O’Riley and Atalanta’s ceiling

250

With four years left on Matt O’Riley’s contract, Celtic can afford to reject any offer which falls below their valuation.  Atalanta’s reported bid of around £14.5m was not expected to be accepted.  The Italian club know that Celtic can afford to wait until late in the window in the hope of attracting others to the table, before they need to seriously consider selling.  £14.5m was just an opener – we all know how the game works for players in demand.

Atalanta’s highest spend on a player is £25m (€29m).  That matches what Atletico Madrid were prepared to bid for Matt in January, which has established a value for the player.

There is every chance he will move this summer, but Celtic’s aspirations and Atalanta’s ceiling means he might not see a lot of Bergamo in the season ahead.  In the meantime, let’s hope we get to keep the player for another year at least.

  1. I am probably alone in this sentiment, but I am really pissed off with our clubs board. Who IS the director of football and just how much clout does Brendan actually have, very little in my book sadly.

My personal opinion of the board , cant swear on here, an absolute disgrace, just taking the piss constantly, and we, the mugs, go along with it.

two weeks before our first game , we have no , yes, no outfield signings.

    Seriously pissed off

  2. CELTIC40ME @ 4:48 PM,

Of course, I’ll bow to your greater knowledge of Onana…

However, all Celtic’s most expensive exports have featured in the UCL.

As you say, the English Clubs can look at the players performances in the EPL or Teir 1 leagues.

In Scotland they will look at what you can produce against the quality UCL teams.

    Hail Hail

    I was thinking of a loan .

It was rumoured that BR wanted to bring him to Celtic on loan during his last stint as manager .

“However, all Celtic’s most expensive exports have featured in the UCL.”

Funnily enough only half of our top ten sales have, but it’s a fair point, it’s the best shop window for our youngsters

We’d all like to see him stay for at least another year, but Michael Nicholson will be mindful of what being a year nearer 25 will mean for his transfer value, and Matt will probably understand what that will mean for his chances of a move to a big club. And for his international aspirations.

Personally I’d be happy to see him stay his entire career at Celtic but him and his parents obviously have a plan so his move and it’s timing needs to be carefully thought through by everybody

  5. See them that are sharing a seat , why doesn’t one of them just move to the nearest empty seat , surely that’s more comfortable than sharing …😁😉😂

  6. CELTIC40ME @ 8:41 PM,

Well, every €20 mn + player has featured in the UCL…

    Matt O’Riley should be a €25 mn + player…

Celtic claiming that the attendance at Celtic Park is bigger than the number actually at the game?

Desmond White will be spinning in his grave.

Or his urn will be revolving on the mantelpiece if he was cremated.

    ——-

I’d heard he’d been hurriedly cremated GGH.

Apparently he had a burial plot in mind in a section of a cemetery which officially had 33 deceased people in it but the actual number was 45 …. so no space for DW.

If we get big money for Matt is a move for McTominay totally out of the question .

The comments mocking the death of the late Desmond White are totally disgusting and not worthy of the blog.

    Au contraire

Not every ‘quality’ player is suddenly earning 70K in every league in Europe or Worldwide, there’s a data base full of quality players that would happily play for Celtic, for a lot less than mental EPL wages. This is especially so, with the new CL format.

BR is repeating the old MON narrative, everything is so hard for poor wee Celtic. Not so poor nowadays conditioning the support to expect less, despite generational wealth gathering dust.Tell them the ST price hike was in line with inflation and the cost of living.
