Odin Holm (21) was the player to miss out on the Champions League squad, announced yesterday. Last season he came on in defeats at Feyenoord and Atletico Madrid. A red card in Rotterdam, Celtic’s second of the night, is a symbol of the player’s first season in Scotland.
The last 12 months have largely been a write-off for Odin due to illness. Despite missing out on Europe, he made brief substitute appearances in the first three league games of the season.
Even through his travails last season, we saw enough to know there is potential in Odin. It is Celtic’s duty to develop that potential. Once we are past the international breaks, the fixture schedule ahead is packed. Playing in a supposedly weak league should provide ample opportunity to rest those playing in the Champions League while developing the likes of Odin.
My apologies, there is a fault with the advert generator today. We’re on it.

Just back. Thanks for your advice earlier.
I’ve just had a look on the UEFA website at the CL fixtures. I’ve got it all wrong. I was on holiday when the draw was made and missed it. I was under the impression that all the teams in the group played each other in a round robin as per the old system.
I’ve just noticed that Leipzig only play us and Villa from our group. They’ve got very difficult opponents too Liverpool, Juve, Inter and Athletico as well as Sporting and Sturm Graz. I think we have a better chance of making the play off round than them.
some celtic supporting maths wizz has worked out that celtic did actually get the best draw from all 36 competitors.
here hoping.
Odin was obviously scouted by Mark Lawwell to meet Agnes requirements. Brendan has him well down the pecking order
No surprise to see him omitted from the CL Squad. Given the rules of. 8 Scottish trained youth players then he was omitted as an overseas player. Not a good look.
We need another 1 or 2 Scottish players. Are there any good enough. Who could we sign who would get a game for us?
Odin had the last kick of the …… Todd Cantwell at the 1-0 game at Ibrox last season when Kyogo scored the winner. Todd was on the sidelines for about eight weeks.

Maybe the number should be lower, given we’re far smaller population than e.g. England.
Getting down to the nitty gritty of the CL, Brendan has a difficult problem to solve. We have a wonderful captain who is a terrific player for us – Callum. However, over the last couple of seasons Callum has been responsible for a number of howlers that have cost us goals and CL points. Two seasons ago against Donetsk in Poland he dived into a challenge which he was never going to win. The ball was played to Mudryk on the left who raced toward goal to smash it high into our net. Against Leipzig he gave away possession with a poor pass by passing straight to an opponent and the ball was quickly dispatched into our net. Against Athletico in Madrid his poor downward defensive header went straight to an Athleti player and again we lost an immediate goal.
It’s absolutely crucial that these errors are not repeated if we are to have any chance of progress. We now have a much stronger squad but at the moment Valle hasn’t kicked a ball for us and only has one game to do so before the Slovan game. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t strengthen earlier so that our new recruits could have been integrated into the squad. The other thing that’s a concern is that we must avoid the cheap red cards that killed us last season.

Scully – that takes me back – I was there , twelve years of age! One of the greatest nights I have ever experienced (in football at any rate 😀)
Something that will never happen again – 15 Scottish players involved in a European Cup semi-final
What the hell has happened?
Bit of a page filler lead there from P67. Not much going on during the International break. I don’t see that Celtic have any obligation or duty to develop Holm. He is offered the same facilities as everyone else and he needs to work hard in training to earn some first 11 game time. Then he has to perform. No different to anyone else at the club. I believe the bhoy has a lot of talent and that BR will get him to the point where he benefits us – that could be a good sized fee, or as a contributor on the park. All down to him.
On a separate note, I think VAR would be greatly simplified by using the players feet position when the forward pass is made. It would be much easier to measure and we would do away with the nonsense of manual measurements and line drawing from shoulders or any other body part to the ground. The decision on Kuhn at the weekend was ridiculous – it was clear that his feet were well inside the defenders and that he was barely leaning forward. Then the lines were pretty much drawn on top of each other making them level. The VAR brain trust were lucky we won the game handsomely otherwise there would still be uproar.
Evening all. Can’t get on CQN on my tablet because of adverts. I’ve found it hard enough on my desktop for the last year or so but this is every bit as bad.
Have I pressed some button to have produced this nonsense?
Personally am not reading too much into Odin’s omission from the CL squad.
It’s a numbers game.
No offence to Adam Montgomery but he is there largely to make up the numbers.
I’d be surprised if he gets any game time.
Odin gas time on his side to develop.
If Brendan didn’t want him a loan for someone of his pedigree would have been fairly easy to arrange.
Same applies to Maik.
Luke is interesting. If we hadn’t signed him we’d have had to go with another kid in midfield for CL squad.
In reality that would have left us with 4 midfielders, Calum, Reo, Paulo and Arne.
Too few.
I suspect Brendan is dusting down his Johnny Hayes playback for Luke.
Older guy (not as old as Hayes) who we can acquire relatively cheaply, I can coach, he can deliver value commensurate with the cost of employing him.
“Second choice” midfield three currently?
Engels – Holm – McCowan.
On paper not bad at all.
Typo – playbook
Didn’t know the Scotland game was on ITV4 👍
This guy 🤡
He’s not giving up

