Organisational indiscipline remains a concern

949

Yesterday’s win at Fir Park was huge for Celtic’s season but we should caution against talk of a corner being turned.  The team possessed the resilience (and Irish magician) to come from behind and beat the team who were second in the league, but we have been here before.

The Motherwell goal will cause Neil Lennon particular concern.  After losing a goal to an early corner kick against Rennes on Thursday, it seems impossible to believe that the team switched off at another corner kick, but only Beram Kayal was alert to the threat of Motherwell taking a short corner, and he was already covering a threat.

Organisational discipline is as important as having better players to the outcome of many football games.

Leaving aside any antipathy against the British Army, Robert Fisk has defined exactly the unease I feel about this blanket wearing of the poppy on tv.

Fair enough if somebody wants to. It’s the hypocrisy that I find nauseating.

If the weather had been better, Olivia and me would have taken you up on the tickets.

We were with bjmac for the Rennes game. Terrific.

Hope you are well and not working too hard!

  7. Looking back on the game –

I think that was the best performance we’ve seen from Celtic this season, and bears comparison with the best performances of 2010/11.

Going to the likes of Fir Park and Tynecastle is a different proposition from the way we play at home. Flair and quick tempo passing go out the window, with players like Kayal coming into their own in what is always a congested midfield.

I also stand by what I said before the game – Forrest was the wrong choice. Yes, he was kicked off the park, but it wouldn’t have taken a genius to predict that that would happen. The pitch and style of football was ideally suited to McCourt’s style of play – if you can dribble the ball the way he does, you don’t need a billiard table surface (and yes, I did get it right for once, and yes, I’m going on about it – nae class!).

MOTM for me was Sammi, just as he was against Rennes. The coaching staff need to recognise (I’m sure they do) his importance. He is demonstrably an all round player, whose intelligence is vital for winning games; he isn’t afraid to get hurt, and he always always plays for the team.

Stokes’s performance was the biggest surprise. Not only did he take his goal well and notch up yet another assist (taking his goals/assists ratio way out of any other current Celtic player’s reach – 1 per 71 mins), he also confirmed that the recent games weren’t a blip – he genuinely works hard. One moment stood out in the game, fairly innocuous but hugely important psychologically: at about 37 mins in, he chased and harried Motherwell’s defenders and goalkeeper, covering a tremendous amount of ground, to finally force the error and hand possession back to his team. It summed up Celtic’s appetite for the game, and the players’ will to win for their manager.

  8. This under-19 team are showing an urgency and willingness to work sadly lacking in the first team at times. It can’t all be down to the energy of youth. Our first team are hardly geriatrics!

They might have. Don’t know. My tickets were for East South Stand but turnstiles closed. They redirected a couple of Hundred of us through 1 turnstile. If there’s one thing Celtic have always been cack at and that is ticket and entry organisation.

Just main stand. Only about half as full as Barcabhoy game though.

I’m well impressed with the young Bhoys of Paradise. Strong, organised and skilfully.
