Ordinary looking Celtic fail to show

1243

Despite a remarkably solid defensive record, we have lost four and three goals on our two visits to Ibrox this season, although two of yesterday’s goals were lost with a two man deficit.  We were deservedly a goal down before Cha Du-Ri was ordered off and the contest irrevocably skewed.  Several Celtic players looked panicked from the opening minutes and it wasn’t until Kris Commons started to menace the Rangers midfield that we appeared comfortable in possession.

Until then, we looked pretty ordinary.

After a remarkably consistent run of games that ensured this season’s league title is Celtic’s, two big games, which could each have delivered a trophy, have been lost.

The drive to the line which is needed for teams to fulfil their potential is not there yet. It will come. Days like yesterday, months like October, are what team building is all about.

If you need a pick-me-up, enjoy The Celtic Family video above, its’ sure to hit the spot.

If we get the opportunity to play them again I like to see Henrik Larsson and Roy Keane at Lennoxtown in the run up to the game.

  2. Sit with a bare in work, nice enough person but hates Celtic and everything to do with us.

First thing this morning before I even opened my mouth, stated he was delighted with the result but thought the ref was an absolute joke.

He thought the ref had robbed him of a bit of glory because in his opinion, rangers would have beat us 11v11 but the red card’s had given us an excuse.

Still told him it was the first time he had mentioned any football since the New Year… ;)

  3. twists n turns on

    Kit

you are bang on with the speed at which that red card came out.

    Now, watch the Celtic penalty, and how long the ref deliberates before sending their guy off? Why the deliberation??? It’s rhetorical actually as I know why he took so long. I have the transcript of his thoughts;

    …”oh shit that’s a definite penalty…damn it I will need to give it…hell, that was a clear scoring opportunity…awe naw..wait a minute it’s 3-0, only 5 to go, we should be safe at that…I’ll red card him”…

    If you are interested, here is what he was thinking after 93 mins;

…”oh ffs, 3-2! How long is added again? 4 mins…oh geez oh, that goal has taken 1 min, and a sub = 30 secs more, so that should be 5 and a half added mins….stuff that, we’re on the ropes, I’ll blow at 93.58secs..no one will notice”.

  4. Poor show the last 2 games. 2 chances for a trophy we couldnt take.

In the long run I think we all agree things are looking good for Celtic. Young manager and team. Best squad we have had ina long time.

In regards to the last couple of games, wrong team selections for me (what do I know right) but playing matthews left back instead of Izzy, Mulgrew or Ledley seems strange. Cha & Wanyama shouldnt have been on too start with I dont think.

Sammy & Commons always look threatening when they are on, 2 definate starters for me rest of the season

    Just a blip

    Hail Hail

  5. I was listening to BBC five live when the incident happened with Victor Wanyama and Whittaker, they actually thought Whittaker had been shown the red card, not Wanyama.

    Think that says it all.

  6. RogueLeader..

I agree with you regarding the FIFA laws on goalscoring opportunities.

Although disagree with you on this occasion.

When you watch wallace’s actions to being touch on his shoulder, he buckles both his knees and lets himself fall to the floor. He ‘dives’ trying to con the ref into wrongly sending off Cha.The correct result would have been yellow to wallace and indirect FK to us.

I am wrong in saying that FIFA laws are if you foul an oppenent by pulling his jersey then that is a yellow card offence, if im wrong so are all commentators for SKY, ESPN, ITV and the BBC.As they all refer to such fouls as automatic bookings.

So if murray in some peoples views applied the letter of the law to Cha.Why did the same rules not apply to whittaker and goian who clearly fouled Izzy and Sammy by jersey pulling.

Now i know your not saying murray got every decision right, you just feel that he did with Cha.So regarding the jersey pulling offences, did you get to see how FIFA want refs to deal with those offences?

If you did has murray called them correctly by not booking the hun players for those offences?

    Cheers

That’s because they’re English and don’t understand the nuances of life in Scotland.

    A bit like Alex Thomson.

