With four years left on Matt O’Riley’s contract, Celtic can afford to reject any offer which falls below their valuation. Atalanta’s reported bid of around £14.5m was not expected to be accepted. The Italian club know that Celtic can afford to wait until late in the window in the hope of attracting others to the table, before they need to seriously consider selling. £14.5m was just an opener – we all know how the game works for players in demand.
Atalanta’s highest spend on a player is £25m (€29m). That matches what Atletico Madrid were prepared to bid for Matt in January, which has established a value for the player.
There is every chance he will move this summer, but Celtic’s aspirations and Atalanta’s ceiling means he might not see a lot of Bergamo in the season ahead. In the meantime, let’s hope we get to keep the player for another year at least.

Celtic’s feeder club in Austria, Admira Wacker, have revealed they are set to get more loan players this season from the Scottish champions. (Glasgow Times)
Stateside Celts get another game to enjoy .
Have we signed Bernardo officially yet,or are things still” moving along nicely”.
Just make sure we keep Ibrox in our rear view mirror. That determines how fast we drive.
Same number of new strips as new signings……..
“There is every chance he will move this summer”
Am not being obtuse Pablo but I have never understood what the phrase “every chance” … as opposed to e.g. “a chance” … means.
Care to elaborate?
If Matt O’Riley leaves clearly we are in the market then for Bernardo AND another midfielder?
Will BR,after taking the boy to America, give Lagerbielke a start tonight?.Remember,he could have gone to Italy in January window, but was kept ,just in case.Is the America trip the same because we have not brought in a CH.
Boy should be back home talking to clubs, possibly bring in the cash toward another CH.Why am I surmising things? Our signing, transfer strategy is a monstrous puzzle.
I will desist forthwith.
Bakc to Basics,
Not being obtuse here, but, how clear,is ” Clearly in the hunt for another midfielder”
Care to elaborate?
😋😋🙄
Matt O’Riley was very honest when he spoke about his disappointment at Celtic rejecting his move to AM in January .
I think that it is very unlikely that he will be happy to remain playing within the SPFL / Celtic this coming season , if a club from one of Europes big 5 leagues , makes a bid for him .
His agent is also unlikely to be happy .
Celtic have a strong hand in a 3 way game of poker , but not as strong as the player .
Matt will be sold this window .
If not we will have an unhappy player on our books .
He’s happily playing for us in the USA because he is in the shop window and he expects his big move this transfer window .
All just my opinion .
I can’t read his mind of his agents .

You sure you’ve got that the right way round, Paul?
I finally caught up with the final stages of The Tour de France yesterday having recorded all of them but only able to watch a few in real time due to their length, the Euros and Copa America. I was delighted that Tadej Pogacar won again and was in fantastic form throughout. I don’t think the commentator liked him because he bogged up his main rival Jonas Vingegaard at every Stage and every opportunity he got.
I noticed at Stage 19 a guy wearing a Celtic jersey shouting on the riders and at Stage 20 a father with his young son, both resplendent in their Hoops tops among the supporters on one of the climbs. They had chosen an excellent spot because they were shown on TV about four times as each group of riders cycled past. You normally see Celtic tops on all the big occasions but in four years of watching The Tour this is the first time I’ve seen the Hoops.
TINYTIM- I never read or heard MOR saying anything about moving in January, not to say it didn’t happen mate…..
bigged not bogged *

Re Matt TT,do you have any links/source/ pointers to Matt expressing his disappointment?
With thanks

Indeed.

Atalanta has a well-established recruitment model, they’ve been at it for years.
Matt very much fits in with the profile of players they sign but unfortunately for us the offers they’re making also fit in with the sort of transfer fees they pay, so you wouldn’t expect them to value him at much more than what they’ve, supposedly, offered.
Interestingly they obviously see player trading as a business in itself. They invest large sums in an academy that has produced some outstanding players recently, and they also have an under 23 team that competes in the Italian 3rd tier. 38 players out on loan last season. And a manager who is fully committed to the plan and has been for a number of years.
People look at the Europa league victory and assume the success has come from divining under 25s and developing them but they’re a club that has fully committed to a very comprehensive model for a long time
They will always attract well-advised talented young footballers.
Their big sale this Summer is Koopmeiners who’s move to Juventus might be the catalyst for Matt’s to them. I remember the Huns being desperate to sign him a few years ago, now he’s moving on for €60m. They have a genuine pathway to the best teams.

not in any way to explain away the more than 1,000 people who have bought a seat for the opening match and don’t attend. I do know that here we have more than 80 people willing to travel to the game, even though it’s a Sunday afternoon/early evening meaning some will not get home until early on Monday morning, but the ferry company have said that they can only accommodate 40 supporters on one coach, not even a full coach load, meaning that there will be more than 40 supporters’ seats empty as a result and that’s just one CSC.
also the killie game is on a sunday afternoon which never helps the crowd (or gives folk another excuse not to go depending on how you look at it!).
No idea why the apparent suitors for MOR are refusing to just come right out and pay the £30 million.Recent transfer fees paid for players, some under20s,with ” Potential” make MORs price,an absolute bargain. As long as Celtic hold out for the stated fee,if he goes, good luck.
No idea what those fekin scattercash idiots in the EPL are thinking. The pay more for reserves.
Which reminds me.From FF on getting shot of Lammers.
” There must be some fekin thick club out there somewhere, who will buy him”

If you’re as smart as Matt you’d also look at Ademola Lookman and see a player who joined Atalanta a year older and developed into a top footballer at 26
Just checked Atalanta Quick News and they are raging at Signore Lawwellini.
Just pay what they want they’re shouting ,Matteo is clearly unhappy.
Morning all from a very pleasant Chapel Hill.
The rain forecast is being pushed out, but still thunder storms around half time tonight – hopefully they’ll move out also.
At least the fan zones near the stadium will get good weather leading up to KO.

Atalanta make an operating loss, they are dependent on player trading profit to remain sustainable. Pay over their valuation for every player they’re after and they’ll quickly go bust

Starting price for bids has to be AT LEAST £40M, if not £50M.

Am sure you could see `undeterminded` and understand it meant “undetermined”
Of course I could and I was certain it was a typo. I just found the `new word` funny.
Absolutely nothing against you.

If Matt goes, I , too, want as much as possible but I don`t feel the comparison is fair as the EPL is quite a bit better than the SPFL.
He’s a DM as well, not an attacking midfielder
Hot Smoked, even if MOR has an 80% decline in those metrics in a tougher league (with much better players supporting him), he’s still matching the Onana figures.
Let’s see how MOR does in the next 2 games, playing in a team that is vastly outmatched on quality compared to their opponents.
Empty seats….
I don’t mind if season ticket holders decide not to attend a game.
It does annoy me (greatly) that Celtic won’t put a system in whereby I could have a chance to buy said ticket.
Coming over from Canada, I don’t like asking friends for their tickets. Just wish I could buy one of these unused ones.
Weeron.
