Ordinary looking Celtic fail to show

1243

Despite a remarkably solid defensive record, we have lost four and three goals on our two visits to Ibrox this season, although two of yesterday’s goals were lost with a two man deficit.  We were deservedly a goal down before Cha Du-Ri was ordered off and the contest irrevocably skewed.  Several Celtic players looked panicked from the opening minutes and it wasn’t until Kris Commons started to menace the Rangers midfield that we appeared comfortable in possession.

Until then, we looked pretty ordinary.

After a remarkably consistent run of games that ensured this season’s league title is Celtic’s, two big games, which could each have delivered a trophy, have been lost.

The drive to the line which is needed for teams to fulfil their potential is not there yet. It will come. Days like yesterday, months like October, are what team building is all about.

If you need a pick-me-up, enjoy The Celtic Family video above, its’ sure to hit the spot.

They just can’t take back what they give out, like all bullies they kach it when it comes to their turn.

Asking the guy to take off a bowler hat…jeez oh don’t they know it’s only BANTER!!

Now that would be funny in July if the bowler hatted were de-crowned..

We blew it, plain and simple, 2 weeks running. We surely would have known they would play yesterdays game as if their very lives depended on it, the question was could we match them.

We need to get over the finishing line as soon as possible, St Johnstone next week will be as difficult as Kilmarnock were last week, it wont be easy, their new manager has them playing some good stuff.

Its a young team we have and the education they will have gained from the last 2 weeks will be invaluable, but the benefit will only come once we get over the title victory line.

  3. Commons is one of those players who needs to play and train to keep in shape. Any injury lay off and he will suffer. I thought he looked fit and leaner yesterday and back to the player of last year. Fully expect him and izzy to regain and keep their first team places.

  4. Rogue

Only problem was if that is counted as a possible goalscoring opportunity, any fouls is really a goal scoring opportunity.

No way was that an “Obvious” (as the rules actually state)goal scoring opportunity as he was about to go into a 50/50 with our keeper and we had 3 players covering behind Fraser!

  5. Not seen the game on TV yet but very apparent at Ibrox of the undue haste Murray had in producing the card for Du Ri compared to the the eternity and will I or won’t I attitude production of the card for Bocanegra

I hope that Celtic never leave this country until this scum and their like are driven into the ground six feet under

Very well put. I couldn’t agree more. I posted last night on the same theme. The KKK were (are) made up of respectable members of the community, who know they are doing wrong, but deny and ridicule their victims. This is the same situation in Scotland. We were NEVER going to be allowed to win yesterday. But it is the insidious cheating that bothers me.

The “honest mistakes” of the Mowbray season when they needed Champions League cash to support their financial doping, has been swept aside. It is the same old situation as the Scotland National Team Coach stated. It is all about RFCinAdministration.

It also looks like our manager has become fair game again. So soon after the loss of his good friend. So predictable too.

    Morning bhoys,

Well, well, well… on the cusp of the treble and suddenly the MIB step it up a notch. Stonewall penalty not given last week and a blatant 90 minutes of cheating from Murray yesterday.

One thing I noticed was how long it took Murray to send their player off at the end, he was desperate not to give it!!!! That was as clear a sending off as you’ll get!!

Ours were soft, Cha’s a yellow at most, Victors gone in very low and controlled, never a leg-breaker which is why these type of tackles were outlawed. Their 2nd goal was offside.

Anyway apart from the blatant cheating I thought we looked rotten yesterday. With-out James Forrest we looked short of ideas, we needed some width and the ability to beat a man and get a cross in. Sammy was good but the rest of the midfield looked too static.

If anything positive has to come from these defeats it’s the fact that we need to improve, maybe the board would have not spent at all with all 3 trophies in the cabinet.

I think we need to look for a similar player to Forrest as back up and a striker with real quality. I like Stokes and Hooper but their composure is lacking at times, Stokesy should have buried his chance yesterday.

The hun coffin did chear me up though.

  8. What i never quite understand is how we so frequently fail to cope against a club who play the same “footballing” style as they did 50 year ago. Rankers never change how they play. Everyman behind the baw when you don’t huv it. A long diagonal ball to a big heided target man and the midfield push up to play off the scraps.

Why is it that every team we play- with der hun taking particular advantage- always seem to pick up the ball when we clear from our box. Specifically at corners? I lost count of the amount of times this happened in 1st half yesterday. Either edu, davis or mccabe picking up the ball.

