There are lots of difficult jobs in football but right up there is being the person who needs to tell a baying mob that the club needs to live within its means, ask Fergus, or Peter. Baying mobs are under no obligation to read financial information, they are not answerable to the consequences of their demands. If they are subsequently proven to be wrong, they will not even think back to their baying days.
Over the summer, a friend suggested that then-Newco chairman John Bennett had finally stepped up to the mark. When interviewed he mentioned “sustainability” (or a variant, like unsustainable) no fewer than five times. He even asserted, “Football clubs are really good at spending other people’s money”.
Sustainability is the goal-den word in football; it can cost you trophies in the short-term, when a lemming club edges closer to the cliff, but the future is yours, if you can cope with the baying mob.
The mob got too much for Bennett, all that talk of sustainability is for the birds now. Instead, the mob have a cheerleader shouting for £50m of other people’s money to be spent to compensate for whatever inadequacies inflict their lives. The cheerleader is not offering a penny, he too wants to spend other people’s money.
Facing the media yesterday, interim chairman, John Gilligan was on to a hiding to nothing. All he could do is talk about getting the right investment, adding, “it has to be the right [other]people”.
Most football clubs go decades without winning a major trophy. It is their lot; fans are still fans; they accept their place in the world. Celtic may never again win the Big One, but we are still fans and we can still dream.
The transition from being contenders to also-rans is difficult, ask fans of Aberdeen or Dundee United, but they cope and continue to support their team. Acceptance of reality is the key. You have fewer resources, you will win less, but you will appreciate those wins more when they come. Talk of other people’s money just adds to the distress.

14000 empty seats Sunday
Why don’t Celtic plc gift them to the foundation to distribute?
Is it just me or is the intent and the content of today’s leader, ostensibly aimed at Paul67’s favourite subject, (namely Rangers*) is more likely, at least in part, targeted at those incalcitrant (or should that be recalcitrant) Celtic supporters who, sometimes with good reason, have the audacity to criticise the Board or key members thereof. As for those who actually read the financial information provided by this or that Board, some of us might find said info a little lacking in detail, particularly where the operating costs are concerned. Even in the twelve page executive summary, available on the official Celtic website, there is no real breakdown of these costs, some £105 million, a figure that even merited a word of concern from our Host. Now these are not the financial statements to be sent out to shareholders or registry of companies of course, but could it be that hidden within, our very own ‘major investors’ are benefiting unduly from the efforts of others and or from investments that could and should have long been converted to the status of the vast majority of ‘ordinary’ shareholders? I do believe it could.
Atalanta 1 Como 3, 78 minutes
St Stivers
I find it hard to believe there were 14000 empty seats on Sunday. It certainly felt well over 50000. It is a pity something could not be done about it. That said the pricing was not crazy expensive either.
Atalanta Dortmund Brugge Zagreb all lose
Leipzig draw with bottom team
Villa win in last minute
Young Boys get first win in 7 games v bottom team
Not so very good results overall for Celtic’s upcoming opponents in the CL.
Just saw Duran from Villa trip himself, con the referee and then celebrate scoring the penalty. No shame what so ever. He will need watching in our game against them.
Celtic Mac
If the cap fits then maybe he could be.
What are you suggesting re the money being spent ?
Loving these Celtic times.
We are now looking down on folk…for what they wear?
We are a truly snobbish, churlish, mean spirited,…bunch…of pretenders.
Pretentiously concerned about new rules in an off the books league…really?
The league is off the books because it condones one club….pretending to be another club.
But as a Celtic fan of the past, the counselling point is always…
“What did Brendan say about the dodgy penalty, offside goal, etc…?”
If Brendan says nothing…what then…call him a plant, coward, etc….?
If Sevco come into our league pretending to be Rangers…and the PLC…say nothing…where do we go to for clarity?
Phil the shill?
But worse than that….what if the PLC…did…deal with the Sevco are Rangers issue…but not in the way we would have expected?
What if the Brendan1 2016 psyop appointment…was indulged in…to let the PLC gauge the mood swings of Celtic fans…by judging the fans social media input…and discerning that the “Same Club Lie” burning issue…had dropped like a stone…and the Brendan1 psyop la la land streets filled with hoops wearing dancing circus monkeys had wiped the mindsets of 99.9% of Timdom.
What would the PLC sharks do with such information?
Would the great PLC custodians remind fans that –
[ “We need to be cautious before 2016-17 season ticket sales to see if there is going to be any rule bending to allow Sevco to pretend to be Rangers FC. and as a law abiding club we would not want Glasgow Celtic FC, or our magnificent law abiding supporters to be part of a law breaking league, if that is the outcome.
And to say that the Rangers FC crime scene is not this clubs business is wildly wrong, as innocent Celtic fans were cheated out of possibly 20+ trophies, and the Celtic fans are thee main victims of these crimes, as were other fans from other clubs.
And Celtic FC will NEVER condone innocent football fans being punished for the deeds of criminal directors, no matter who these fans support.” ? ]
I mean….
That would have been the approach of a Celtic FC directed by Robert Kelly or Desmond White, when Celtic FC was not a brand…or a shady mans toy…with so many dodgy backdoors…but a club who actually…stood for things, and were loved by many millions of gracious folk, for being such a club who’s light of dignity and principles were the corner stones of so many minds and hearts who saw Celtic FC as Ultimate Custodians of the righteous way forward for Underdogs.
But now we have a rich and aloof club who cut backroom deals to put old Rangers £49 ticket price from 2012….onto new club Sevco tickets in 2016…to play Celtic’s part in covering up the biggest sporting crime…and Celtic’s all-seated era fans…bought the £49 tickets and played their part in helping the PLC and Sevco to pull this bluff on yourselves…and you did so because you too are playthings for whoever [ Krankie Yestapo? ] made Celtic PLC go along with covering up this great crime.
Jill Dando would have prosecuted this mess and its lightweight pretentious actors with unforgiving accuracy.

