Within a few hours the first leg of our Summer Cup Final will be upon us. Make no mistake about it, these are the biggest games of our season.
The players and manager have learned plenty about European football over the last four weeks to know the scale of the task. Maribor will be given due respect but the importance of Saturday’s win over Dundee United cannot be overestimated. Players’ confidence will have received a welcome boost, while some will have realised the weight of responsibility lies with them.
Since the draw I have written enough about the strengths of Maribor, but they are weak at the back – and they are showing all the signs of over-confidence. Having watched us against Legia, this lot will be shocked if a different Celtic turn up tonight. Their fans, media and officials are emotionally spending their Champions League windfall already.
Most of all, we need a disciplined performance from Celtic. No conceding penalties, getting caught in possession deep in your own half, or second yellows. Stick to the basics, stay alert and we have an excellent chance of progressing; this is not a team with irresistible talent.
For a few players, they have the chance to claim a great reputation at the club. What an opportunity…..

I don’t believe it’s inevitable that the potential reduced budget makes privatisation inevitable but to avoid it would require cuts elsewhere or higher local taxes. So it’s a massive negative outcome regardless.
To state it won’t happen because no Scottish party has it as a policy isn’t really a watertight argument. It’s never been explicitly stated as a policy by the Tories either but it’s happening anyway.
Enough for today, there’s football to be distracted by and this discussion will go on a lot longer than today.

Absolutely shocking. One comment by the Judge is unbelievable,
“I also take into account the conduct of the deceased which was undoubtedly reprehensible in the manner she approached your car.”
BTW Good post from The Green & White Tiger
Livibhoy,
Canny see it mate.
I think the captain is probably only there for moral.
Come the Celts tonight :>).
That judges name rings a bell, was he not involved with one of the Hun tax trials or some thing?
Lord Carloway? I’m sure he was?

The story of the lad selling chewing gum on the train to Lisbon reminds that on the Sunday before the game I was lying taking the sun as you do on Estoril’s beach, when my sun siesta was disturbed by a voice in a Glesga accent shouting out something. It was only when I looked up that I discovered a man and his lad with trays of Celtic scarves and rosettes, etc., were asking people on the beach to buy them.
When I asked him if he expected to sell many, he replied “Mate, this is going pay for me and to bhoy to get home. We will sell the lot.” I am sure he did by that Thursday, the never to be forgotten 25th May.
Oh for another beach day like that one. I can but dream.
No seriously, here’s the link:

Thanks, except I don’t understand modern odds!
Acting the goat: did I just fall for that ;-}
Funniest thing about Lisbon looking back for me is that my Dad and Grandpa wore a suit and tie and a celtic scarf each! 80 degress and more!
Mind you it was a holiday of obligation and had to go to mass first:)
I’m not one for entering into the referendum debate, however, I just thought I would share this as it’s opened my eyes:
++++++++
Scotland has voted Tory for 6 out of 68 years.
Scotland has had Tory Governments for 38 out of 68 years.
This is perhaps the simplest aspect of the debate to deal with. Scotland rarely – less than half the time, in fact – gets the governments it votes for. Scots have voted for Labour at every Westminster election since 1955, but by the time of the 2015 election will have had Conservative governments they didn’t want for 38 of the last 68 years.
Whether you support Labour, the Conservatives, the SNP, the Liberal Democrats or anyone else, that’s not democracy. With all due respect to Wales and Northern Ireland, 85% of the population of the UK lives in England, and that means that in practice England always decides what government everyone else gets.
Most of the time (roughly six years in every 10, for the entire modern political era dating back to WW2) that’s been a government Scotland has rejected.
We believe Scotland is a country, and therefore should get the governments it votes for every time – not just when it happens to coincide with what a much larger neighbouring country wants.
That doesn’t mean it should be ruled by the SNP. If you don’t like the SNP or Alex Salmond, you don’t have to vote for them in an independent Scotland – Labour and the Lib Dems were in charge for the first eight years of the Scottish Parliament and could be again. But so could brand-new parties that don’t even exist yet – it’s only a few years since nobody thought the SNP would ever win an election.
Independence isn’t about policies or parties. Those are questions which will be decided at elections, not the referendum. All you have to decide on the 18th of September is who should choose the future governments of Scotland: the people of Scotland, or the people of England?
Been bugging me for a good long time now so here it goes.
Fed up with being told what to do by Eufa and Fifa, you must do this and this is how matches will go.
Surely, by its vey name – -The Champions League kinda says it all. So all this merde about coefficients for club and country is just that. Simplistic maybe but I reckon all the European champions should qualify as a matter of course, seeemples. Then and only then and a big maybe thrown in, those teams who have not been their respective champions can get in with the real Champions.
I mean, look how early in the season we had to start with this nonsense, no where near match fit.
That’s it, time for change or I’ll eat my budgie in protest.
Come on Celtic, just don’t lose tonight.

I agree. I’ve heard valid arguments from both sides and I’ve heard bonkers arguments from both sides and I think the vote will be close. I actually don’t think the most vociferous Yes voters realise the damage they do to their own campaign with their personal smears and macho bravado. Women in particular seen really put off by it.
Suggesting that anyone voting No is aligning themselves with right wing extremism shows a lack of understanding of the nuances of the debate.
I am anything but a flag waving unionist but I like living in the UK. I would struggle to think of anywhere better to live (weather apart).
The scare tactics of exclaiming that Farage and UKIP will run the country would maybe have some more credibility if UKIP had a single Westminster MP. Or a domestic manifesto even.
In any case, despite seeing some benefits of independence I don’t see Scotland as being as politically distinct from England as many people like to imply. The political climate is slightly to the left of England, certainly, but there is no real appetite for a revolution in Scotland. There is no appetite to even use the tax raising powers we have!
The very fact there is not overwhelming support for independence is evidence that we are not as different from England as some would have folk believe.
Shocking decision to only sentence a murderer to 3 years
The fact that he mentioned the victims ” behaviour” surely verifies the Hun bassas intent and nullifies his ” foot slipped off the clutch ” defence
Just a word about the etiquette on posting I’d like to see during tonight’s game.
No irrelevant posts – e.g. ‘Did your cousin go to school with the bloke 3 doors up from me?’
All numbers to be spelt out if not a goal – e.g. ‘That’s mistake no. three from Efe’.
No use of ‘FFS’ unless there’s a goal, penalty or red card against us.
Once a goal has been scored, don’t bother mentioning it if more than 30 seconds have elapsed before you start typing.
There’s more but that’s enough to be going on with.
Makes you wonder eh?

Can I ask Awe Naw to do his id/duplicate poster checking thingy and confirm I am not Green and White Tiger. :)
I watch the games like a supporter, curse and swear at poor first touch or blatant refereeing incompetence or bad decision making by players, but off the park my experience of how things work takes over.
On Res 12 I’d settle for what you said but one of the main messages to be got across to those running our game is that they are accountable for their decisions and it should not take resolutions at AGMs to do it.
I want an Ombudsman type appointment with oversight of our game.
That would do much to restore the trust totally destroyed by what Rangers were allowed to get away with since 1999 when they first embarked on ebts as a matter of remuneration policy.

Question for Party Politics People out there whether they be SNP, Labour or even alas Sado Tories.
Are you voting on your own judgement and informed opinion of what you believe will be best for Scotland whether you be a Yes or a No or are you voting based on what your Party believes is best for Scotland?
Now be honest now!!!
