Our redoubtable former manager

1226

No one on Celtic Quick News ever doubted Gordon Strachan, did they?

It’s been a long 8 years since that dark week but our former manager demonstrated enormous resilience to win three consecutive league titles and twice qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.  He is perfect for the Scotland role, although, to be frank, I didn’t think his squad had last night’s result in them.  Well done to all.

We have a special Father’s Day offer for the Willie Wallace book.  Order between now and Thursday morning and we’ll include a Father’s Day card, complete with your own message. See the big graphic to the right..

You can choose from two cards, see explanation and choices here, one with Tony Watt after scoring against some Spanish lot, the other with Billy McNeill receiving some trophy or other.

Click on the button below, enter the text you would like to appear in the middle of the card, and Tony will post your book off in time for Father’s Day.

    Celtic Board devious?

    I certainly hope so.

  2. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

Incidentally,I’ve seen Lenny making some welcoming references to the future return of the hun.

Wonder why he`s not copping it.

    The Board fair game.

Lenny sacrosanct? Too unpopular as a target?

  3. I am a wee bit late to the table on this particular discourse on how our board should be reacting to the revelations on a second division side.

I don’t often agree with Neganon, but he is right in one respect; we cannot maintain a dignified offhand silence.

It is as obvious as the noses on our faces that skullduggery has been afoot from the beginning of the Sevco saga, and it has been encouraged by all the bodies involved SFA, SPL, UEFA and the Masonic Lodge.

I believe CO is up for reelection shortly. We should be openly and vocally opposed to him continuing in his present or any capacity.

I’m not sure what else we can do but this should be the first shot across the bows of the corrupt football establishment.

How do you know the Board are silent on the issue?

    Because they haven`t spoken publicly?

Our Board may be many things, but they`re no mugs.

The only thing that has changed that has a direct impact on Celtic more than any other of CFs revelations is the email from Regan to Rangers about the UEFA licence.

I’m not so sure about that. The way I read some of the MediaHouse e-mails then I get the impression that they were trying to cast Celtic as the vindictive player. Had all this made it into the feral media then God alone knows how the Legions of the damned would have reacted.

What they were trying to implant into the public psyche was/is repugnant; and to my mind at least – criminally inciting.

I personally believe the safety of Celtic Supporters, and the general public, is much more important than a few million pounds.

If nobody is taken to task over these revelations, assuming they are all true, then it is indicative of what awaits in the future. If silence and inaction is the response to these revelations then what a gutless image of Scotland will be perceived by oh so many.

Neil Lennon is an employee of Celtic PLC. If he was to repeatedly be diametrically opposed to the party line then he would not be an employee for too much longer.

That is not to say that his desire to see the Huns back in the SPL is not a sincerely held desire. He is allowed his honest opinion too, I think; or more importantly… I hope.

    Hear Hear.

The mildest public response from Celtic would be portrayed as ” inflammatory ” by our friends in the media,

Speak softly and carry a big ( financial ) stick.

  8. A Stor Mo Chroi on

And besides it is not about where the Huns play, it is about in what guise and how they are allowed to play. It is about corruption and questionable governance of our national sport.

If the whole show is corrupted to favour one….

I equally don’t believe our board are mugs. Witness the position of strength we currently hold.

However, I see no evidence of them even attempting to clean house at the SFA despite the shenanigans at Hampden where the rule book is ignored or re interpreted to suit one side.

  10. macjay –

    Couldn’t agree more.

Nobody on CQN can possible know that the club has been sitting on its hands doing nothing.

Silence does not necessarily equate to inaction. These are very delicate issues which can seriously impact on people’s lives and safety.

I sincerely believe that Celtic are working tirelessly in the background, negotiating a way out of Scottish Football. That takes time and a lot of patience, and in the current climate, a lot of biting of tongues to resist the temptation to speak out publicly.

I have faith in the club to see it through.

    Hail Hail.

If Campbell Ogilvie, after his wee – all expenses paid – soiree in Mauritius, is returned unopposed then God help the game of football in Scotland.

Would Alan McRae or Rod Petrie being elected be an improvement worth the vote?

Bertie Auld has made similar references too.

Sometimes I wonder if they are in touch with the support at all.

I find it surprising as well.I was lucky enough to have a chat with Bertie when he was in Sydney and he was very complimentary about Davie Provan, a Rangers player I seriously did not like.I told Bertie that after Kai Johanssen scored against us at Ibrox,D.P. came trotting back to his left back berth giving the Celtic support the double handed vicky.

Having said that, nobody more in touch with the Celtic support than Bertie.Champion of a man.

  20. Am I alone in being thoroughly weary of the whole Zombie debacle? So much wailing and gnashing of teeth and yet so little done by any organisition who could make a difference. Judging by some of the posts on here it would appear that the only long term casualties will be the Celtic support and Celtic FC. Internecine fighting , we, the opposition turning on each other and in by doing so weaken the resolve to see justice done in Scottish football. Are other clubs supporters as obsessed with the Zombies as we seem to be? Are we the only support who care about justice for Scottish football or our motives somewhat darker and simply driven by a desire for retribution? I admit to be firmly entrenched in the retribution camp.

Some talk of the Machellivan traits of PL well it looks as if the Zombies have a Sith master in charge of their PR – full control of the SMSM which sadly included the allegedly impartial BBC propaganda spouted each and every day from Clyde FM. Damaging info released from anonymous sources instantly countered by total and utter silence from the press which is nothing more than a planned and coordinated suppression of the, alleged, truth.

The longer this goes on the more it seems to me is that in the ‘best wee country in the world’ we have had our Jelly and Ice cream moment! The very public humiliation and liquidation of the Oldco. Those in positions of responsibility and power within Scotland will not allow this to happen again. As many here have speculated The Zombie FC will continue to exist in some form regardless. The rules have been changed to preempt any future financial collapse, regardless of liquidation events the football club and its history is now a completely separate entity from the ’business’ it can be handed from company to company to company.

    Good morning CQNers,

Throughout this saga we’ve followed the evidence trails presented with such clarity by the award winning Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Ranger Tax Case and now the Charlotte tapes yet we’ve had Stewart Regan and Sandy Bryson simply dismiss it all by stating they don’t carry out any perfunctory checks on submissions by clubs.

The evidence of Sandy Bryson, the SFA’s Head of Registrations, held the key as to why stronger punitive action was not taken by the tribunal.

Under questioning, he explained that a player, once registered with the ruling body, remained registered with them until such time as his contract ended or that player left their club’s employment.

I have my suspicion that had Celtic been the transgressor the SFA may have had different views but that is simple conjecture.

Before the Celtic board could get involved they would need absolute irrefutable evidence of wrong doing, but even then , given the recent history of inquires and judicial proceedings that wouldn’t be enough.

I therefore understand the board’s reticence in challenging the SFA or any Scottish establishment body.

  24. Would it surprise anyone if GCHQ had been monitoring CQN ?

I have to laugh at those who believe establishment conspiracies start and end as you cross over the border from England, it only happens in the best wee country in the world……..how naive

The foreign secretary, William Hague, says reports that GCHQ are gathering intelligence from phones and online sites should not concern people who have nothing to hide. Speaking on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday, Hague claims all intelligence gathering done by the UK is governed by a stong legal framework. When asked directly about the UK’s links to Prism, the NSA’s secret surveillance programme, Hague declined to either confirm or deny

Mr Brysons view could have been easily challenged by a simple question

How many of at least hundreds of cases stretching back over a century in which protests regarding the registration of players were heard by the SFA and affiliated bodies from youth level to senior was the ruling that Mr Bryson gave the inquiry actually used by the SFA