Whenever we get beat wae them its like a kick in the guts- but the last few years it has been worse. At least in the past they had henderson, baxter, willie johnston, cooper, gascoigne or laudrup…this team are just pish.

Blood and snotters should not be enough for them to beat us.

But hey life goes on: its onwards and upwards for us- can’t say the same for them.

    Re McCabe—

First time I’ve seen him / know nothing about him etc – but I too thought that he looked as though he could play football..

Having said that , I do have to qualify it by stating that Celtic’s midfield was very ordinary yesterday , which might have helped to make him look good.

  10. BrotherAidanIwisnaelate on

Mornin’ all on this bright sunny morning. When I got up this morning, went to the toilet, looked in the mirror and smiled. Still a tim…

Couldnt post yesterday as I was working backshift dealing with the detritus of a combined Celtic v Huns and a warm spring day. A deadly combination.

What to me is a glaring need for this team, and has been for a few years now, is a couple of genuine, no-nonsense hard-men enforcers in the team. Mr Stein’s team had several but he utilised Jim Brogan for Rangers games in particular.

In recent years Martin O’Neill had a few. Lennon and Lambert in midfield and can you imagine elbows trying it on with Bobo, Jan or Joos, naw. Even Jackie Mac could handle himself ( ooh vicar). Following them we had Robson and Hartley, again who would have loved to face the hun yesterday. The current team has no one of that ilk. Probable the biggest squad in our history but no Davie Hays, Bertie Aulds or Roy Aitkens.

The only team I know of that is successful without an enforcer is Barca. In Scotland we cant get away from the hammer throwers and therefore we need to sacrifice a little skill and flair for this type of player.

No before you all go Tonto and say who? I am talking about someone like Black who would have been more suited to yesterday than Ki for instance. This is only a suggestion. I am not au fait with Italian fitba but I am sure we could obtain a cynical meat and potatoes midfielder and centre back at reasonable cost there.

I am surprised that with a management team of Lenny, Thommo and Jan that they have not invested in players of a similar mindset. Pity.

Hopefully we will address this soon. at least for next season..

I had “the pleasure” of being a corporate guest (more on that later) at Ibrokes yesterday. McCabe was interviewed by the Hun mouth piece in the lounge post match. No chance of him signing for us. He’s blue to the core.

  13. BrotherAidanIwisnaelate on

No 7. If you are clever and cute enough you wont get caught. The refereeing was worse in the 60s.You can play hard. Our team yesterday was powderpuff.

  14. No difference between Victor’s tackle and Elbows tackle on Kayal, both Celtic players going for the ball and both Oinks trying to do Celtic players..

The fact that Whittihun went the whole game without a card is proof positive that the rules don’t apply to the Oink players…

    Starry

  15. If you can be bothered to watch the game again – even the first 30 mins.

You’ll notice a game bereft of a midfield – you could probably count on one hand the amount of times a midfielder’s name is mentioned – I include Davis and Edu in that.

Long ball, bypassing 8 or so players and Lee McCulloch ragdolling our CHs.

We were too late to respond and when the card came tha ball was on the slates…

I did notice a distinct lack of praise for 9 men clawing 2 goals back – which made Wanyama’s card all the more galling – because that Rangers team are a bunch of mugs – another 5 minutes of time would have potentially seen 3-3.

Aluko’s goal was plain old skill. The second was offside – fact. The third was a lazy square pass and poor control in the middle of the park.

But don’t worry – every thing is all right in the universe and they’ll be bought over by cajillionaires next week…

  16. IMO Cha should not have been booked far less sent off when all things considered. Vic’s was iffy too but if the letter of the law is to be applied for the two footed, studs up tackle then the same letter of the law should be applied to over the ball tackles too. Whitikar should have walked with Vic but didn’t.Trust me, he won’t be invited to a review panel hearing though.

I thought elbows and Scott Brown were lucky to escape punishment.

  17. BrotherAidanIwisnaelate

Totally agree mate. Elbows had a field day. We’ve been linked with that Icelandic guy Ottensen a few times and he’s played Champions League with Copenhagen we should go for him again.

