Overwhelming benefits of being organised

635

St Mirren’s late goal at Ibrox yesterday was as welcome as it was unexpected, but it means little for us.  It was only the fourth league goal Rangers have conceded all season and Celtic almost conceded a fourth goal in the final minutes against Kilmarnock.  Four goals conceded in 11 games is championship winning form.

Rangers are certainly not a European-standard team at the moment but they are overwhelmingly organised.

We’re in trouble.

    Police Clamping Down On Sectarianism

Scotland’s anti-sectarian police are telling us they’re already seeing an improvement in supporters’ behaviour.

The Focus unit was set up to tackle violence in football after the trouble that marred last season. Over 100 banning orders have already been issued as a result of their work and the officers say they are saying a big change from the last campaign.

Superintendent David Brand, who is in charge of the Football Coordination Unit says, “The fans need to know that their behaviour at a game can impact on, not only the environment, but also it can identify people who they don’t want to be at the game because they are tarnishing the club.

“The atmosphere can be fantastic at a football match and it is not something the police want to get involved in, it’s when it turns sour, it’s when the songs get sung.

“Banter is good for the game and I think it needs to be encouraged, stay away from the bad stuff.”

The unit uses the latest technology to catch supporters who sing offensive songs in the act. They are the size of a credit card and are worn on the jackets of the officers to allow them to record sections of the crowd where trouble might be happening.

Sergeant Elenor Murdoch says, “We need to keep our eyes on the wholes crowd at all times, it can take anything just to start it off but as long as we have got eyes on the crowd we should be able to caputre it.

“We will have images of them and we will be able to identify them fairly quickly.

“These people come to the match all the time, they’re known to us and hopefully we will be knocking on their door soon.

  2. Grieg and McLelland were only kept on in order to appease the fans, to show that there was still Loyal Ra^&%rs men in the Board, and so therefore, hopefully, they would continue to buy Season Tickets.

Season Tickets sales finished and therefore no further need to keep them “In the loop”, if they were ever in it in the first place! por cierto.

Good Morning to the Celtic family from a very wet Central Scotland. Well If the the rumours are true that Kayal is ready to sign a new contract that would be a good bit of business for us as he is a class player. Now before all you anti Kayal Bhoys shoot me down I would ask you to consider this he is a young man and is thousands of miles away from his friends and family and he is not long back from injury I would agree that both his confidence and his form has dipped recently but that dip is being suffered by many of our young players.I often wonder what I would have been like at Kayals age if my job had taken me to Israel I guess I might have had my home sick moments. So lets hope the rumours are true and he returns to form sooner rather than later.H.H.

Mate, short of our board being made up of utter, utter, utter charlatans and incompetents (and believe me, I do not rule that out), it would offer a more clear-cut, concise explanation for what we’ve witnessed at Celtic than anything else I’ve heard in recent years.

I actually do find it difficult to believe our board is completely unaware of what’s going on over there. They have to know more than they’re letting on, and it would only be prudent for them to have have conducted some kind of impact study, and to know the likely outcomes.

If those outcomes as are adverse as I’ve predicted – other clubs WILL go out of business, there’s no doubt about it in my mind – Peter Lawwell’s comments at the AGM are explained. Scottish football really does stand on the edge of the abyss, and if that is what we’ve been preparing for, then fair play.

I say it again though – we must not interfere to help them. In any way.

    Minister at police football unit

    Last updated 3 Aug 2011 – 7:50 am

The football policing unit was formed to address trouble stemming from football matches

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill has paid a visit to the new football policing unit.

The national department was formed to try to address trouble stemming from football matches and ensure consistency in policing football games and in co-ordinating intelligence.

The move comes in the wake of disorder during a Scottish Cup game between Celtic and Rangers in March and the unit, called Football Co-ordination Scotland which will also enforce football-related legislation and support post-match investigations, is based in Govan Police Station in Glasgow.

Superintendent David Brand said the unit would not only be used in Old Firm games but in any match perceived as a possible “threat”.

He added: “It should also be noted that we will be carrying out extensive post-match investigations. So people should be aware that even if you’re not arrested there and then at the game, you could still be days or weeks after.”

Superintendent Brand said 103 football banning orders have been issued since the scheme was piloted in Glasgow and that extra measures have been introduced to ensure these people do not get into games. He said: “For instance, if there is a game abroad, we will ask these people to check in at a police station on that day to stop them from being able to travel to it.

“I think it’s going remarkably well. It’s taking the excellent work that we had going on here in Strathclyde and spreading it nationally.

Mr MacAskill’s visit to the unit was part of three-stop tour around the Strathclyde Police force area. He was at the force’s call centre on Tuesday morning, where emergency calls to the police are handled and later he was in Biggar to observe community policing.

Mr MacAskill is visiting all eight of Scotland’s police forces this summer to discuss proposals for change, to try, he says, to establish a consensus on the best way forward.

A proposed single force has been outlined in a Scottish Government consultation on the future of the police. Other options are having fewer forces or having a more “streamlined” version of the existing system. Ministers will announce their preferred choice after the summer recess.

