Other Scottish clubs would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist

1234

There comes a time during any endeavour when you have to ask, is this worth all the hassle?  News revealed by Phil MacGiollabhain last week and swiftly picked up by the newspapers today that an SFA executive has had his life threatened for what some regard as holding a firm line on application of the game’s rules, are one of these occasions.

This is sport, it is not the struggle against apartheid.  It really, really, isn’t worth putting your life on the line for.

The SFA executive who received the threat has not been named but he will hopefully find a degree of fortitude in the face of such intimidation.  We have called for resignations from the SFA but not under these circumstances.  If the recipient of the threat continues to work as normal they should be commended for their bravery.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to put football back on solid ground but whatever our game looks like in future, it must take on a different face.  Ordinary football fans want their sport back, a sport where honesty and endeavour can be rewarded by success on the field.

That will have consequences for us.  Celtic are far too powerful for any other club in Scotland to genuinely compete.  35 of our 41 clubs figured out they can do without Rangers and 34 of them know they can do without Celtic too.

They should remind Sevco rules are there for a reason and tell Celtic to stop mumbling about finding another league to play in and go do something about it.  I could not be more convinced that every other club in Scotland would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist.

Question is, do the rest of the clubs have the balls to do something about it?  Is the ‘Arab Spring in Scottish football’ over, or does it still have another chapter?

I dont think its about homosexuality, irs about redefining tradition.

I can see that but if civil marriage isn’t proper marriage in the church’s eyes then surely the point becomes moot and there are lots of knickers getting in a twist for no reason?

  4. “It is the easiest thing in the world to be “modern”-G K Chesterton. The problem is that everyone wants to be “hip” and modern. Religion must follow suit to fit the needs of these “modernists”. I’m a semi-lapsed Catholic. Many things made me this way, especially the RC church in oor wee Ulster. They may not have been as bad as the Bishop of Kerry, who said “Hell is not hot enough nor Eternity long enough to roast them” of the Fenians, but they weren’t far off it.

Islam is a religion of violence still. It was born in violence, and the present day attitude of it’s militant wing is there for all to see. But, there’s not a chance of Wee Eck or anybody in the UK Parliament/Assemblies attacking it’s attitude to gay marriage or to women. They see the RC church as an Aunt Sally–Christianity teaches us to turn the other cheek, no matter how many times you get it slapped.

    Not for me, I’m afraid.

The issue of gay marriage is not an issue. It’s another way of attacking those people who still have that precious commodity, Faith. Don’t forget that the church also recognises that Man has Free Will. He can disregard church teaching, but the church reckons there is a price to pay.

I happen to think it a gimmick, a distraction for the morally vacant. Of course there are same-sex loving couples. They have the opportunity to be married in a registry office, which is as legally binding as a church wedding. Why do we need to see Elton and whoever else wants to disport themselves in a building that is sacred to it’s followers?

I would imagine an infinitesmal number of same-sex couples would want that bother. The bathers in public opinion, however will make sure it stays as a debate in the public forum. It’s a great way of showing your “modernity/hipness/coolness/right-onness” without taking any risks.

Meanwhile could I have a centrehalf and a big mad goalscorer please?

Thoughts and prays for a Celtic Fan Kyle Whyte Fights for his Life in Amsterdam

On Sunday out in Amsterdam, Kyle woke up not being able to feel his legs and as the day progressed was struggling to breathe and complained of chest pains. We took him to the airport medical wing where they quickly informed us he would be flying home. Kyle is anaemic and has had bone marrow transplants previously, and is now sitting on a life support machine unable to breathe by himself. Currently he isnt responding to medication but everyone is confident he will win this fight

I’m not church-bashing, and I’m not anti-Catholic. I said earlier that I envy my family and friends their faith. I envy you your faith and I respect it. But…

I thought the act of sex between two men was deemed by the Church a mortal sin, which to me is ‘discriminating against homosexuals’.

I don’t think it is a question of changing the rules to court popularity. It is about passing on Christ’s teachings. To me, Christ’s teachings are love, tolerance and compassion.

And the Church has been changing for 2000 years. If it hadn’t, the services would be in Aramaic with no women present.

‘most animals have sex to procreate…’

The whole point is that we are not animals.

  10. Jeg,

Does the church not also teach that sex between heterosexuals outside of marriage is also a mortal sin? Are they therefore discriminating against heterosexuals also?
