Opportunity for statement win

226

If you are wondering, Kilmarnock are in far better form than Livingston, the only team below them in the league table.  They enjoyed a remarkable 4-3 win over St Mirren on Wednesday and battered Aberdeen 3-0 10 days earlier.  Between those two home wins was a 5-1 reversal at Ibrox, where despite conceding an early red card and penalty goal, they remained in the game until near the hour mark.  Neil McCann has turned fortunes around since his appointment last month and he will be motivated to make a mark against Celtic.

Our run of debutants coming on to score a crucial added time goal started on our first visit to Rugby Park this season.  Kelechi Iheanacho showed Junior Adamu and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain how it’s done by converting a 96th minute penalty.

Injury to Arne Engels leaves Celtic short of midfield options.  Reo Hatate looks low on confidence and form, Oxlade-Chamberlain is not fit for 90 minutes, which leaves Martin O’Neill to choose from Paulo Bernardo or Luke McCowan, neither of whom even made the bench on Wednesday.

Watch out for Sebastian Tounekti.  He dazzled in that drab win at Kilmarnock earlier this season and his persistent work has recently paid off, scoring or assisting three of our last four goals, each one absolutely crucial.  Rugby Park’s plastic suits a player who prefers to pick up the ball and run with it, rather than those who are better chasing a forward pass.

We have seven away games to play this season: Kilmarnock, Newco, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Dundee, and probably Hibs and Falkirk.  We have a great opportunity to record a statement win by picking up three points at Killie.  These players have shown they will dig deep when necessary.  A similar effort will be needed on Sunday.

It would seem to me that some arguments are confusing a single season’s accounting with a multi-year strategic cycle.

  3. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM @ 10:56 pm,

    So, let’s see, I’m a bitter wee, under~achieveing idiot…

Then why have I telt it straight and true for over ten years?

You got them comments saved in your sad, dark wee files…

    Hail Hail

  4. Just think …a decent CF and RW purchased at the beginning of August …and all this angst wouldn’t be here …none of it….

We would have qualified comfortably for the CL …had another wind fall that we would bank

Probably would have been scattered in CL but hey ho it’s the dosh that counts after all

  5. Celtic Mac,

    Ok…

Are you from an indigenuous folk, Central American, the Amazon… is that it?

Qualifying for the Champions League again this season would have been disastrous for the #OldFirm brand.

The 2021 pattern was replicating itself until people cottoned on and began pointing out the similarities, repeatedly standing on the same rake as it hits you in the nose will get old, real quick.

All will be revealed if one pays attention.

    Pay attention

  7. Celtic Mac,

    Still not getting a response…

Do you work for NGOs like Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders)

    Is that it…

    Hail Hail

  8. Any body celebrating a drop in Celtic football earnings, particularly a drop in merchandising income as a result of Not a Penny more, when CL income is lost, is equivalent of Scales or Trusty or any player scoring an own goal in the last minute of a draw.

Either ignorance of how FSR works or stupidity.

    I give up.

  9. Maolmuire O Muirgheasa on

It becomes even more transparent when the same craven few are wheeled out to blame the supporters for the absolute shit show the club finds itself in.

    We see you.

    Every time.

  10. Maolmuire O Muirgheasa on 13th February 2026 11:42 pm

    Celtic face a dilemma.

Either they recruit players at the very edge of the wriggle room FSR allows and increase chances of qualifying for CL income but if doing so season after the season make the SPFL less and less competitive.

Or they throttle back on the wriggle room as CL progress to next level is uncertain and create a more competitive SPFL.

Use the evidence of your own eyes,

Get used to no more walks in the park domestically and get used to hiding behind the sofa or walk away if competition is not what makes football football.

  13. Auldheid @ 11:45 pm,

Well, fair play to you, you did warn us we would breach….

Guess we’ll get fines and points deducted now!?