  18. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Come on Bhoys had we won 2-3 yesterday we would have been over the moon and we would have been as happy as Larry whoever Larry is.We were very poor until we went down to nine men and then a bit of pride kicked in and we troubled Rangers.I said it last night we were far to negative in the first half and gave them to much respect the minute the nine men began to go at them the orcs struggled and I believe that is how we should have started the game. Our young team is not the finished article and our young manager is still on a steep learning curve the two defeats have been very painfull but we need to refocus and get back to winning. The referees are never going to give us anything we have never been on a level playing field imo we never will let the orcs gloat as was said last night defeat is temporary liquidation is permanent.H.H.

  19. DownForSam,

Crap weekend for you mate seeing as we beat you’s in the League on Friday night. This will be 18 years without a trophy for you’s. :-)

Sorry to disagree with you sir,but what you are suggesting is simply impossible.

If Celtic signed a few enforcers,we would be finishing every game with only nine players on the park.

  21. What is a foul?

Is a very slight pull back on an attacker classed as a foul?

What about a two footed challenge when the tackler gets the ball cleanly?

What about holding and pulling a player down?

Joe Ledley was brought down in the box around the 54 minute mark yesterday. it was waved away but in light of some of the other challenges that went punished yesterday, this was as much a foul as many others, yet the referee decided to ignore it. In fact, it was very reminisent of the challenge that gave us a penalty in the League Cup semi-final.

Gary Hooper last week was pushed in the back in the penalty box but Gollum ignored it too The co-commentator said something along the lines that “if you give that, you’d be giving 10 penalties a game.” Ok, I didn’t see another 9 similar challenges last week nor this week.

Why is it that referees fail to apply the same rules when awarding fouls, if the foul is committed in the penalty area?

  22. BrotherAiden

Game has changed from then tho tackling is virtually outlawed now. Ian Black has been red carded loads with hearts it would treble if he was with us.

  23. There was a piece in the Herald on Saturday about a Glasgow pub, Binghams I think, which had been denied a drinks licence because of its appalling record of loyalist, sectarian music and chanting.

As I remember, the ruling contained words to this effect: “No member of the public should be afraid to enter any public house at any time”.

If this applies to pubs, then why not football stands?

  24. Need a keeper too. Randolph would be a cheap option but I feel we should go for Westwood again. He’s kicking his heels up at Sunda’lund, is quality and being kept out by Mignolet who is also quality so no shame there and M’ON would do us a deal I am sure.

  25. BrotherAidanIwisnaelate on

Savo01, we need to ensure they are the genuine article. I watched the Hooivelt videos and thought he was going to be our next Chopper Harris. He wisnae as we all know now. An experienced hard nut centre back and midfielder. thats all.

  26. Good morning Bhoys from a beautifully sunny north Glasgow.

Well I’d thought, and hoped, that I would be in a better frame of mind today. I’m not, still sickened, hurt , disappointed and angry with that performance yesterday.

Auld, McNeill, Burns, Doyle, McGarvey. Lennox, Aitken, Boyd, Larsson, Sutton, Lambert, Hartson…….the list is endless, would have ran through walls to get that result yesterday, not only for their own personal glory but for us, the Celtic support. Too many in yesterday’s squad weren’t prepared to do that for us.

  27. Fouling with Impunity

Fouling with impunity needs the sanction of the referee,

In front of several thousand blind men, can I alone see?

What makes them get away with it, in front of all our eyes?

This sanctioning of cheating as we drown in all their lies.

Fouling with impunity, you can see it makes them feel at ease,

Makes a better player of whittaker, who would normally just freeze,

What makes them get away with it; they don’t even have to try,

This sanctioning of cheating, are we expected to comply?

Fouling with impunity seems established and the norm,

How are we to cope with this? Rise up and face the storm,

What makes them get away with it, is there nothing we can do?

This sanctioning of cheating, because it affects not them but you!

  28. BrotherAidanIwisnaelate,

True but I have a couple of Southampton mates who cannot believe Hooiveld flopped for us and rate the guy as class. I suppose it goes to show how football can be but Hooiveld never got a run of games I feel and made no less mistakes than Big Danny. He signed for £1.5m from AIK exactly the same club and fee as Mjallby who turned out to be world class. It just goes to show I suppose. Danny Fox is also at Southampton and playing great stuff. Who knew????

  29. Sixteen roads to Golgotha on

The footballing ability of our players is not in doubt, but their mentallity needs to be questioned.

Some of them are badly lacking when it comes to heart and fight.

    I will say no more.