Post a detailed breakdown of our operating costs, if not now then later….
I had a very interesting comment on fsr just zapped , I’ll need to download the duck thingy !
Auldheid, Celtic40Me and others…..
You didn’t hijack my question. You provided answers and context that has been quite beneficial to all of us.
Next weeks exam: Amortization (For those who were here when CQN began…..:)
Weeron
Re FSR , helicopter view , surely it’s in the clubs interest to keep as much of the detailed cost breakdown away from public glare , as this is essentially commercially sensitive information.
What we require for FSR ( I’m assuming now ) is to complete. uEFA proforma that will provide the necessary breakdown and for the club to reconcile these details back to published accounts. Assuming that UEFA can be trusted to keep all this info in house.
Seems pretty straightforward approach

Wasn’t the “Gilligan dissed Dermott at Hampden” narrative debunked a few years ago?
we really should have a laugh at the huns in ra world media section
– new debenture stand has the best limited views for ra best limited peoples
– naismith got sacked (lol)
– hummel get back at rangers by outfitting gilligan with a new suit, shirt, tie and brogues
– king demand rangers spend ra cash. but not his
And last but not least, the hills have eyes advise ra scoddish meedja – they are not running around like zombies
da dah dah da da etc etc
This is just one week
brilliant…..
best limited peoples was a dig at the huns and their limited views
Not, as I understand now, that it is a stand aimed at the disabled….

Good morning from a dry but overcast North Staffs.
Noted that Atalanta lost at home to Como last night. Como’s first win this season after 5 games. Now managed by Cesc Fabragas.

