PADDY ROBERTS BOOST FOR CELTIC

BRENDAN RODGERS’ hopes of persuading Paddy Roberts to return to Celtic have been given a massive boost.

The winger, who saw his 18-month loan period at the Hoops end last season, has intimated to his bosses at Manchester City that the Scottish champions are his preferred choice for another move.

Rodgers has admitted he would like to bring the 20-year-old winger back to Parkhead on either another long-term loan or a permanent basis.

The Hoops gaffer’s chances of achieving either had looked increasingly remote after it emerged Nice were about to offer a big-money deal.

However, the French club have moved swiftly to snap up Monaco touchline ace Allan Saint-Maximin which is likely to kill off all interest in Roberts.

The youngster became a fans’ favourite in the east end of Glasgow in the second part of the campaign when Rodgers’ side claimed the title ‘The Invincibles’ as they remained unbeaten while achieving a spectacular domestic clean sweep.

Now it remains to be seen if negotiations with the Parkhead powerbrokers are successful to land Roberts for another season at least.
