Our major events venue, Adidas backfire, KR nerves

628

Despite their mid-season status, KR Reykjavik should offer little genuine challenge to Celtic’s squad of Champions League experienced professionals.  Still, the nerves tingle a little seeing a new management team lead the squad out of Glasgow Airport this morning.

Hopefully we have six qualifying games ahead.  Where we sit right now, chances of qualification are high, but far from assured.  There is a lot of work ahead.

It will be fantastic to see Martin O’Neill back at Celtic Park to lead Ireland against Scotland in the nations’ Euro 2016 qualifier.  Seeing the traditional away side of the stadium covered in green, while Scotland fans occupy the bulk of the stadium, will provide an interesting photo opportunity.  Apart from the ‘doe a dear’ lot, it’s likely to be a wall-to wall Celtic fan event.  Good to see Roy Keane back too.  In the away dug-out.

Hosting Scotland-England a few days later will cement the stadium’s position as a major event venue after a year of unique opportunities.

One of Adidas’ World Cup sponsor properties was to name and present Player and Goalkeeper of the Tournament.  What could go wrong?  Dragging the Adidas-sponsored and clearly embarrassed Lionel Messi up the stairs to receive his award looked contrived.  Despite reaching the final and, at last, building a World Cup goals tally worthy of comment (5 across 3 tournaments), Leo wasn’t even Argentina’s best player.

These awards are subjective, so there are no right or wrong decisions, but this one brought Adidas derision.

Delighted for Germany. The demographics are moving against European football but the continental game has never been as strong.

Many thanks to everyone who bid on the auction or bought a raffle ticket for the signed canvasses last week.  The raffle raised £604 and was won by CQN legend, Kolnbhoy.  Funds from both canvasses are going to Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookie Jar Foundation.

While you’re not aff oot. I asked you the day what you’d like have seen the board do ref rfc rip and Deidco. Specifically what options you reckon were open to CFC and what specific actions you’d like to have seen them take – then, now, immediate future.

And no2 if I may? Ideally where would you like us to be playing in 5 years time? England, euro league. And/but where do you think we will be playing?

Genuine questions. No ulterior motive. Just I have a clear notion of what you’re agin’. Would like to get a sense of what you’re ‘for’.

Celtic to continue with Safe Standing application and update supporters on progress

    —————————————————————————————————————-

this safe standing application in turning into a farce

having worked in germany in the constuction industry and seen the building control regulations etc…….and for football stadiums safety for public use

the german regulation are way ahead of any uk requirement

a quick call or visit to dortmund or any other club with rail seating

you would have all the specification and data on how safe it would be if installed in

    a uk stadium

the company that makes the rail seats could even draw up plans etc

and could be a first major sale project in the uk

more and more like a police scotland issue every day

Celtic should have held a press conference to announce that….

…they would be ‘taking leave’ of football until FIFA/UEFA forensically

investigate the collusion that had seen the club ‘robbed’ of CL money

    for the – 2008/9 – 2009/10 – 2010/11 – seasons at what amount? £60 mill?

But, Celtic or, the Celtic PLC/’bored’ who are NOT Celtic, YOU are!!!

That is why Celtic’s ‘custodians’ of the present day, represent no-one but

    themselves.

If Celtic walked away from the game – the game would suffer a domino – effect.

But ‘that’ won’t happen cos, Celtic play by the rules of those who cheat them or,

    rather, cheat ‘YOU’. imho

A great mhan once said – “Next time, we wont play by ‘their’ rules, we’ll make up our own!”

The cowardly ‘bored’ will sit back and let their assorted plants amongst the

Internet Bampots – fight the fight.

Anyway, in 5 years time….Celtic will still be here, the EPL/SKY will have imploded by then

and, the game will have come ‘full – circle’ to the days before the arrival of the ‘beast.

SB’s will not be as popular as they are now, Celtic will be content to see some sort of

rivalry with the team that the ‘bored’ called – Rangers FC – at last seasons Glasgow Cup

    Final.

    Recommendations….

    3 O’clock kick-offs

    Cheaper standing areas

    Player wage-capping

    No alcohol at the fitba

Cup Finals and O## F### games to be shown ‘live’

canny think of anything else the noo?!?!

Oh, yeah….sign GMS fae Dundee Utd.

    laters….

  10. I woke up this morning thinking about Celtic, I may have been dreaming about the good times we had under Jock Stein, but it’s the first time I have woken up thinking about Celtic, could this be what happens after you pass your 75th birthday, I’m usually quite laid back regarding the start of another season. Could it be that the old mind is starting to play tricks with me ,Or is it the thought of having a manager that in talk, is attack minded, could it be that a new era is about to begin for us, let’s hope so.

Champions League football is the most unfair competition that anyone could imagine,It was much more fair when we conquered all before us in 67, those days are long gone, we have been priced out of fair competition by egotistical money men who want to see their names mentioned along with the team they have bought, funnily enough very few come from these isles,(could that be misconstrued as a racist comment) Although our Celtic has one of these owners who is the majority shareholder but he doesn’t want to go that little bit further and own our club, is he holding our club back, he could very well be holding us back.

Celtic have never been known to splash the cash in improving our lot amongst the big boys, we have a few million quid at hand, but rather than trying to improve our lot we are languishing in around 45th place in World football, Celtic seem happy with our lot at this moment in time.

Anyway this is the start of season 14/15, how far will we get in the Champions League qualifiers, past this round I hope. and then onwards and upwards Qualifying for the final 1n May 2015, wishful thinking, ye, that was part of the dream.

I often wake up thinking about Celtic but my dreams I keep for other things :-)

For me it’s about finding a balance. The thought of Celtic becoming a Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid or Man City etc horrifies me but I would like us to show greater ambition and that would require our owner to spend some cash and I don’t see him doing that.

I finally managed to get through to the ticket office to get a seat at murrayfield for my boy. The girl I spoke to says sales for non st holders has been very good and they have a big backlog of tickets to send out. Having said that, murrayfield is a big space to fill.

Just need to figure out the best way to get there now????

RD says its stupid that we have to start qualifying so early. And he is right.

But we do not need ready made excuses for the players, like Brazil carrying the Neymar ‘tributes’.