  8. Whittaker/Wanyama was the worst of the day.

Wanyama takes the ball cleanly, Whittaker comes over the top of ball studs first and catches Victor below the knee. Red card to Victor.

I hope celtic will appeal chas sending off….helps keep pressure on these cheats….the wee fat one would certainly appeal…..it was never to be at yestedays game…ofrficials and police made sure of that………….lets get over it, their season is over finito finito…lets look forward to being victories in cup and league…decisions are are likely to be against in forth coming weeks…all the old tricks will be tried will return…they cant stomach it….wonder who is next to give us grief,,expect it to be ref mclean(the ayrshire hun)…..no doubt he will be ear marked for hampden semis or final……………enjoy the sun……as the big man would say–your only as good as your last performance…..some players let us down

    Yip, agreed.

I did say last night that the decision that could not be defended at any level by anybody was his decision to play less than 4 minutes of the advertised 4 minutes of injury time when Celtic scored a goal, celebrated and made a substitute in those 4 minutes.

For me that decision proves that he is a cheat.

  12. From Video Celts in late 2010

Anyone know if this guy is still in office?

The vice-chairman of the all powerful SFA Referee Committee is a supporter and shareholder in Rangers!

David Dowling left Inverness Clachnacuddin in April this year to become chairman of Brora Rangers but it’s the Glasgow version where his heart lies.

In a feature on Dowling published by the Inverness Courier last January readers were left in no doubt about where his football affections lie.

During the interview the Courier state: “Although he is now an ardent Clach fan, with the name even spelt on his car registration plate, the walls of his office reveal a conflicting football interest.

“Among the photos is a picture of him with his two sons Scott (24) and Christopher (27) — both partners at Cairngorm Windows — all wearing Rangers shirts at the UEFA Cup final in Manchester last year.

“He is a shareholder in the Glasgow club he has supported from boyhood but when it comes to club loyalty there is only one place you’ll find him on a Saturday afternoon — watching Clach.”

  13. ernie, listening to 5 live should be the future for celtic fans.

Their english thats why i do it. I Dont buy the rags, don’t listen to the phone ins, don’t listen to their match reports.

To form a balanced view I go to rangers websites, get a feel for what they think happened during the game, their thoughts, measure them up against mine and then conclude I’m right :-)

I would rather my visit on the internet is recorded on a rangers site, rather than earning money for a media who try to make you think they are being fair, but really only writing headlines that their FOD readers will buy.

Really? Look at a freeze frame or slow motion to see how a referees call is justified? A call where an obvious goal scoring opportunity was stopped. Its so obvious the naked eye can’t see it in real time? But the laser vision of Murray and his assistant can see it.

We will never agree on this call. But there were other awful calls and a truly awful refereeing performance by Murray. Offside against Stokes, no offside against Wallace at their second goal, the thuggery by McCulloch, the simulation by McCulloch, the simulation by Wallace at theCha red card, the thuggery against Samaras, the missing minutes at the end when they were on the ropes etc.

The officials mishandled so much yesterday and all of it to our disadvantage. That is because we are the dirty team right? We are renowned for our thuggery and lack of football. We’d rather lkick the man than the ball every time?

We were top of the fairplay league going into yesterday’s game.

We dont need to sign hardmen,,,what we need is our players to pass the ball without fear, not to panic whenever a hun in a R*ngers top run towards, not to hoof the ball anywhere everytime we go to Ibrox!!

Far too many of our players were weak mentally yesterday,,yes they are young, but there age cant be used as an excuse forever!!!

    ===============================

It’s the bravest thing in football – to play football when all around you is chaos, pressure, violence and panic.

This young team managed it last season and the results were spectacular. They will manage it again; they have the ability, but the mental discipline to carry it out is the elusive part. Barca manage it nearly every week – that’s why they are so lauded.

  16. We came. We froze. We squandered.

Can Lenny do the big games ? That is still the question.

  17. I thought both our red cards were harsh, but not outrageous, decisions.

I would actually be pretty sanguine about them if I had seen any indication that Murray applied his discretion indiscriminately overall – as others have said, however, that clearly wasn’t the case.

