Our game in jeopardy. There are no words

548

Footballers may be our champions, but you probably have little idea the trouble that goes into getting some mundane, but not contracted, tasks completed.  There are exceptions, but the industry has a hierarchical system where the powerful (players) make sure their powerless colleagues (anyone else employed by the club who is not the coach or CEO) know their place in the food chain.  Even within the players group, the hierarchy is alive and well.

I have seen this with my own eyes going back as far as Martin O’Neill’s team and it can be brutal.  “Welcome to the club, son, now you better start acting like Beyonce”, seems to be how it goes.  We treat them like pampered superstars and they behave accordingly.  They certainly don’t need to worry about the people who ultimately pay their wages, because their wages are guaranteed, often for years.

Today, I feel resentment towards players as a group, which I know is unfair.  All the minor infractions I have been aware of over the years were brought to the surface by one major infraction.  That’s judging a group by the actions of a few, and we have names for that kind of thinking.  Better to remember Callum McGregor and Scott Brown reaching out to the dying.  Some players ‘get it’ and I am grateful for that.

The game in Scotland and Celtic’s European campaign is in jeopardy because of the actions of one Celtic player.  There are no words.  He can take a taxi back to the airport in two weeks.  Some others could do with a dose of humility, and learn to behave less like divas and more like respectful adults.

  1. Apparently Bolingoli flew to Spain to test his eyesight, even got a shot of piloting the plane.😉

    Yeah KissMyBottyAKALairdofSmiles :-) :-)

The only thing MBomboclot, has in common with an Airoplane, is what the ECU on the

Airoplane says, when the Airoplane has landed on a runway, “Retard”

  3. Chairbhoy, You can’t be serious.

Celtic have a top class system in place, they have done all the right things in relation to Covid, the players were clearly instructed on what they could & couldn’t do, but Boli acted the total Bollix & unbelievably went off to Spain for a day.

It is absolutely unfair to blame the Club or any other individual connected to the Club for what Boli did.

It was stupid, selfish, almost criminal behaviour. He should and I have no doubt will be shown the door.

Griff was also out of order but I would put his lapse as a lesser breach and there are rumours that another one or two may have attended a party that they shouldn’t have,

No doubt if there is any truth in that, it will hit the pages next 24 hours.

Rich young men, misbehaving , doesn’t shock me but hopefully this whole incident will put manners on every footballer in Scotland.

Put the blame where it belongs on the individuals who break the rules,

  4. Hi Bhoys

So we get 2 games delayed till later in the season, were we apparently have no space to fit them in. I know the european tie has been given the go ahead, but what if we got thrown out. We would have plenty of gaps to fit them in. Most likely the huns will have at least a couple of european ties. So we could have at worst the same ammount of games to play as them, maybe even less.

So what do you think european ties with games jammed in everywhere or no european ties and games easily fitted in. I say forget europe get the magical 10. Opinions welcome. I’m not answering anyone by the way. Unless your cheeky.

  5. The_Huddle, Do you know what the Airoplanes ECU says when a Airoplane gets

to the required speed to take off (160 MPH+) Answer:- “Rotate”

Do you know what a Glide Path Is? & when the Glide Path comes into effect?

  6. THE_HUDDLE @ 6:26 PM,

I’ve had well over a dozen tests, yet each and every day we get reinformed and guidance, it seems that every other day we get a “form” or questionaire or request.

Let me try to explain it a different way…

Q: Who gave an undertaking to the Scottish Government they would comply with the procedures and protocols?

    A: Celtic

Q: Who are responsible for enuring their employees comply with said procedures and protocols?

    A: Celtic

    Yes!!

Let me put it another, other way…

You and your mate Billy decide to go away for a mad weekend but you don’t have any money.

Billy has minus, minus zero credit rating so you go borrow 1K off your bank and give 500 of it to Billy on the understanding he will pay it back at the end of the month.

Billy doesn’t pay you back… skint – quelle surprise

You go to your Bank, pay your 500 back and explain what’s happened and tell them to get the rest of Billy…

    Yes or No?

Why is it so difficult to explain to CQNers what Corporate responsibility is.!?

    Hail Hail

I assume this now means it will be about October before Julien gets up to speed.

DeniaBhoy, Christopher Jullien, has to eliminate his too casual approach in Defence.

  10. Chairbhoy on 11th August 2020 6:49 pm

    —————-

The Scottish Government has only indirectly told it’s employees of the guidelines, they don’t do any other checks with regards Covid. It is left purely to the employee how/if they follow the guidance.

In the Scottish Government they haven’t even made their employees read and acknowledge the guidance, it’s only there if you go looking for it.

That’s thousands of employees in Scotland that aren’t being subjected to the checks you are being (by your employer).

I would assume the majority of employers in the UK aren’t doing what you assume should/is the minimum requirement.

It’s not feasible, there has to be individual responsibility.

  13. CORKCELT @ 6:42 PM,

Well that’s absolutely fine and I’m sure when Celtic took an undertaking to comply with the protocold they explained that managing footballers were like herding cats and they had no idea if they could manage it!!

    I’m deadly serious are you?

