Our great times and our fantasies

206

Telfer, McManus, O’Dea, Naylor. That’s the Celtic defence who took Milan to extra time without conceding a goal in regulation time in either leg in 2007.

We won a corner in the last minute of the 90 that night. After two intense games, we had earned the right to load their box and take our chance. That’s how close Gordon Strachan came to taking Celtic to the Champions League quarterfinals, at the expense of Milan, who won the tournament that year.

In 2012, Neil Lennon’s Celtic played perhaps the greatest con dude ever in 2012, losing only to an injury time goal in Barcelona and winning at Celtic Park.

In 2003 I remember World Soccer’s report on the Uefa Cup Final. Apparently the better team won as Celtic relied on being compact and robust to take the game to extra time.

These are some of our greatest times. They will never return until we drop our fantasies.

Probably three of the ugliest strippers you have had the misfortune to see.

Well you know what’s coming, don’t you. You Happy Clappers can make up all the excuses you like, and you will, but this guy is hopeless. Completely hopeless. Tactics were suicidal again, just like v Benfica, and he didn’t fix anything that went wrong. He brought Dowell on! Philippe Clement doesn’t have the slightest idea what he is doing. 0

“C40me What does the above suggest about the aspirations of those who appointed Brendan Rogers?”

I wouldnt know who appointed him and what the process was, but my guess is that its pretty simple, he/they thought he was the best available for the whole job at the time.

Another guess is that part of the conversation included progress in Europe, he certainly talked about it after he rejoined in a way he hadn’t necessarily before

I still think he was/is the best available football manager. I think he’s young enough and intelligent enough to change, but if we are to fulfil our potential in Europe and for him to create the legacy he’s after he has to start doing something different now.

That means managing the football team, not involving himself in the business or the operations of the club

    /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

    Hi C40me

    Ans1

You outlined in above answer which i asked my question from,Brendans pedigree in Europe with us first time,Liverpool & Leicester as well as a view on those clubs he played who commonly filled England top4 at that time Chelsea/Arsenal/ManU&Liverpool.

Now I asked what are the aspirations of those who appointed BR,our boars, given the record that you outline it would suggest domestic success is fine, our main aspiration, then hopefully go on and do something in Europe.

You’d be right that he was the best fit, that we know of at that time,we were quick of mark to get him in and knew their would be gremlins in the Celtic machine as we changed tactically from Ange to Brendan, the fruits of which we have seen in great football this season.

2 I think he is a good manager too,I hope to God he has the intelligence and nous to alter us tactically and I am sure he will learn from Tuesdays result,he must, otherwise we shall get wrecked again and that could be demoralising on the front of attracting players to us.

To me he has started to build that legacy with signings like Idah and Engels, following on from him chatting of growing the model, instead of buying 2m selling 10m well buy 10or11m and sell for 35 or 40m,I hope this growth and spending continues in the windows and that we can continually reach Champions League as it would enable us to change the nexus of our budget from domestic to European league(I am maybe dreaming that this CL format will grow, more fixtures meanin more revenue) This aspiration would take away the dilemma of Scotland(ie shite league).

3 On your 3rd point re managing the football team,I believe BR does that professionally and to his best(as long as he learns)his success at this point in Celtics history are pivotal to our clubs future business and general operations.

I would like to see BR take a directors role,of football maybe, ensuring whoever comes in next has a different level ‘project’ tag,we as fans are used to the market place, the comings and goings, but we want to see improvement against the best and that’s in Europe, hopefully Engels denotes a change, not only in tfer value but the first of many, and with more to come aspirations may be met.

Anyway Ross Co next,Atalanta soon let’s get to work.
