Organisational indiscipline remains a concern

949

Yesterday’s win at Fir Park was huge for Celtic’s season but we should caution against talk of a corner being turned.  The team possessed the resilience (and Irish magician) to come from behind and beat the team who were second in the league, but we have been here before.

The Motherwell goal will cause Neil Lennon particular concern.  After losing a goal to an early corner kick against Rennes on Thursday, it seems impossible to believe that the team switched off at another corner kick, but only Beram Kayal was alert to the threat of Motherwell taking a short corner, and he was already covering a threat.

Organisational discipline is as important as having better players to the outcome of many football games.

  2. Marco Materazzi?

No thanks. Just above the likes of Doof for me.

What he said to Zidane was shocking.

Not the kind of person we want at Paradise.

Agree we need an experienced defender just not him.

Will be interesting to see when and which SPL game richmond is next wheeled out for.

This is a guy who, at the height of the Dougie, Dougie stuff came on to Shortbread and claimed he did not know why he had been dropped and was getting no communication from the ref’s authorities.

Clearly he has much to do to curry favour with his bosses, He started on Sunday.

Time for Lawwell, if serious about sorting out the SFA, to insist that refs reports, or at least markings, are published after very game. We will either have loads below 7.9 ( the failure mark) pr, more sinisterly, a lot of 10.0 for perfection. suspect Richmond may have got the higher score from his bosses after the most incompetent performance I have seen in many a long year.

Where else in the realms of professional world football would a referee who has not officiated at the highest level for 18 months be recalled and given such a high profile game? Where?

No other referee was available? Yea right!

Who gave the go ahead for this mysterious decision? Who?…and more importantly why?

There is no logical reason, is there. It was disgraceful.

This was the game of the round. A big, big game. Second was playing third with everything on the line……and it was given to a referee who hadn’t refereed an SPL game for 18 months.

I’ll say it again where else other than Scotland could this happen?

Make no mistake the fix is well and truly in……..this is our biggest challenge…….the MIB have to be cleaned out along with the people who appoint them.

Read that again. Read what you wrote again. Pure and simple nonsense. Plain nonsense.

I am moved to ask one simple question.

If the refs are THAT BAD, if it’s THAT CORRUPT …

WHY EVEN GIVE US THE PENALTY IN THE FIRST PLACE?

In your convoluted nutty conspiracy scenario there the ref would then have had to give a decision, no matter how blatantly bad, against us to even up the damage of a late penalty. I won’t even ask what would have happened had we defended from the front and never let them near our penalty box for the rest of the game … instead I’ll ask, again, that sophmoric question I just did.

Wouldn’t it be easier all round just NOT TO GIVE US THE DECISION?

Oh yeah, and if the ref that day had been willing to give Rangers a penalty for free, why not do it at nil-nil? Why wait until late in the match when we were a goal up through another penalty? Why not send off a couple of Celtic players in the game?

Wasn’t that a Must Win match for them that day?

Seriously, I don’t even know why I am wasting my time debating this point. It’s lunacy.

what about hamiltons goal from a corner, the ham player was offside from the get go, not only was goal allowed but the goal scorer had failed a drug test the week before.

  7. Re the Rangers tax case —–

My understanding is that Rangers are in deep doo doo in consequence of their EBTs being ” disguised remuneration” and therefore illegal .

    Question —–

Does anyone know if the relevant beneficiaries of the relevant EBTs have been interviewed by HMRC ?

  8. JF – I think you are giving the Evening Times’ most loyal and staunch Rangers correspondent far too much credit.

So the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-seeing, all-wise hand of refdom conspired against us, to take away our league title last year.

I’ll tell you what … they must be AWFUL at it then, because we almost did it. In spite of them.

Really, seriously, you are talking nonsense.

I ask again … why the complicated scenario? if this had been in the hands of the refs, why let us get so close? Why not take it away from us at Ibrox? Honestly, your argument has no merit whatsoever.

  10. LiviBhoy

As of yet nobody knows what was said, it could have been anything from a bit of banter that is common-place on the field to something more harsh. We may never know.

As a player he is a nasty piece of work at times and I suppose it really wouldn’t work with refs in Scotland for us although he’d get away with murder at some other clubs. But someone of his standing or similar is needed and has been for years – defenders need to learn from playing beside those that have played at the top of the game – think David Weir (only better quality). We can’t afford anyone still in their prime but 35-36 year old centre backs who have played at the top level have experience to make up for their waning pace.

