I’m sure there are people all over England wondering why their manager is apologising for anti-IRA chants by England fans last night. Someone likely pointed out to Roy Hodgson that his fans were breaking the law in Scotland by doing so, hundreds, if not thousands, could be criminalised this morning.
Their names and addresses are known to the football authorities, the match was televised and the chanting received widespread media coverage. Police Scotland were all over the ground and had the England fans surrounded.
All this took place in front of the First Minister, whose government decided laws against bigotry and sectarianism left them unable to “equalise” fans of all colours, most of whom never chant bigoted or sectarian words.
Alex Salmond left the stage caring nothing that the police have no interest in applying his law on this occasion. It wasn’t designed to criminalise the English, it was to criminalise Celtic fans. If the Offensive Behaviour Act can be flouted in front of the nation, the police and the First Minister, without censure or action, it is an absurd nonsense. The SNP government has refused to debate a review into the Act, never mind repeal it. They are defending the indefensible.

Came off at half time for Sweden on Saturday night.
Holding his head in his hands. Or hands to his head to be more accurate. I think that bit was frustration. Or else said hammy had pinged into his cranium.

Oops!!
Wasn’t at the game last night cos I ain’t paying 100 sobs for my ain seat for a friendly no matter who is playing
Anyway didn’t know anything about offensive chanting until this morning after listening to a particular radio phone in programme. As regards the lead article I heard comment from one caller this morning that the particular chant that is being alluded too was “more embarrassing than offensive” A view that I concur with. There was no mention of the fact that this particular chant may be construed, under the the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012 , in Scotland as criminal. Per se from what I know of the chant none of the words are particularly offensive unless you a a supporter of the proscribed organisation. The said organisation are not representative of the Irish people and nation so in the context of it being used at the stadium of a club with an Iris heritage and tradition while the same stadium was the sole domain of the SFA last night, I have no idea
As for the OBB itself I unashamedly repost from last week the figures gathered from its enforcement in the last 2013-2014 financial year. It appears we are trailing well behind from that other lot from across the city. How you perceive it is another matter.

My Iris heritage comes from my dad – he has green eyes too…
And to think many wanted to give the wallopers who dreamt this bill up they keys to the country….
Like putting the committee of your local golf club into the robes of office. Small minded, white, middle class, blinkered sophists.

I honestly do wonder at times what KevJ is aiming to achieve, but it’s really none of my business at the end of the day.

“Voted YES.for Independence…have never voted SNP dont know if i ever will…blah blah blah”
————————————————————
Please do not think I am having a go at you, I most certainly am not. It is totally your prerogative what you think is best for the country. It is the hypocrisy of those who formulated, and those who implement the OB act that I am having a go at.
However this is your reply to me the other night.
Greenpinta…i would hope the O B act would be repealled …if not
..i very much doubt that it will influence my vote…i will vote SNP…reason is ..Independence is my goal…and in an Independent Scotland i hope to see the rise of a proper socialist Labour party…i will never see this under the status quo
HH to you.
Paul67
I thought the passing of the OBB was an indication of an intellectual deficit and poor judgement in the politicians who voted for it that I found worrying.
Auldheid:
I concur but I know his heart is in the right place. If I could advise him I ask him to tone it down a little, but that is his sole prerogative.
At the end of the day mate, many frustrations are fraying many nerves but that should not be the cause of a fall-out amongst good Celtic men and women.
After all, we really are on the one road and we should be together, at least that’s what I’d wish for.

Auldheid, Canamalar,
There was a mention a few days ago that a statement on the progress of Res 12 from last year’s AGM would be published prior to this year’s AGM – which is now only 2 days away. Are you in a position to advise when this statement will be forthcoming?
HH

It’s going to be handled at the AGM itself following discussions with Celtic.

As someone who supported res 12 but cannot attend the AGM will this statement be available to me

Publically Phil MacGiolla Bhain has helped in the past and CQN can be used to answer any questions.

I want my personal opinion on this known and recorded.
I can think of no good reason for a joint statement by Celtic not being made. In fact, feedback is long overdue in my opinion and I find the lack of comment from Celtic since last AGM to be a concern.
Most of the shareholders who signed the requisition for this resolution do not read CQN or Phil MacGiolla Bhain’s blogs. They deserve proper feedback and respect direct from Celtic.
I can think of no good reason why feedback to shareholders on an adjourned resolution has not been scheduled into AGM.
I do trust it will raised during Q&A but feel it should be treated with more respect and we should not be hoping that it is raised. It’s not a side issue. It should not be treated as such.

Have you looked at the records of how this went through parliament, they’re available on the Govt website?
Celtic were consulted and voiced their opposition to the law as proposed, it’s on the record.

This is the timeline of stages
This is the final report. The footnote on page 5 makes it clear we (and Rangers) had issues with it. Those reservations are mentioned again elsewhere I think. Too busy to check again just now.