At the risk of being too lazy to check myself can someone explain what this Nations League is about and what
, realistically , does it offer Scotland ?
Is there an enhanced route to the WC if we do well?
Player of the year in Norway when we signed him.Think youngest ever.No prospect this boy.Brendan has already says he likes him.We will see him this season.
Odin Holm IS a player, no doubt in my mind, plus he has a bit of dig, I like that.

How long before they start laying in to Tony Ralston again.
i chanced across a podcast today called THIS IS IBROX.
suprised by the content as the hosts went after their club/board/players/captain/edminston house/ the crane driver / clement / alex rae and peter lawwell.
but the suprise, they all admitted, their offisde chances are not chances, they were in the game for 10 minutes, celtic are in every department better, mcgregor is a great player, as are johnston, scales, taylor, all the japanese, kyog might be worldclaa, but butland might as well have a big finger foam cushion poining down to his left, even our supposed rubbish players are better than theirs and our model means we pull away.
they were shamed, broken and harmed.
if only the germans had a word for it,
great listening, i might add it to my favourites
Some very nice play there from Tony.
McCann must have popped to the loo and missed it because he didn’t say a word about it🤔
I think the penny’s dropping SS
“I didn’t believe it was the right place for me to be” 💬
Todd Cantwell speaks about his time at Rangers and why he chose to leave for a return to the Championship ⬇️
Ralston gives away a penalty,he really is a bad right back ,Poland 2up at half time.
Holm , Engels , McCowan Bernardo are the future .
One will take Callums place .
Looks very promising to me especially if they turn out to be the players our recruitment team think can be .
but then they’d have to take on board the full implications of liquidation although they are saying they need new investment
Bit of a travesty ,the score here.Scotland playing very well,in a very entertaining first half.Poland some lovely footballers.Ralston been outstanding,a bit unlucky with the penalty.Great back up for us.Robertson,Christie,Mc Tominey all good, but our normal problem,no top class striker, haunts us again.

Can I use a sweary word?
This is pish.
The outcome is predetermined (similar to McCann’s commentary on a Scotland match)
Diomande good / Dessers bad ….
… then a paucity of evidence is used to justify the stance.
Timbhoy163 – is this the first time you’ve been on since Sunday😂
Tony had an excellent first half and I’m pleased these international games give him game time.
Marsala,
Total agreement about our future midfield, but dont retire Calmac yet.Think he can play at this level for another 3 years.
The futures bright.
Whod a thunk it.?Turns out Danilo does not walk like a Basil Fawlty character after all.He is injured again !!!!.
That Hun manager is an absolute buffoon.

GM – kept my powder dry during Euros.
During Switzerland game wonderboy Billy G overhit and misdirected a sideways pass to Ralston which went out for a throw in.
Not a huge error by Gilmour and no harm done.
McCann’s reaction – “Ralston could have been more alert there”
A few minutes later Callum McGregor set up Scott McTominay to score.
McCann’s analysis “He (McTominay) does brilliantly. The pass was hit too hard and was behind him”
These two small cameos sum up the Scottish Football Establishment mindset to a tee.
“The R2ngers guy can do no wrong”
“The Celtic guy can do no right”
