With four years left on Matt O’Riley’s contract, Celtic can afford to reject any offer which falls below their valuation. Atalanta’s reported bid of around £14.5m was not expected to be accepted. The Italian club know that Celtic can afford to wait until late in the window in the hope of attracting others to the table, before they need to seriously consider selling. £14.5m was just an opener – we all know how the game works for players in demand.
Atalanta’s highest spend on a player is £25m (€29m). That matches what Atletico Madrid were prepared to bid for Matt in January, which has established a value for the player.
There is every chance he will move this summer, but Celtic’s aspirations and Atalanta’s ceiling means he might not see a lot of Bergamo in the season ahead. In the meantime, let’s hope we get to keep the player for another year at least.

Empty seats….
I don’t mind if season ticket holders decide not to attend a game.
It does annoy me (greatly) that Celtic won’t put a system in whereby I could have a chance to buy said ticket.
—
it is ridiculous that a system so widely available hasnt been adopted by our custodians.
but i have read saint stivs many posts on the subject of attendences.
he is obviously correct in the fact that the number given out by the club doesnt reflect how many have actually turned up.
my opinion – and i reckon the opinion of most – is who gives a shit.
but there seems to be a sub-text to some of his comments that there are deliberately 1000 or so tickets that celtic hold back inside the stadium and remain unsold even when the game is officially sold out.
im just not having that im afraid
Will be amazed if MO’R still here when the window closes. The model dictates this is the perfect time to sell. We should look for £30M for a top player.
I’m preparing for a last minute sale to a Liverpool or such like, followed quickly by a ‘sorry, too late to replace him’ gas lighting missive from the Tory Board.
Still, fantastic to hoard all that cash eh?
Celtic claiming that the attendance at Celtic Park is bigger than the number actually at the game?
Desmond White will be spinning in his grave.
Or his urn will be revolving on the mantelpiece if he was cremated.

Aston Villa
That’s why it would be ridiculous to sell Matt in this window.
Onana was showcased in this year’s Euros
If Matt has a good UCL campaign his price rockets and the world is his oyster…
Jota trebled his value by scoring a freekick in the Bernabéu…
TINYTIM @ 12:38 PM,
I too have no recollection of Matt voicing his disappointment.
Not saying it didn’t happen, his dip in form suggested a conflicted player.
Just didn’t see it… he signed a new contract in October and no doubt sell on timing and fees were discussed then, a loan in January seems a bizarre outcome.
Hail Hail

Onana wasnt showcased in the Euros. Theres been loads of interest in him from EPL clubs for a while, Arsenal were heavily linked with him in January.
Villa just sold Douglas Luis and 2 other central midfielders for 65m so they have the m money and can stay within the spending regs, the 50m Everton were asking for him was too much for Arsenal.
We are a fantastically successful club at selling our best players. We also seem to get a good price for them.
Perhaps, those who are in charge of selling, could brief those in charge of buying as we seem comparatively crap at this end.
Ah well, maintaining in the new strengthening.
So we’re crap at signing players but fantastic at selling them??
CELTIC40ME @ 4:18 PM,
Yes, Clubs dont pay out €50 mn for players because of one tournament, yet it can boost the value of a player when they compete at the highest level.
Onana wasn’t worth €50 mn in January but he is now…

It can but it didnt – its a valid point about Matt and the Champions League but EPL clubs judge players on how they do in the EPL above anything else. He wasnt a standout in a pretty average Belgium team.
Onana wasn’t worth €50 mn in January but he is now…
Villa paid £50m for him now because he’s replacing Douglas Luis who Villa sold for a similar amount earlier this window. Arsenal wanted him as a replacement for Partay in January but baulked at the transfer fee because it would have pushed them beyond the spending regs limits.
Everton had set the fee at £50m back in January
We should be telling interested clubs,it’s a minimum £25 million, so dont waste time with a 2nd offer of €14 million, do we only do 1 transfer at a time?

Does anyone know what AN ERROR OF JUDGEMENT is in EQUESTRIAN talk.
I think she has battered a horse.
My wife thinks she battered a student.
My reply was that nobody in EQUESTRIAN community would bother if it was a human that she had assaulted.
Glenowen…………Both Celtic and Rangers have a pretty good record against teams from Portugal but their top sides Benfica and Porto sell players every season for enormous money but they replace them with as good from South America. I’ve read that those clubs have excellent coaching systems hovering some of the best young players from that continent.
I would hope we can keep Mat O’Riley for another season and watch him impress against some the elite in Europe………if not, the nothing less than 35 million going price.
What about you JOE you sound like a well educated connected FELLOW.

I missed the story. Who made the error of judgement?
Empty seats ….My seat might be empty against Kilmarnock…I’ll be in God’s own ( Dungloe, Donegal ) it might get taken up but 150 mile round trip on a Sunday night might squash enthusiasm …people I know share seats ( not meant to happen but does) sometimes one might not be able to go and the other has already made plane because it’s not their turn …I’d imagine Holidays will be the main reason people might miss a week on Sun + ridiculous KO time

Thanks.
You do wonder if the FFP rules are starting to put a bit of a reset on transfer fees.
It kind of feels like within the EPL it’s still mental, but outside England the fees are becoming a bit more reasonable (with a bit of yoyo-ing).
Fact is the ol’ horse never seems to get a fair crack of the whip

Hi Bhoys ,
Apologies .My memory of what Matt O’Riley said was wrong .
He didn’t say that he was unhappy ,he said that it made him feel under pressure and that it affected his performances.

I still think that him and his agent will be disappointed if he doesn’t get a big money move to a top 5 euro league this summer .
It’s only human nature .
TT
If we get big money for Matt is a move for McTominay totally out of the question .
?

full back anf a midfielder incoming.
McTominay on about 60-70k a week
Our ticket sale for the Kilmarnock game was interupted by the global CrowdStrike software issue which impacted many of us, however I see now all available tickets have been sold.
If demand has exceeded supply then i feel sorry for those who have tried and failed to get tickets.
However to those who have not made the effort and still moan about empty seats, then i say get a life.😀
