Organisational indiscipline remains a concern

949

Yesterday’s win at Fir Park was huge for Celtic’s season but we should caution against talk of a corner being turned.  The team possessed the resilience (and Irish magician) to come from behind and beat the team who were second in the league, but we have been here before.

The Motherwell goal will cause Neil Lennon particular concern.  After losing a goal to an early corner kick against Rennes on Thursday, it seems impossible to believe that the team switched off at another corner kick, but only Beram Kayal was alert to the threat of Motherwell taking a short corner, and he was already covering a threat.

Organisational discipline is as important as having better players to the outcome of many football games.

If it ever comes to a battle of nerves between HMRC and Rangers, HMRC are on to plums. No way will Craig Whyte blink first.

Watching a snippet of the interview on the STV programme from last night, I couldn’t quite put my finger on who he reminded me of. Then I got it.

I don’t believe a word of what he’s published just then. Because the scenario you just outlined is bang on. All our years of sound financial management would be overturned at a stroke. You can’t honestly BELIEVE our board wrap us in a straightjacket this tight and then allow our biggest rivals to escape the consequences of their own behaviour?

On a site today where I’m reading nonsense such as “If Samaras had scored the penalty the ref would have awarded one to Rangers right away” you are accusing ME of being daft?

I’ll take that as a compliment.

  3. IF Big Phils story is correct and I hope he is well wide of the mark with this then the repercussions for Celtic FC will be far more challenging than those of their financial bed mates at ibrox, ANY attempt to slap the wrist of a tax cheat is morally repugnant, it is tantamount to telling everyone its okay to cheat and steal, forget for a minute this is rangers were talking about, if this was aberdeen, killie etc this deal would not be on the table, they would be left to swim in their own mire and rightly so,

IF this is true and Celtic FC play their part in it then as much as it breaks my heart l wont be back whilst the current Board are in place,

Dont do it Desmond, you will never ever be forgiven.

Not in the least bit surprised by Phil’s article, as we’ve seen plenty of examples of the board’s OF credentials. I also agree that many thousands of season cards will be returned….mine included.

It would definately signal that the time was ripe for regime change!

At this point though, I think it would be a good idea if the people running our club actually put out feelers through the Associations and cyber communities to get some proper perspective.

Paul – you must be overdue an interview with the Beeb, eh?!! :-)

  5. If Phil is correct I am absolutely disgusted yet completely unsurprised in the approach of Celtic PLC.

  6. If Phil is right then ……… I think of the Game of Shame when Ragers were the culprits but only Neil lennon was punished.

The scale is different and so different that I cannot see myself remaining a part of Celtic. Worse still, Celtic will not be part of me.

Or you wanna tackle the REASON we are weak?

  8. James Forrest is 100% correct.

The only reason we lost the league last season was due to our own incompetence and not that of the referees. That, coupled with Rangers hitting a rich vein of form when it mattered, were the ONLY reasons we lost it.

    End of.

Or you wanna tackle the REAL REASON we are weak?

Cause this obsession we have for looking outside for the probblem is precisely HOW this grubby deal will be done, if it is, from INSIDE our club, whilst we’ll barely raise a voice.

Let’s face it, we’ve known this was on the cards for weeks now. And in that time what have we heard?

From the Celtic Supporters Association? Nada. Joe O’Rourke instead has chosen to write three articles lately about the Scottish government. It makes me wonder whether he’s been nobbled by New Labour.

From the Celtic Trust, the shareholders? Nada. Too busy, it seems, working on their standing area motion for next years AGM, or maybe this nutty “Membership Scheme” which will split our fans into two groups.

Seriously. Today, of all days, we shouldn’t be raking over the coals of every bad refereeing decision from last year.

  16. Can’t believe Phil has this one correct there is no way the Celtic heirerchy would slit their own throats in this way.

This would make them pariahs beyond anything seen in Celtics history, christ even Mo Johnston’s move would hurt less then this.

Yes we are “Faithfull through and through” but we would not put up with this outcome without blood on the streets and I would be surprised if like minded supporters from Aberdeen etc didn’t feel the same way.