  18. twists n turns on

I heard the English beeb guy on 693 say last night that when their commentator in Scotland, Roddy Forsyth, relayed the game he thought Wallace was about to be booked for diving at the Cha red card incident.

The team have not been at there best in the last 2 games I dont know why they just didnt appear to be able to get up for it. Neil Lennon is sounding a bit flat and that I can understand he gets treated like an outcast in this country and when he is low this could transfer it back to the team.We fans have a big part to play at our next game we must get right behind Neil and the Bhoys lets create the thunder and raise the roof we are on our own in this bigoted wee country but we can show our solidarity remember Glasgows Green and Whyte.H.H.

  22. Agent Craig “Green and” Whyte!! – There was nothing like that in it. Just scenarios and then you are asked what you would do. I remember that one because I was surprised at the answer and the parallels between it and yesterday were huge.

  23. I think that everyone on here feared the ramifications of a Celtic victory yesterday.

So too did the civic authorities.

Therefore, the best that we could have hoped for, per game, was a non contentious draw.

Murray had the early opportunity to provide some insurance, via the red card; and he took it.

I suspect that institutional spite was behind Neil’s banishment, and I suspect that any pitch side suspension will coincide with the day we either clinch the title or are presented with the trophy.

I will go further and claim that it will take a monumental effort to win the cup.

They will have two opportunities to derail us.

I have said often on here as to Celtic’s options:-

    Belfast Celtic or Derry City.

Either get out or chuck it.

Playing in Scotland is no longer an option.

  24. RalphWaldoEllison – I dont think he had a good game and I don’t think he was consistent with his calls. I just think he got that one right. Very”jobsworth” but right. No way he would have given it at the other end. I also still maintain that 99% of the folk berating the guy for that call would have berated him for not doing it had it been the other way around

  25. Hoop hoop Hooray on

A lot of next day debate going on. We can argue all day about them. My views on the major incidents haven’t changed no matter how many times i view them.

For me though the key point is not whether the decisions were right or wrong. It was the actions of the officials. The opportunities. What we didn’t get as much as what we suffered.

Cha and VC were opportunities for Murray. No second thoughts. No hesitation.

Stokes clean through. No hesitation. Flag up.

Sammi badly fouled in Chico territory twice in quick succession in first half. No hesitation play on.

The full time whistle blown early as the ball is sailing back to the Hun box.

These were the telling points. Not whether the MIB was right or wrong. His intentions and that of his assistants were blatantly obvious.

In no way am I attempting to re write history. At no point did I mention or even alude to the fact that the players I listed had not been part of failures within their times at Celtic.

What I’m saying is that there was a mindset within those players which is sadly lacking in many of the first team squad today.

Yes several were on the field of play on ‘Black Sunday’, yes some were there in Milan in ’70 and I’m sure that all of them had poor games. The difference is that in my opinion those players I mentioned would have worked so much harder and would be hurting so much more than most of yesterday’s team.

They deserve tremendous credit for overtaking the huns and putting us in such a commanding position in the league and that takes guts, determination and bottle. But it takes a different type of bottle to get yourself over a winning line. On the last 2 Sundays, those players have let themselves and us down badly.

  29. Stokesy was denied a goalscoring opportunity yesterday, but there was no reda card.

Why, because the stand side linesman was the person who denied him that opportunity. He was a couple of yards onside. D

Didn’t see too many TV replays of it though.

Mmm —— think Celtic and a lot of Celtic supporters made the fatal mistake of underestimating Feyenoord. They were a really good team . They passed Celtic to death. I was not over confident . I had seen Feyenoord hump AC Milan 2-0 earlier in the competition [ Wim Jansen scored the first ] . I got bored telling people that the Feyenoord team I’d watched in Rotterdam were way better than an over rated Leeds team.

I hitched from Cambridge to Milan . I travelled knowing that we were facing a really good team . I wasn’t surprised that they beat us.