  11. South Of Tunis – The beneficiaries of the EBTs will not be interviewed. It is up to the company to deduct PAYE and NIC at source so HMRC chase them. HMRC will not look in the direction of the beneficiaries, the company could pursue them. However that would be difficult if the beneficiaries were in possession of documentation stating they would not have to pay this. Also if HMRC had this same documentation what do you think that would do to the chances of them succeeding in their case?

  12. I don’t know if there is a conspiracy but that does not mean to say that there isn’t corruption at work.

Do you seriously believe that with sums of money in the tens of millions at stake that there is no possibility that corruption can be a factor?

Do you also believe that in a country where anti-Irish racism and anti-RC bias is historical and present in some degree in all sections of society that this does not include the men from all walks of life who are our referees?

  13. If Phil’s latest blog is correct then Celtic will lose my pound. As Paul67 said, whichever part of Celtic is dependent on Rangers I’m willing to give up. Celtic board — think long and hard about the fans before your next move.

    Big Nan:

I didn’t say I didn’t believe they don’t like us and would want Rangers to win. I am not even going to say that there are no refs out there who make it their work to give Rangers every advantage.

But those people DID NOT cost us the SPL title last year. People here are pointing to one bad decision as “proof.” I can point to a dozen bad judgements by our manager in team selection, to a dozen crazy defensive lapses, to points dropped at home in matches we should have won by six, and yes, to that Samaras penalty miss which is what really cost us the title.

I was sick that day, you know that? Absolutely sick. I was in a pub full of people celebrating like the league had been won and I was sick, because I had a bad, bad feeling that we’d let them off the hook, that having given them breathing space we would conspire to cut our own throats … and so it proved.

I saw Inverness coming, cause we struggle badly there, like that ground has ghosts or something.

Not for one minute did I fear refs taking it away from us. I knew we were quite capable of doing that on our own.

If this is true, and I have no reason to disbelieve what he is writing, this could signal a serious downturn in the future of Celtic.

If it comes to light that Celtic approve the cheating of rfc for the past 11 years of EBT use then I will seriously consider my position and will unlikely conitnue my financial support of the club.

This will be the final straw for me (and I would suggest many) andthe Celtic board will have chosen saving rfc over the future of our club.

I hope I’ve picked you up right.

  22. Sincerely hope this is one of few times Phil is off the mark, I’d have to seriously consider whether it was worth supporting a game where cheating is condoned by the club who have lost the most because of it; the ‘Old Firm’ tag would be entirely justified for once.

Would be yet another sign of just how out of touch the PLC is with the average punter; we are not defined by our rivalry with them, even if the club’s board apparently seems to think so; message needs to be sent loud and clear to the club that such a deal is utterly unacceptable; would Rangers show us such mercy? Not a chance in hell.

  23. If PMac’s sources are correct then the irony of the Huns tax evasion is that Celtic will potentially come out of it worse than them.

Empty stadium=no cash Dermot. Think about it!

  24. If Phil is correct it is time for action. We should demonstrate at games (banners etc) and let the board know that if they agree to Rangers getting away with a slap on the wrist we will not stand for it. Hopefully the GB and various Celtic supporters groups will call for a united front. Any supporters of the board on site agree with their alleged stance – stand up now any forever be labelled a H*N supporter.

  27. James

Yes off course we have only ourselves to blame because we as a team weren’t/aren’t good enough but while those in charge of games allow cynical fouls to go unpunished (see motherwell at the weekend) and “honest mistakes” to penalise us while benefit others, it’s difficult to know exactly where we really are.

If there was a proper level playing field and we were still doing poorly, then at leat we would know where the problem lies and how best to fix it. We could spend bucket loads of money on players but if decisions keep going against us, they will lose games too.

Fix the refereeing and then see where we’re at.

Now I may be wrong, but I will look at past articles, but I am sure in the past I have read posts of yours were you attribute at least partial responsibility, if not full responsibility, for Celtic losing points or Rangers gaining points to respective league positions. As a matter of fact I am sure that you posted articles linking to a particular website highlighting the peculiarity of referees decisions with regards how they affected Celtic losing points or Rangers gaining points and that you were strongly opinioned the effect this was having on Celtic’s challenge for the league.

I understand your frustrations with regard our current predicament at board level and with regards transfer activity and I agree that both have contributed to our league position this last few years. However, it is my opinion (as well as yours in the past I believe), that although not completely to blame for Celtic losing the league in any one of the last 3 seasons that the MIB have directly affected results in some of our clubs games over this time.

Please correct me if I am wrong. If I am not wrong then please refrain from telling people they are wrong and suggestions others arguments have no merit on the blog.
