Operation Get Lawwell Out

837

When Tony Mowbray was in charge of Celtic the club wrote to the SFA regarding the standard of refereeing in Scotland almost on a weekly basis.  The outcome of this correspondence was not constructive, if anything, some at the Association hardened their stance.

A lot has subsequently happened.

Yesterday’s Sunday Mail referred back to Celtic’s dialogue with the SFA during Mowbray’s tenure, which I found interesting.  Soon after, when a referee was found to have lied to Neil Lennon (and his supervisor), the association were vulnerable.  Wounds opened at that time which have not healed.

The ‘paper suggested Peter Lawwell is “Driven, obsessively controlling, politically statute, manipulative.  A master of the dark arts.  There’s nothing he won’t do to get Celtic what they want.  No-one he won’t attempt to control to get it”.

Quite a character assassination.  I wonder what they’re worried about?

We are also told that our chief exec has “An over-arching influence on every facet of the Scottish game. He could have had a crack at sorting it for everyone.  But no. That wouldn’t have sold any season tickets, would it?”

Those of you who bought a season ticket on the back of Peter Lawwell’s letter must feel the club went to extraordinary lengths to win your business.  The article shared the fantasy many football fans have that Peter Lawwell being on the SFA board means Peter Lawwell controls the SFA.  He doesn’t, but he is a formidable advocate of reform.

So what are they worried about?  From my perspective, pretty much everything.  The old ways were liquidated, we’re living in times with only one Super Power.  The old ways are gone and they are never coming back.

Calls for Peter Lawwell to resign from the SFA board because he “wouldn’t recognise the greater good” are laughable.  Those who interpret subtext will know this reads ‘Lawwell is an animated asker of difficult questions’.

What started five years ago with DVDs arriving at Hampden showing Robbie Keane yards onside has gotten a whole lot more serious, and personal, judging by the sustained attack on our CEO.  If you think this is about Celtic writing a letter about a referee decision a week ago you couldn’t be further from the truth.

Never try to manipulate a master of the dark arts.

This year’s CQN Golf Open will be held on Friday 24 July at Aberdour Golf Club. This is our 11th annual event and looks set to be a cracker once again. We shall be raising funds for one of our nominated charities and there will be a number of fundraising activities both on the day and in the weeks leading up to the event.

Please keep an eye open for details. Cost for the golf day is £80 including the meal at night. There are a limited number of night time places for non-golfers, cost £45.

To apply for a place, please contact cqnopen15@gmx.co.uk

As far as I know CO is not standing for re-election, but he should not be allowed to just quietly “retire” if he is guilty of wrong doing over the issues raised by Res 12.

Celtic should not be party to any deals that allow him to disappear into the sunset with his pension and ahem, EBT.

Much as I’ve grown to hate this word, so often has it been used in reference to the going’s on at Skull Mountain we do need transparency on all of the outcomes of Res 12.

If at the end of the process we end up with a team in blue playing out of Ibrox in the top division and the same blazers in charge of the game, what will have changed? Not a lot.

How you doing? Genuine question – what is it about the SNP that you don’t like? Surely a working coalition would be best for all centre left. Is it economics?

I found the sectarian behaviour of the SNP in 1982 shocking. I don’t think they are progressive enough now. But i think virtually every other party is moving right and they are moving left, and the idea of sectarianism now is completely redundant within the SNP / independence movement.

I see the SNP as a gateway to a scottish parly where old school socialism stands a chance, Green politics also. Where Scottish Labour can reinvent itself as the dominant party again with credibility, serving trade union interests. There is part proportional representation in the scot parly so radical politics can hold the power in coalition

also. For me, that is Green Party.

A left wing Scottish labour and Green Party Government is my preferred future outcome. I’m voting SNP as a means to an end.

  21. The ramping up of anti Celtic in general, and anti PL in particular, propaganda from the laptop loyal is directly related to this week’s pending decision on whether the glib & shameless one is a fit and proper person. They are trying to position the story so that if the SFA say he’s not, its PL’s who is blocking him.

The phoney war they’ve started against PL is what they think will make it more likely for them to get the result they want.

Anyone who has followed Celtic knows that PL and Celtic do not get everything their own way. We (including the fans) still the subject of more cheating, bad calls, sectarian actions and legislation than any other club. If PL was fighting for Celtic against all comers, and pulling the strings, then how does one explain (i) Sevco being treated as the same club, (ii) LNS verdict and no stripping of titles, and (iii) Sevco fans marching while Celtic fans were kettled?

It is suggested that attacks on PL are proof that he is doing his job. It could be, but does not necessarily mean that. In fact, it could as easily mean the opposite; that until recently, he has not been doing his job.

So, given that these attacks are ramping up now, does this mean that the rest of the league were not unhappy with PL prior to now? If the attacks are proof that he is doing his job, shouldn’t no such prior attacks proof that he was not doing his job?

Some of us feel that PL has not fought hard enough for Celtic or its fans for several years. Equally plausible is that yesterday’s news is intended as a rebuke to PL for last weeks statement, and is intended as a reminder to PL of what may come his way if he rocks the boat. If so, why no rebukes before now? The answer would be that PL has either gone along with them, or not caused them any concern. The 5 way agreement, and Celtc’s role in it, is as important to know as the SFA’s shenanigans with LNS.

It is entirely possible that Paul67 is right, and, behind the scenes, PL is fighting the good fight. But, in my opinion, and based on the evidence, the other theory is equally likely. the only people who know about this (Celtic PLC and the SPFL) dont seem to be talking.

The problem is that whatever work is done by the Board is done without the knowledge or involvement of the fans (except a select few, who it seems have largely been sworn to secrecy … no criticism of Connaire, etc. intended).

As the Big Man once said, ‘football without fans is nothing’. Of course, the Board does most of the day to day work of running Celtic, but on issues like last week’s incident (have Celtic demanded a response of even when an answer can be expected?), the Board would do well to remember the words of Big Jock, and get/keep the fans informed, engaged and onside.
