Despite their mid-season status, KR Reykjavik should offer little genuine challenge to Celtic’s squad of Champions League experienced professionals. Still, the nerves tingle a little seeing a new management team lead the squad out of Glasgow Airport this morning.
Hopefully we have six qualifying games ahead. Where we sit right now, chances of qualification are high, but far from assured. There is a lot of work ahead.
It will be fantastic to see Martin O’Neill back at Celtic Park to lead Ireland against Scotland in the nations’ Euro 2016 qualifier. Seeing the traditional away side of the stadium covered in green, while Scotland fans occupy the bulk of the stadium, will provide an interesting photo opportunity. Apart from the ‘doe a dear’ lot, it’s likely to be a wall-to wall Celtic fan event. Good to see Roy Keane back too. In the away dug-out.
Hosting Scotland-England a few days later will cement the stadium’s position as a major event venue after a year of unique opportunities.
One of Adidas’ World Cup sponsor properties was to name and present Player and Goalkeeper of the Tournament. What could go wrong? Dragging the Adidas-sponsored and clearly embarrassed Lionel Messi up the stairs to receive his award looked contrived. Despite reaching the final and, at last, building a World Cup goals tally worthy of comment (5 across 3 tournaments), Leo wasn’t even Argentina’s best player.
These awards are subjective, so there are no right or wrong decisions, but this one brought Adidas derision.
Delighted for Germany. The demographics are moving against European football but the continental game has never been as strong.
Many thanks to everyone who bid on the auction or bought a raffle ticket for the signed canvasses last week. The raffle raised £604 and was won by CQN legend, Kolnbhoy. Funds from both canvasses are going to Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookie Jar Foundation.

An air of every fan is innoncent ?
Not one poster i have read has ever stated that
Although when events like Ajax fans visit then rip up seats and violently attack the police with torn up seat in full view of everyone in Celtic park, amazingly no arrests ? Did Celtic ask why? or our friends from across the city trash the toilets at Celtic park, sing their sectarian ditties, little few arrests, again do Celtic ask why ?
Celtic promote the family club image, it appears some members of the family are black sheep………………………..especially those ones who think they are innoncent
Even apart from the bizarre award for Messi I thought the whole presentation ceremony was really drawn out and contrived.
The Argentina players seemed to be kept waiting for ages on the pitch when all they really want to do is collect their sliver medals and return to the dressing room.
The golden glove and best player awards should not be done before the trophy presentation.
Not a very slick process from FIFA at all I thought.
Onlooker from earlier
Agree wholeheartedly. Similarities between tax avoidance accountants and those pharmacists in sport designing masking agents. Those who prove their “worth” are always much sought after by their respective dark sides. “Justice” will only prosper when similar penalties apply when the penalty fits the crime. Given the tax scheme referred to this morning was peopled with Judges and Barristers this gives you some indication of the likelihood of thid happening…..ie zilch.
BTW Bheaver wad saying we might know each other from Student days.
Sympathy to Neustadt B on your loss. Been off blog. Caught weefras but not your sad loss. Prayers will be said KTF.
Posting from phone so fat finger syndrome. Still proud to be a Tim.
Campbell Ogilvie was allegedly quoted as saying, “If only that Butler Sloss woman had phoned me. I could have told her how to get away with a conflict of interests.”
Report on Twitter this morning that Messi was physically sick during the first half of last night’s game.
Apparently it was not the first time and his medical team haven’t found the reason for it.
Possibly the reason why he has appeared to lack his usual stamina.
All through the tournament he only played in fits and bursts during games.

I understand that the delay was due to John Terry having difficulty locating a German top.

I don’t recall anybody stating that either and I didn’t say anybody had.
I’m off oot for lunch but just to summarise where I am with this:
1) I think PL/the club are more or less powerless to stop arrests
2) the club should be following up every arrest to see if it results in a charge and conviction, if this results in a low ratio then the police are open to question by the club on their methods
3) every data request should be fully paper trailed
4) every charge should not result in instant banning from games, but it may (and I’m open to persuasion on this) be appropriate for certain types of offence.
5) the club need to be a lot more open with the fans about this subject.
Anybody know who we are playing weekend of 9th August?
Sorry if I missed it, but was there an outcome with the Amsterdam 5 that “PL” & the Celtic “bored” hired a lawyer for?
Did PL get them to plead guilty and serve 10 years as season ticket holders in Edminston Drive. Iv’e never heard the outcome of these cases, so please inform me.
BMCUWP. “Big business is killing football. And it is now making a joke of it.”
Our old chairman Bob Kelly was all against TV showing football saying it would kill the game.
It has its good points (money) but now it DICTATES to football authorities when games will be played to suit their schedule rather than for the people in the terraces(you know what I mean”.
Will Celtic go to the EPL? I am sure our biggest shareholder Dermot Dessmon said “Sky will dictate if Celtic join the EPL”.
How do we fill the stadium when the game is on the telly an keep season ticket holders happy?
Reduce prices at “pay at the gate” while giving ST holders, who turn up, a beer (or 2) in the Kerrydale or other bars in Celtic Park.
Yes big business is killing football, but slowly. Hate to think of EPL if SKY has an implosion.

Why misrepresent the views on the blog ?
I’m off oot for lunch but just to summarise where I am with this:
On point 1 we wont agree, the club by adopting a clear and public stance of opposition to a inquitous bad piece of legislation by standing shoulder to shoulder with the fans who opposed the bill IMO would have restricted PS worst excesses in enforcing the act at Celtic park
On points 2 through to 5 we are in complete agreement
Enjoy your lunch
***LUNCHTIME QUIZ***
O, O, O it’s magic…
Today’s Lunchtime Quiz is brought to you by the letter ‘O’.
The golden cOcOnut will go to the first bhoy or ghirl to give me 10 former Celtic players whose name ends in the letter ‘O’.
I have 12 names, not including Juninho (real name Juninho Paulista) but there may be one or two more.
***The rules of the game are always the same.
No search engines please, you’re only cheating yourself***

I’m looking fo a couple of tix for Tuesday’s game at Murrayfield. I notice that the online system has most of the ground sold out. This I find difficult to believe. Have any CQNers bought tickets from othr agencies and if so did you have a choice of seat along the pitch?

Nothing to do with Celtic
SFA will take over Celtic park as their own stadium, SFA and Irish FA will be responsible for ticket allocation

Is the game on the telly tomorrow?
http://www.wikistadiums.org/uefa-elite-stadiums
There are two 5 EUFA 5 star stadiums in Scotland
Despite int games and national cup finals being held at Celtic park, Celtic park is not one of Scotlands 5 star stadiums