  17. tommytwiststommyturns – Common sense. We are rightly or wrongly pursuing a fiscal path. They have been pursuing a fiscal path diametrically opposed to ours whilst our board have been getting lambasted for their choices. As I said, rightly or wrongly.

There is no way on God’s green earth our board will rip up their fiscal beliefs for them. Also there is no way our board would vote yes, the fallout would be too much.

    None. Nada. Zilch.

Going by common sense and logic this is not true.

    Very true!

As for the Phil Mc comments I am in the process of writing to Celtic to express my dismay that this could be the out come.

  19. I certainly wouldn’t go back whilst the current board were in charge IF (and lets remember its only an if for now!) they do indeed hand the new huns an ill deserved lifeline

Cant remember who posted the quote “whichever part of Celtic is dependent on Rangers I’m willing to give up” (our esteemed host methinks?) but that hits the nail on the head for me.

Surely the club has considered the fallout and outcry such a move would produce? There truly would be the typical ‘angry mob’ converging at Celtic Park, pitchforks raised and torches ablaze!!

    Don’t do it Celtic.

  20. Just an idea. If every season ticket holder were to write to Celtic PLC listing SB details and how long they have held a SB and then let them know in no uncertain terms that if the board agree to Rangers being allowed to escape unpunished we will not renew our SBs. There will be no point Scottish football will be finished the cheats will have won the Celtic supporters years of putting up with c**p about fiscal prudence and having to watch as a never ending line of inferior players are allowed to wear the hoops was in the end for nothing. We will not be back at Parkhead.

The community that is Celtic FC will always be in my heart but i would be unwilling to attend any game in a league that allows cheating and dishonesty as blatant as allowing Rangers to escape with a paltry 10 point deduction.

  21. If there is even the suspicion that “our” club colludes in saving the huns then I am finished with Celtic from that point onwards. Unequivocally and 100%. It would be a betrayal of the support, the like of which has never been perpetrated by any club anywhere. Whoever would support such actions (inside or outside the club corridors) would be stooping lower even than any hun.

It better not be true because there willl never be any forgiveness for such an evil outrage against its own support. It better not be true. The consequences will be nothing less than the endgame for Brother Walfrid’s creation and its 123 years of mostly peerless history and tradition, and for the hitherto unshakeable faith of the true support. Such an action would decimate that faith. It really better not be true.

It reallly better not be true.

If, and it is a big if (nearly as big as Lionel Richie’s enormous hands) the Celtic board have sanctioned this kind of action as reported by Phil then my season ticket would be history until every single person responsible for such a decision has long left the club.

It is likely to be tested fairly soon, certainly before the season is finished.

My instinct on this one is that the Celtic Board need to tread very carefully. Blantyre Kev suggested as much a couple of weeks ago when he said the downstream consequences could be more severe for Celtic than for Rangers, where Rangers are welcomed back into the fold, and Celtic lose much of the club’s support in reaction.

There are so many different influences, but the last of them ought to be the short term financial effect. Not least of all, the blind eye turned by Celtic effectively invalidates our own buiness model of the past 7 years, not to mention the viability of the SPL as a business environment.

Perhaps the Board would be kind enought to define quite what part of Rangers our cub is dependent upon, allowing us to come to our own view.

In the absence of this, I think I am smart enough to work out the extent of it. Let me reiterate: The club I support will no longer exist if its current Board is complicit in the re-manufacture of Rangers as a SPL member.

If what Phil is reporting is true, I can see no point in following Scottish football anymore.

Not just Celtic supporters but supporters of any club. And while we’re at it, why pay your taxes or respect the rules of financial fair play.

This will be an absolute scandal if this is allowed to happen. I can see our Board calculating on the financial implications of a phoenix Rangers being allowed to continue in the SPL but it guarantees a boycott by our supporters.

This decision is commercial suicide and virtually guarantees Rangers supremacy in Scottish football with Celtic ending up like Hibs or Aberdeen.
