Opportunity for statement win

226

If you are wondering, Kilmarnock are in far better form than Livingston, the only team below them in the league table.  They enjoyed a remarkable 4-3 win over St Mirren on Wednesday and battered Aberdeen 3-0 10 days earlier.  Between those two home wins was a 5-1 reversal at Ibrox, where despite conceding an early red card and penalty goal, they remained in the game until near the hour mark.  Neil McCann has turned fortunes around since his appointment last month and he will be motivated to make a mark against Celtic.

Our run of debutants coming on to score a crucial added time goal started on our first visit to Rugby Park this season.  Kelechi Iheanacho showed Junior Adamu and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain how it’s done by converting a 96th minute penalty.

Injury to Arne Engels leaves Celtic short of midfield options.  Reo Hatate looks low on confidence and form, Oxlade-Chamberlain is not fit for 90 minutes, which leaves Martin O’Neill to choose from Paulo Bernardo or Luke McCowan, neither of whom even made the bench on Wednesday.

Watch out for Sebastian Tounekti.  He dazzled in that drab win at Kilmarnock earlier this season and his persistent work has recently paid off, scoring or assisting three of our last four goals, each one absolutely crucial.  Rugby Park’s plastic suits a player who prefers to pick up the ball and run with it, rather than those who are better chasing a forward pass.

We have seven away games to play this season: Kilmarnock, Newco, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Dundee, and probably Hibs and Falkirk.  We have a great opportunity to record a statement win by picking up three points at Killie.  These players have shown they will dig deep when necessary.  A similar effort will be needed on Sunday.

Wow, I’d never looked/thought about it before so am pretty taken aback to see the incremental revenue from CL participation is almost 100% profit!

It makes sense when you think about it, but it’s still eye popping.

  2. The full year results will be a car crash with doubtless some painful ‘exceptional’ items to rub in the salt.

In the circumstances, not selling Arne last month showed considerable restraint.

That £77 Million in the bank at the end of June will be nearer £50M come the summer. And then what?

    ——————–

we didnt sell Arne, Daizen or Yang despite offers.

The winodw opens ealry I think dure to world cup.

Business will be done and the bank account refunded. imho.

with no incomings until the last days of the window, again i think as late as september.

fans dont like, well dont renew.

I’m sure it says “temporary” in both?

‘Disposal’ ? Ffs ,is that a financial term when talking about employees?

    ————–

  8. Hard to equate the fantastic energy in the room last night at the Foundation dinner with the sad pathetic nitpicking small man stuff on here.

Imagine if the club was running at millions of a loss and with virtually no assets and hadn’t dominated our league for 20 years.

Imagine if all the superstar business whiskids on here or 3rd rate publicans like David Low were running things then we really would be cleaning up wouldn’t we.

David Murray watch out your legacy might be surpassed.

  9. Lubo MON WGS Cal and so many more really stepping up to support the amazing Foundation work last night.

The club and Fergus should be so proud of what this incredible charitable organisation is achieving. 30 years young but what they have delivered is truly life changing as we heard last night.

Great to hear the bunnets own story too.

TBB – can you explain why the FY results will be a “car crash”.

We’ve just had the car crash with these interims so the FY results shouldn’t be a surprise.

I’m probably missing something, but I can’t think why H2 2026 should be materially different from H2 2025.

For sure there will be loan fees and the wages of the loanees plus Wilf’s pay-off, which I’m assuming will be the exceptional items you refer to. Even so, the £17m cash burn you expect in H2 seems a lot.

As I said, I’ve probably had a brain fart and am missing something obvious so I’d be interested to read your thoughts.

    Cheers.

I have often thought along those lines myself.

Using CQN as a barometer, I feel we have become somewhat like the Huns of yesteryear.

  13. ⬇️ Celtic’s interim report shows revenue down 28.9% in the six months to December 2025.

This is where the club will tell us their genius move to sit on record revenues comes in handy. To fill the black hole they made by sitting on the record revenues.

    🔁 Rinse and repeat.

  14. 30m downswing on £84m rev would see most executive teams gutted in any other business.

Ours gambled on us getting past lowly Kairat with an unprepared squad & a manager with a foot out the door.

They’ve compunded it with numerous failures since.

    Heads should roll.

  15. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM @ 7:16 pm,

Well, there is one thing you can say about this board and they have been consistent.