So the Police unit won’t be used at hun games…carte blanche for the huns to sing their poison hearts out? Something rotten in Scotland

  15. James Forrest

Tis the only explanation I can see that fits the bill.

As for helping them, makes me slightly more worried, unless that is, the board have another plan in the pipeline.

If football in scotland were to take such a hit that clubs do go under, or become part time, I sure that DD will have a plan B, these guys are not stinking rich without having a contingency plan.

We all constantly moan about having a level playing field and the cheating that goes on to help them out, if they are helped to survive that would be the last straw for me. That would be final irrevocable proof that the game is a bogey and if our club allow it to happen I won’t be back what would be the point?

Rennes are a good team . Stand out player is Yann M’ Vila who plays defensive midfield . The front 2 —— Ekoko and Montano -are big ,strong and quick. On the basis of last night [ and their game against Udinese ] the weak link is the right back – Theophile -Catherine.–

In other news —– Italian football media outlets are reporting that The Court of Arbitration in Sport [ CAS ] will deal with the Sion /UEFA dispute on Wednesday coming. . It seems to be being commonly assumed that Sion will win the case. Uefa will then reinstate Sion by creating a 5 team group . It is being suggested that Udinese and Atletico will then tell UEFA to get stuffed and withdraw from the competition.——————-A farce ..

Just shoolbhoy stuff, Yes he might have been frustrated during the game, but it forced Neil to take him of. I’d be frustrated if I was watching the team fightback to 3-3 and not being able to do anything about it.

To be honest I’m frustrated with him he’s set his own benchmark and is falling way short of it. I can’t help thinking he’s working his ticket out of Celtic…but it’s all about opinions.

  20. @ James Forrest – Do you really think our board would help them stay in existence? I do. I think they absolutely would to save themselves in the process. Without an immeidate move to England a one horse race would kill Scottish Football and in turn really badly affect the Club.

If Kilmarnock or Motherwell or Inverness go under I will not cry for them.

My concern is that Celtic’s board of directors does nothing to help. That we insist the rules which are already in place are followed to the letter, that Rangers are treated as any other club – including us – would be treated in the same circumstances.

Without fear, without favour. A level playing field, as you say.

I can confirm with 100% certainty that CFC Board keep very close tabs on RFC Boardroom activity. Trust me on this , it comes from Horses mouth once removed-as close a source as I have.

In my opinion Lawwell and co should keep An eye on the external environment. They also need to keep an eye on the internal environment.

Imy opinion they are too focussed on RFC. Hoping for a Rangers collapse doesn’t make a Celtic Strategy.

Like everyone else I will be delighted if it comes to pass. I may order some bunting for the house. In the meantime I’m looking for a winning strategy and major revision on current signing policy from our Board.

Upon reflection i do, for every Kayal that we buy in on low wages seeking to profit in a hefty future transfer fee or on the pitch winning trophies for say 3 out of a 4 year contract then we’re gonna encounter the same problem regarding low wages year in year out.

It’s like a game of bluff and the board have had to fold on this one because of the situation we find ourselves in, it’s the support who are being shafted imo.

Kayals gig should’ve been sorted definitively in the summer, sold or contract extension/pay rise.

Browns contract shouldn’t be getting negotiated in its final year either, it should’ve been done 2 summers ago.

  24. Very much seems like with this BBC documentary coming up later this week that the Hun directors are getting the hell out of there before the shyte hits the fan. After all, thats 3 who have cited not being part of the “corporate governance” of the huns as the main reason for their resignation

If this is indeed the start of the apocalypse for them then we need to seriously be looking at playing in another league, the bottom tier of england if need be; and I agree JF, there is no way we should have any hand in helping the Huns out of their self made crisis; I just fear the SPL, SFA and who knows even the SNP will at least try swooping to the rescue :/

  25. I understand from my Ibrox insider that M/s Greig & McClelland have suspected for some time now that they were being deliberately excluded from Ibrox boardroom matters.

The Greatest Living Ranger & the Alfred Lookcock hitchalike…..I’m sorry, I’ll read that again – the Alfred Hitchcock lookalike…. had already learned that the other board members were meeting up surreptitiously every Friday night at Frankie & Benny’s, before going on to a movie at the Odeon, Springfield Quay. Seemingly the final straw came last Sunday afternoon, however, when Craig Whyte deliberately failed to invite them to a snowboarding session he had arranged at Braehead Xscape.

You know I am one of the most critical guys here when it comes to the strategy and its failures.

But if our board of directors has clear-cut, verifiable information that Rangers are on the verge of a complete collapse, or something that turns them into Scotland’s Leeds United, and have built the strategy around that then I would be broadly in favour of it.

Provided two conditions were met, it would have my full support.

    1) That the issues facing Rangers were existential, and unavoidable. In other words, the information we have on Rangers is iron-clad and therefore necessities a strategy based on us living without them for a while ….

    2) That the strategy was based on that, and not on their continued existence … i.e. that at no time was it contemplated acting to assist them.

Yes, if we have verifiable, iron-clad information that the problems facing Rangers are of an existential nature and have acted accordingly, to protect ourselves in the first few years following that event, then I would be behind it all the way.

Big If by the way … Very big if.
