young King Kenny in Celtic line up. Anyone confirm ?

I have often aired my view on this here.

There is nothing mysterious about it.

All too often when faced with a physical, or overly physical side that is well organised, defending n depth an and most importantly up for it, all too often Celtic are found wanting.

    mullet and co,

As it happened, there was an ex linesman in Sharkey’s last Sunday, watching the Cup game.

He operated in the Tiny Wharton era.

I asked him what were a ref’s instructions to his linesmen pre match; I.e., with reference to when to wave his flag at an infringement, etc.

He said that one ref told him, ” You give opinions, I give decisions”.

Ogilvie could be next up to represent the British Isles as FIFA vp. Jim Boyce currently has that role.
