There comes a time during any endeavour when you have to ask, is this worth all the hassle? News revealed by Phil MacGiollabhain last week and swiftly picked up by the newspapers today that an SFA executive has had his life threatened for what some regard as holding a firm line on application of the game’s rules, are one of these occasions.
This is sport, it is not the struggle against apartheid. It really, really, isn’t worth putting your life on the line for.
The SFA executive who received the threat has not been named but he will hopefully find a degree of fortitude in the face of such intimidation. We have called for resignations from the SFA but not under these circumstances. If the recipient of the threat continues to work as normal they should be commended for their bravery.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to put football back on solid ground but whatever our game looks like in future, it must take on a different face. Ordinary football fans want their sport back, a sport where honesty and endeavour can be rewarded by success on the field.
That will have consequences for us. Celtic are far too powerful for any other club in Scotland to genuinely compete. 35 of our 41 clubs figured out they can do without Rangers and 34 of them know they can do without Celtic too.
They should remind Sevco rules are there for a reason and tell Celtic to stop mumbling about finding another league to play in and go do something about it. I could not be more convinced that every other club in Scotland would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist.
Question is, do the rest of the clubs have the balls to do something about it? Is the ‘Arab Spring in Scottish football’ over, or does it still have another chapter?

We will most probably draw Rangers is one of the cups this season and it will keep them afloat just a little longer. I just hope it is at Celtic Park.
Will be a record attendance for a game against a third division team.

Given the “probability” in that statement. It will certainly be at Ipox.

I share your concern’s m8.
I just wonder if, every level of the club will be subjected to the austere measure’s that have been mentioned ?
Of course by every level of the club I mean – Lawwell’s bonus ?
But, then again…..with 45k of SB’s being shifted then, a comfort zone has been created for the board/CEO etc. imo.
An awful catch-22 situation. imo.
Support yer team and, ensure the apathy at board level continue’s or, make a stand by – demanding that at least 3 first team ready players are recruited before buying the SB’s and, I think we would see ‘OUR’ team being built – season by season – to the requiste quality level that the Celtic support DESERVE to watch. imo
Livibhoy – congratulations to you, Mrs Livi & Charlie!!!
I’ll drink a toast to the 3 of you later.

I’m going for (a)
I suppose there is an argument to be made to UEFA that Celtic stuck in a Scottish league can only go in one shrinking direction taking the league with it.
Whereas a bold approach that would enliven the league left behind and the league joined makes sense.
Carpe diem stuff.
Some kind of guarantees would need to be provided of course but with an increased revenue stream some of that could be used as a sweetener.
Of course it might all be talk to warn the other clubs not to push Celtic too far , but released from Scotland there is growth potential, stuck in the existing tub there is none, possibly the reverse.

I have been a bit perplexed by your recent articles and how Scottish Football would be better off without Celtic. Never took you as one to ‘walk away’ either.
Just had an interesting conversation about Celtic doing some serious negotiating and have a deal ‘in principle’ to play in another League.
It all makes sense now…
sevco can argue they want titles of oldco retained i dont care because its a different club no matter what they wish to say. i was born in 1977, i cannot claim to have done anything before that date nor can sevco, i will never let them forget or blur the truth.
i am happy that celtic are looking to get better use from the academy its long overdue if truth be told. we have been guily of ignoring our young players for the quick fit first teamer who, more often than not, are no better than the one’s they replace. i have argued for some time celtic dont have the money to have so many first team players. give me 15 real quality players and then fill the first team squad with the most promising young players at the club.
do this and i bet we would have a least one good young player coming through the academy and into the first team every season. p.s. i dont buy into the idea you need a massive squad when i look around europe and see the biggest clubs and best players playing 60 + games a season.
i just wish we could get a larger league with more competition and more challenge from 3 or 4 clubs rather than everything revolving around celtic and what will be newco rangers, we have seen that this model has failed celtic, rangers and every other club in the country, its time to put football before money then let the money follow because the football generates greater interest.
Those who can’t attend Saturday’s game but want to see it will easily find it via Italian cyberspace .

Neil Lennon already stated that if they had not signed anyone on time to have a run out against Norwich he would go with what he has got for the HJK game.
I think people are seriously overestimating this Finnish mob. We will hump them next week.

time for change, me too.
ASonOfDan, I think we need to make the case for what is best for all of Scottish football.
Why would the SFA or any other governing body have a view on the proposed new title of the barely revived dead club?
Is this not a matter for the administrator/liquidator?

Cheers, the manager should have the players he wants for his first game.
Im concerned about that Helsinki 2 Schalke 0 result last year and our tendency to be over cautious in first leg home games but after watching Helsinki a bit last week it should … be ok.

Imagine the derision & insults that the MSM would have indulged in if the game had been played in Dublin, & it had been the Irish FA which had flown the hated S. Korean flag for the N.Korean Olympic squad.
Have you heard the one about the thick Irish ?
It could not have happened at a more appropriate place than Hampden.

Say no more. nudge, nudge ;) ;)
we will never play in another league. i hate all this stuff about us going to new pastures it aint happening i wanted it to happen 20 years ago and 10 years ago. where we play is often used as an excuse for our under preformances in european competition. the truth is there are clubs with less income than us making a better fist of it every season.
our biggest problem is our footballing lights being swithched off when it comes to growing our game and making it more succesful with short term interest always coming before long term ojectives. we have the highest crowds per head in europe watching football, and we manage to negotiate one of the poorest television deals, does that make sense to anyone? we had two of the biggest clubs in europe, now we have one are we getting bang for bucks? jesus we regularly get get beat by shite clubs with not even an 10th of our fan base and income, when participating in european competition. we have a league structure that is designed to make sure team play celtic and rangers four times a season, dont worry about the lack of comeptition that creates because use all get about 1 million pound for it, anyone see the problem?
we actually have a lot to offer in this country when it comes to football but i’d trust the guy who runs the local newsagents to understand and make a better fist of maxamising our potential and income
Sometimes it’s best to keep schtum Jack…

If you are happy to not get in the players we need and to watch what we have this season,I would say you are in the minority my friend.Of course it’s vital to bring through young home bred players but we need a bit of experience and class to progress this team, and try to make an impact in Europe IMO.HH.

How about taking your idea and coupling it with getting the 2nd team elected into divison 3. Logistically difficult I agree but faint heart and all that.

Can you imagine the trouble we’d get into if a former First Minister of Scotland and sitting House of Lords member thought Ireland was in the Commonwealth?
Estadio Nacional
I think back to the Europa League last season and the players definitely grew into that competition and played some good football. We did very well considering we were up against one of the best in Serie A and the future winners. A better rub of the Green and we might have got out that group.
Morning from a bright and sunny Wigan