Is they always budget for the Europa League and if they get UCL football it’s a bonus.

Now, it’s not something I agree with, and there are at least three clear anomolies to that.

Yet, that is the budget and UCL money is bunce….

TBB – sorry, don’t bother. I forgot about the £10m for Kyogo.

We didn’t sell anyone in January so the £14m profit on disposal in H1 is unlikely to change much (sell on from Oh?) by year end versus £31.5m last year.

I knew I was missing something obvious 👍

Using a charity dinner as a platform for point-scoring casts a certain mindset in a very telling light.

It reveals far more about those desperate to broadcast their attendance than it does about any genuine commitment to the cause. The need to articulate this to others, repeatedly over a few hours, is little more than social stagecraft, a theatre where the shallow go to buff their egos under the guise of doing good.

  19. Its early November 2026. , the bonfires are still burning.

We as in Celtic have spent all our money. Huge wage bill but no Scottish domination, never-mind European progress.

We are now skint and in debt. Money has disappeared like snow off a dyke.

The board have all been sacked and DD is happily relaxing at the Sandy Lane complex in Barbados. His wife Pat, son Ross and his three siblings are all having fun in the pool. Sspping cocktails. They are watching and contemplating the top of the table EPL game.

Meanwhile the paint is flaking on our crucial steelwork and the plumbers have not been paid. Never mind hot water. the pipes are leaking and our toilets are flooding The poor minimum waged catering staff are long gone and the tents are all over the city centre.

The Celtic shops are shut and staff are now claiming benefits, thinking about their children’s welfare on a cold winters day.

The ” Not a penny more” has been a great success.

Our shirts are logo free as sponsors have voted with their feet. No controversial topics to contemplate is a super bonus.

Very few are attending Parkhead because there are not enough stewards to ensure safe proceedings. Their hours and subsequent wages have been cut and many have decided the intimidation and demonisation is just not worth it.

The collective are claiming a great victory. This is people power

    Now what ??????

  20. Ah just seen GM/78 on…..all is good

All is good nothing to worry about, an interim manager for the 2nd time this season, no Scouting Department, no Football Department, no signed striker for over a year, fans blamed for everything which is a total cover up,nobody sacked for the Nancy debacle, a Shareholder running the club, putting statements out on the club website, other shareholders with no balls and sit back and take ridiculous salaries, stadium needs serious maintenance, merchandise dropping like a stone…..aye all is good, total placement, everyone sees right through you now,you are trolling yourself now, nobody else

  23. Statement from SIPTU General Secretary re Ireland v Israel game:

    13th February

SIPTU FAI members say safety concerns should rule out Israel fixtures

SIPTU members employed by the FAI have raised serious safety concerns regarding any proposed Nations League match between Ireland and Israel, calling on the organisation to show consistency in its approach by withdrawing from the fixtures.

SIPTU Deputy General Secretary, Greg Ennis, said: “A match between Ireland and Israel is not only a serious political and moral issue but also has safety implications for workers and players which the FAI must consider. Our members believe that such a concern, and the duty of care the FAI must show for its staff, must also rule out this fixture.

“This is simply a call for consistency by the sporting body, which has already called for the exclusion of Israeli teams from international competition because of that State’s genocidal onslaught against the Palestinian people. It is unacceptable that the organisation would now demand its employees and players engage with their Israeli counterparts in fixtures that the FAI, and we believe the vast majority of Irish people, believe should not be taking place.

“Our members do not want to be part of a rank hypocrisy in world football which sees Russian teams banned due to their country’s illegal war in Ukraine, while another state that is perpetrating a legally defined genocide should be allowed to sport-wash its reputation at our expense.

“It is up to the governing association to consider these issues and not place players and staff in a situation where their safety and future reputations are in jeopardy.”

He added: “Irish sport has not been placed in such a predicament since the days of the sporting boycott against South Africa. The reputations of players and sporting organisations who broke that boycott were severely tarnished. In 1970, a rugby game between Ireland and South Africa led to major disruption, violence, and disorder in Dublin. Let’s not make the same mistake.

“We believe the Irish people want the FAI to do the right thing here. It must stand by its own words and respect the safety of those it has a duty of care towards. This necessitates it reconsidering its position in relation to fulfilling these fixtures.”
