Our major events venue, Adidas backfire, KR nerves

628

Despite their mid-season status, KR Reykjavik should offer little genuine challenge to Celtic’s squad of Champions League experienced professionals.  Still, the nerves tingle a little seeing a new management team lead the squad out of Glasgow Airport this morning.

Hopefully we have six qualifying games ahead.  Where we sit right now, chances of qualification are high, but far from assured.  There is a lot of work ahead.

It will be fantastic to see Martin O’Neill back at Celtic Park to lead Ireland against Scotland in the nations’ Euro 2016 qualifier.  Seeing the traditional away side of the stadium covered in green, while Scotland fans occupy the bulk of the stadium, will provide an interesting photo opportunity.  Apart from the ‘doe a dear’ lot, it’s likely to be a wall-to wall Celtic fan event.  Good to see Roy Keane back too.  In the away dug-out.

Hosting Scotland-England a few days later will cement the stadium’s position as a major event venue after a year of unique opportunities.

One of Adidas’ World Cup sponsor properties was to name and present Player and Goalkeeper of the Tournament.  What could go wrong?  Dragging the Adidas-sponsored and clearly embarrassed Lionel Messi up the stairs to receive his award looked contrived.  Despite reaching the final and, at last, building a World Cup goals tally worthy of comment (5 across 3 tournaments), Leo wasn’t even Argentina’s best player.

These awards are subjective, so there are no right or wrong decisions, but this one brought Adidas derision.

Delighted for Germany. The demographics are moving against European football but the continental game has never been as strong.

Many thanks to everyone who bid on the auction or bought a raffle ticket for the signed canvasses last week.  The raffle raised £604 and was won by CQN legend, Kolnbhoy.  Funds from both canvasses are going to Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookie Jar Foundation.

  2. Good evening Celts thought I’d log on for a read and a bit of Craic re the Celtic game tomorrow.

I see the many faces of the blog fascist is at it so I’ll not bother, I’m sure there’s a lot more like me who are staying away for longer periods, apart from the Craic and friendship found on the blog, there will be others who suffer, those charities which we choose to help and support, I can’t see the multi faced fascist being that bothered.

    Thanks for that, but,

Like ACGR, I remember one of our players friendly game sending off, being carried over to a competitive match

Remember we play through the SFA rules :-)

    Hail HIl

  4. Derk’s had a lot of game time pre season.

Does anyone think he is going to play tomorrow?

Will RD give him a chance ?

Really struggle to see what he brings to our team , so no from me.

Again back to Lionroar67 discussion this morning, would rather see someone like Paul McMullan getting a chance, or move Adam Mathews in front of Lustig (I read Lustig is struggling though for tomorrow)

Still a no from me :-)

    cowiebhoy and jj,

Charlie Mulgrew got sent off against Ajax in a friendly a few years back and was suspended for our season opener, another world first if I can remember.

Someone mentioned earlier about policing in Austria, maybe we could get refereeing to a standard witnessed at the World Cup, when you score a goal you can have the entire bench come onto the park and still no-one gets booked, don’t think it will catch on in Scotland.

Celtic to continue with Safe Standing application and update supporters on progress

The latest from just over 4 weeks ago from the SLO:

A meeting took place at Celtic Park on Wednesday, June 11 at which time the SAG rejected Celtic’s proposal. The decision by GCC, SAG was based on the fact that they were unconvinced of the case put forward by the Club in terms of the match day management plan.

    This focussed on:

    • Access control

    • Overcrowding

    • Supporter Migration

    • Supporter Behaviour

It was also considered that more information was required relative to physical barriers and the SAG were unsure/unclear of the access and egress procedures and times within the proposed section for Police and Emergency Services.

In order that we may bring the issue back to the table we have been asked to conduct further research into each of these areas and present a more robust case which provides comfort to the SAG that the measures proposed will prove to be adequate. This is something that the Club will be working on with a view to continuing our plans to bring safe standing to Celtic Park.

  12. Reported on Celtic News now, that Lustig has missed last 2 friendlies, due to issues/ reaction to hip operation from last season, and struggling with fitness for tomorrow

    Read it this morning

So is Liam oot or in for tomorrow ?

    Hail Hail

    I’m off a similar mind to u.

Struggle to see what impact Derk can have given record so far.

Just have a feeling there maybe a player there.

Who knows, a good pre season, get fit and he may do well.

Seem to remember Charlie Mulgrew being banned after being sent off in Ajax friendly from league game v Aberdeen.

Think if the ref reports it to the home assoc they will act, if not they don’t.

SFA probably were right in the blower to the ref after his sending off insisting he tell them about it!!!

  14. Unfortunately good Celts like Vmhan and a good few others are either leaving or greatly cutting down their usage of the blog because of racist posts mostly by the terrible twins. Paul seems unaware or not particularly bothered, some say scroll on by but tbh that is not the answer. These posts are repugnant to the Celtic ethos and should be challenged.

Depends on where you start your timeline to determine who made the first agressive act of WW1

I doubt that either of us can really believe that a group of otherwise peaceful nations went to war because a duck called Archie got shot in the Bosnias

    Agreed.

Equally can`t believe it was a bit of a temper tantrum between the “Royal” cousins as was suggested. The British king had no political power.

    Influence,yes. Power,no.

The Kaiser and the Czar did.