  14. Bankiebhoy- point taken.

Either way he has put peoples lifes at risk the fact he lied about where was as well bordering on criminal.

  15. Lots of people break rules, and sometimes connected with work. Players know the score. Their every move is likely to be noticed, photographed or filmed nowadays. Usually it’s of little consequence. Breaking lockdown or quarantine seem to be contrary to club rules. If that’s the case they should be penalised. (If not, they should be left alone) Each player’s actions should be assessed individually and if there are aggravating circumstances then the penalty needs to be greater, including dismissal if warranted. If there are mitigating circumstances the penalty should be lessened. Whatever happens, a bad situation should not be made worse by summary justice.

  16. Be as funny as you like Chairbhoy, there are times when Clubs get it wrong and Celtic are not immune to mistakes, but this one is not down to Club, Boli knew the rules and he deliberately broke them, he is sole;y to blame.

However it is a handy stick to beat the Club with if that is what rocks your boat.

  18. THE_HUDDLE @ 6:53 PM,

Yes, most employees aren’t under the rigours that I am, most emplyees aren’t working with extremely vulnerable people.

Of course it’s different for footballers as they don’t deal directly with a life safety risk. But their undertakings were equally as stringent and the consequences, although less dire, were hugely important.

Many artist, musician, theatre, hospitality friends I have would love to be afforded the opportunity football in Scotland got.

The resposibility for Scottish football is huge and they’re flunking the challenge… if it was down to the Bolingoli’s of the world, the go ahead would never have been given.

    Corkcelt… I think it’s funny… do my job for a day!!!

Picinisco, Footballer’s nowadays are meant to be Roll-Models.

MBomboclot, tried to hide his karma/activity, by going to a Country that is on the UK’s

fourteen days Quarantine List, to look @ signing for another Club on the Fly.

Then let not only our Club down, but also jeopardised the whole of Scottish Football

  21. CHAIRBHOY

You are too a very welcome and good poster on here.

I welcome a debate of different views.

However I hold Celtic FC ,Lennon and Lawlell 100% blameless in this.

We have the extraordinary actions of one selfish, arrogant footballer to blame.

Celtic FC like most top football clubs would never dream of holding players passports in the club safe.

If that is what you suggest?

Or perhaps fitting them with ankle bracelets like prisoners on release tag?

Maybe personal security for every footballer?

No all of the above are a nonsense.

Nobody at Celtic would have dared dream that one of their own could be so mindfully ignorant and shameful towards the club and the rest of scottish football.

The fact is we have to take it on the chin and get on with it.

Of course the player in question will never kick a ball with us again.

The only debate is wether Celtic should complete right off a 2 million or so asset …or keep paying him after fines e.t.c to get a transfer fee.

Lennon and Lawell are not to blame and you should not be pointing the finger at them even slightly.

    Chairbhoy

You seem to have picked your corner and are determined to paint yourself in.

We live in a country where anyone is free to break the law – that’s just how it is.

You can argue about corporate culture till the cows come home but if someone is hell bent on doing something stupid or even criminal, that is their privilege.

To blame Peter Lawell for Boli’s transgression is taking finger pointing gymnastics to a whole new level.

  23. A lot of angst on here today and not a lot of facts…

One of the things I love about our club is the way they have handled the Leigh Griffiths situation with Love, support, consideration, patience, and understanding. None of these are much in evidence on here today…

2 facts we do know; he went to Spain and didn’t inform the club; and that’s it.

Someone on here suggested it was his mother’s birthday. Who knows, perhaps she was not well? I think most of us on here would say to our employer (or think it and find a devious way) “Sorry, but you are not stopping me from seeing my Mum!” Equally, if there was a strong and good reason to go, I think most of us on here would have negotiated some form of ‘Leave of Absence’ with our employer and agree to 2 weeks self-isolation on return, perhaps without wages as we would be unavailable?

Speculation on my part yes, but I think Boli is probably guilty of being naive at best, or more likely, a complete *** (insert your own preferred pejorative description). There are many clever people on here, but I wonder how many of us on here have said at some point in our younger lives “How could I have been SO stupid?”… Not learning and recovering is the really stupid thing.

Someone else on here queried on here how Jock Stein might have handled this situation? 🤔. Jimmy Johnstone was afraid of big Jock, but it didn’t stop him from being a **** at times.

I for one will refrain from crucifying Boli on here, leave it to the Club to deal with it, support Boli if he ever plays for us again, and most of all remember who the REAL enemies are. (Covid-19 is one, I’m sure you know the other.)

    Yours in Celtic,

Struggling to understand why the Club are being slated by some.

The players were given 2 days off in what was there only midweek without a game this year.

One 25 year old, not a child or inexperienced youngster decided to ignore all the instructions given by the club and concealed his deception until he was confronted by the club.

The club now will follow a disciplinary process to ensure there is no comeback and he will be sacked or transfer listed and he absolutely deserves all that is coming his way.

My concern about the situation is the cancellation of the games, which appears to have no basis in science but rather a bit of grandstanding and playing to the gallery by the government, because otherwise Kilmarnocks games would also be off, if health protection was at the root of the decision. T