Could you please explain again, how we can make a profit and still breach FSR

And please – make it idiot proof so I can understand it…

The business gurus on here slagging off the club’s ‘customers’. Geniuses all… in their own heads only.

Show me a business that has succeeded by alienating its own ‘customer’ base.

Honestly, what hope have we got with this arrogant, non-learning shower running the show?

    Dearie me.

    ================

A business that alienates its own customer base is not in the business of football.

In normal business I can go elsewhere to buy what the business produces.

In football some might go elsewhere, but the majority stay faithful to the club they support.

Thus the comparison flies in the face of reality.

In reality what is best for the SPFL clubs together takes place.

Problem is that if supporters drop their view of reality that clubs are not dependent on each other to survive, the game as a sport is a bogey and no club wants that perception to be realised.

The illusion that one club is separate from another needs to be maintained, just as much as the illusion that The Celtic Board and The Support and The Team on the park can be separated from each other when that is clearly not the case.

Each has a unique and distinctive role to play and it is the denial of these roles that makes Celtic vulnerable to the charges that caused the division hard to justify.

  15. Turkeybhoy @ 12:08 am,

    How true

Celtic Mac – no country, no allegiance, no religion, yet totally moral superior!?

    Check that one out…

such scenarios could easily arise when board members are placing beach balls on the pitch in front of Scales or Trusty forcing them to swing wildly at the match ball

Just back from ‘State of Grace’ the movie that is not the state I’m in…..

If you have never seen it,will recommend it. Sean Penn, Gary Oldman, Robin Wright, Ed Harris et al, set in Hells Kitchen NYC….Only thing wrong with it, came out the same year as Goodfellahs, 1990, and went under the radar…

Probably is time I did pay a visit to the oul country, but my, very distant it has to me said, connections are to Donegal, and not to Dhubland, where I was last in Ireland…..

As for ithers gieing me a mention or two, who wis that said….?

I watched that. Very confrontational. Wtf was she allowed to waffle in response and keep moving the conversation to immigration. The US specialisng in good looking obnoxious blondes right now (I’m not including big orange heid;))

If the top six post split is as it is now, then surely we’ll have the two huns at home and either a third home to either Falkirk, Hibs or Motherwell?

  20. Ziggy, I think your assessment of the post split is the same as mine. If we go into those matches unbeaten from now we incredibly will win the league.

  21. Paul67,

A few years back, it was suggested that we might pay a subscription for CQN. Might I suggest that that become the reality now, given that there is so much utter anti-Celtic nonsense being submitted daily. Even the likes of Auldheid is not heeded.

Given what CQN was, it saddens me that I now ignore most contributors, the bulk of whom seem to have no regard for your goodself.

One game at a time. Lots of negativity about the Livi game, but we created a huge amount of chances. Let’s hope for a good win on Sunday.

  23. Win tomorrow and we’re win win irrespective of whatever the result is at Ibrox. Not sure what I want there. I think the Huns will win but do I want a draw or woukd a Hearts win be lethal for the big Huns. Let’s take care of our own games is the best solution:).

  24. The fact that as supporters we’re a ‘captured customer base’ makes the current state of affairs even more galling for our executives.

16K down on attendance from a comparable SC tie and a merchandise boycott which is obviously hitting home because the board have seen fit to change their reporting method to hide the losses.

  25. We won’t win the league without the fans and a rocking stadium. Hopefully that starts on Thursday, for home games.

    =============================================================

I’d like to echo the earlier suggestion about introducing a subscription model for CQN.

There was a time when this site stood apart — thoughtful debate, informed contributors, and a genuine sense of shared purpose. Lately, however, the volume of repetitive anti-Celtic rhetoric and low-quality commentary has made it difficult to engage in the way many once did. The meaningful contributions are increasingly being drowned out by repetitive and negative commentary.

When long-standing and respected contributors such as Auldheid can post considered analysis and it’s either dismissed or drowned out, something isn’t right. The level of discourse has noticeably declined, and that diminishes what CQN has historically represented.