A Convent with a Brewery?
This made me laugh 😂, as I think that The rangers already have a similar end-product to Buckfast! 👍🇮🇪🍀💚
Good morning all from a dry but chilly Garngad.
Nurse this morning again to look at wound/scar as its taken longer to heal as they left a stitch in. Now nearly healed and exercising like a maniac.
Now onto footy, so Lenny said he would be open to taking Hearts job….you have got to be at it Lenny.
D. :)
Good morning all from Govanhill. Perth races today, scalp the bookies. That’s the plan anyway.
Morning, all.
Freezing here, although the sun is shining brightly and some trees are still clothed in green.
a wee aside
I was on the flight on Hearts game Sat 14th from DUB to GLA that was cancelled ( I’m in aviation, so ran away to the pub in Dublin for the game as i knew it was fecked)
Aer Lingus have paid out on the flight refund and have said they will pay out the standard legal €250 compo. Not a bad result (Ryanair flight back was only €49)
If anyone else was on this flight and hasn’t claimed, get on the website for the compo button and read bottom of email on cancellation.
hail hail
David 66,
NFL for the Hearts job. A novel idea.
But not out of the question i don’t know the appointment process at Hearts but they are basically community owned i believe. Their fan ownership model provides a lot of help and charity for the local community. They have a good stadium and potential.
Yes, we all know the historical problems. Attacks at Tynecastle, his Celticness and his Hibs connection.
I remember vividly staying in Aberdeen years ago when a group of Hearts supporters were there.
The bigotry, racism and sectarianism was off the scale. In fact probably the worst i have ever heard.
But racism, bigotry and sectarianism is well and truly on the decline. Modern Scotland is increasingly secular with the dinosaurs aging and declining.
The only real question is:- Could NFL do a job for them. And what a kick in the nuts to the näthandels if he could.
Times have changed, and are still changing. We all need to get rid of the antiquated ideologys that were very real in earlier times.
I do not believe Jock Stein was universally welcomed by all and sundry at Parkhead. But he proved the doubtors and indeed some dinosaurs totally wrong. ( In fact some treated him dreadfully at the end up, but that is for another day )
Cheers and HH.

“I do not believe Jock Stein was universally welcomed by all and sundry at Parkhead.”
Do you mean The Board or are you including some supporters?

Who is prompting this idea of NFL for Hearts?
Not a novel idea I agree,a bit of press spite and manipulation would be more accurate! This suggestion would get more coverage than his initial assault in full public glare that was found not guilty in Scottish courts.
How romantic a version that we Scots are more secular,I don’t know an orange bigot who goes near a kirk or Presbyterian church, they don’t.They are simply anti Catholic, anti Irish bigots with an irrational hatred of both with no practice of any faith on their part.
Do show where racism and sectarianism is in decline? The bigots still bang their drum outside Catholic places of worship, what if they were to do the same outside Mosques or Synagogues? How would that be viewed?
Times have not changed to much Gp,my above post from yesterday’s Human rights council shows we still have loads of work to do.
Your use of Jock Stein is wrong, totally,he was welcomed back, especially to work with many of the young players he brought thro before heading to Dunfermnline.the same meeja who farted out this NFL dirge were spraying their bigotry and division with their 1st noncatholic manager crap.Jock was in charges,Bob’s dithering with Celtic stopped.
Jock only proved the sinister press wrong Gp,no one else, the bigotry was as big then as it is today.
Do read that whole HRC thread it denotes the size of the job at hand.its fantasy NFL would go there imo,his Irish Catholic background would be a problem for the sectarian vomiters in their own stands.

new article posted.
AT,
My post was a reply to David 66 @ 07.35 hrs.
You would need to ask David where he got that possible scenario from.
Surely you must know that modern Scotland is increasingly secular. That information is everywhere, so I will not post a link
We are a changed and rapidly changing society .
HS : When Jock initally arrived at Parkhead his appointment was underwhelming.
Cheers and HH.
Gp
As David says Lenny or Press are at it
I suspect press.
I agree Scotland is more secular,as I said still the anti Irish, anti Catholic bigotry persists, still alongside the Saturday bigots ar ibrox, tynecastle has there fair share. The bigotry goes on,call it out.
We would do if it were outside Mosque or Synagogue,if we were a rapidly changing society then the human right council would not be needed for Scotlands first immigrants.
Gp- to the old school I know it was a welcome appointment, the view of Scottish media was particularly underwhelming,ie focus on 1st Catholic to manage us,nothing said of his impact on Dunfermnline which served them til the late 60s.
