Celtic recorded victories over Dundee and Hearts after their first two Champions League games but collected only one point from the two league games following the double header against Barcelona. They also won after only two of their four Champions League qualifying games, so there is no reason to expect a convincing win against Inverness tomorrow.
Inverness slumped to a freak 1-5 defeat at home to Motherwell last week but that was their first defeat since the same team beat them earlier this season. Like Celtic at the Camp Nou, they will be set on defending deeply at Celtic Park in order to prevent another collapse. This could be an occasion for Paddy McCourt to prize them open.
I had a look at the Europa League group tables last night. Udinese, who eclipsed us in the same competition last season, are bottom of their group this year, as are PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Athletic Bilbao (who beat Manchester Utd home and away last season) and Helsingborgs. Other recent opponents Rapid Vienna and Hapoel Tel-Aviv are also bottom.
If you’re on Facebook there is a story on the CQN Magazine page about Benfica implying Celtic only beat Barcelona because of cheating. Drop in and take a look. On a related subject, I’ve some good material from Spartak in reserve for the days before their visit.
The Annual Remembrance Service, held by the Celtic Supporters’ Association, takes place tomorrow, in memory of Celtic fans no longer with us, with prayers offered for those departed during the last year, including Joe McBride.
The Mass, at St Michael’s at 1350 Gallowgate just up from Parkhead Cross, will start at 12:30 and should be over in around 30 minutes, after which refreshments will be available in the hall to warm you before you head to the game. All are welcome to celebrate the memory of those who have gone before us.
Lost wedding ring alert! Someone found a wedding ring in Lisbon which was probably dropped by a Celtic fan. Let me know if you know who is walking around with their hand in their pocket this week.
Get your CQN Annual here, an enormous resource from the keyboards of Celtic fans!

The hoover, the runaways and a judicial nod is as good as a wink on the Rangers Tax Case http://t.co/gak6e9O1
Find myself disagreeing with Paul for first ever time I think. No way should mcourt wear our jersey these days.
Mcoist and the msm media can take a run and jump.
You’d think they had something to hide. .
My copy of the CQN Annual arrived this morning.
I’ve only had time to scan through, but the professional quality of the Annual shines.
The layout looks great, visually stunning pics. I’ll get around to reading through it in the coming days, if aim not on here you’ll know why!
And I get a name check, not just once.
Check out th bottom of the page, see I f your name is there, you know you will.
I’ve been thinking a lot about SPL form at Celtic Park against sit-tight opponents.
Any win will be great. However, it would be good not to suffer the pressure of chasing a result late in the game. MIBs are far from gone and still love sticking it to Celtic if they get a half-chance.
So, football.
I would love it if part of Lenny’s game-plan involved stretches (ten minutes or so) of pummelling the tightly packed defence in the good old-fashioned way. And I mean long high balls into their box with the big ghuys in there to get a flick, a deflection, a penalty or even a corner. Vic, Lustig, Efe, Charlie, Sami … all big targets.
Of course that can’t be for the whole game, but it would be a good way to start and finish each half, if required. That would leave 50 minutes to try to pass our way through and get in behind, which can also work, of course, and is easier on the eye.
On that note, however, Kayal and Vic need to shoot. A lot. Ten shots each would be my target.
Game-plans are complex things these days, involving variations in formation and changes in rhythm and tactics. It’s as it should be.
Batter them, get a goal or two, watch them change their plan, then tip-toe in behind them for half an hour to extend the lead, then batter them again.
Come on the Hoops.
Philbhoy @12.59- Paddy’s got an EBT.

The MSM is deliberately misrepresenting the tax case decision ….
The average knuckledragger Hun will accept the MSM position without reservation and any suggestion to the contrary will be seen as an unfounded deliberate attacked on their zombie club
Do the MSM have no regard for the saftey of those who have to serve on the investigative committee …..clearly not , instead they stir up the rotten mob with their disinformation
Shameful
I see old purple nose is saying Benitez is lucky because he could win the World Clup Championship with Di Matteo’s team.
I wonder if anyone will point out that the success he had at Aberdeen was with Billy McNeill’s team. Sadly I think the MSM down there are almost as bad as the ones up here (okay, maybe not that near!). Patrick Barclay is the only one who seems to write anything critical about him.

Getting sick of reading of this tax case
If the matter had been properly researched from the outset some of you would have discovered that between 1995 and 1995 the huns channelled payments to HMRC in an underhand way that would have supported a small nation. They were able to achieve this by employing a wee fat Geordie and his big fat bellied pal who between them laundered millions towards the tax man in the way of excise duty
Ps I hope that the the anger doesn’t give them
Fair play to the SPL for not caving in and disbanding the inquiry. I honestly fully expected that they would just hide behind the FTT.
Auldheid – I haven’t read back so apologies if I’m churning over old ground.
I expect the rangers defence of the EBT payments and registration with SFA will rest on the fact that there is a disconnect between rangers paying out to a trust fund, and the trustee making the decisions to pay out to the players.
However I raised the question yesterday, if this is the case how did the rangers directors explain the trust fund payments to their shareholders? As without a defined and communicated strategy for payments to the trust, which otherwise appear to be non-contractual and in return for no goods or services to rangers, the trust payments would appear to be a simple money sink.

I find it very difficult that the SFA (or some in senior positions there) did not know about the EBTs, given the “revolving doors” that operated between Oldco, SFA and SPL in terms of senioor management personnel throughout the last decade.
It is also evident that in going to such lengths to conceal the side letters from HMRC (particularly by Mr Red) that Oldco themselves felt they were not above board.

BRT&H must have been feeling left out of some illustrious company.
On a serious note,a lot of the guys they are naming have a professional background, such as legal training.
They might just have a wee conference call, raise an action, and shut the sites down.
Hopefully Paddy will be nowhere near the bench let alone the pitch tomorrow. Had his chance to impress when we needed him v Hibs earlier in season and he was awful. Time to move on and give some youngsters a chance. Would rather see McGeouch if needed but a midfield three of Kayal, Wanyama & Mulgrew with Commons in front of them as the creative force in the team.

Very interesting piece.
No mention of why the tribunal sat in private, which to me, in the bigger picture of the administration of justice, is as important as the substance of the case itself.
Not sure why HMRC conceded the validity of the trusts and loans, though as has been pointed out, that’s not a slam dunk. The Ramsay principle allows for individual parts of a sham to be kosher without affecting the fact that the sham is a sham.
Applying your level of devious thinking (and I’m not sure whether to be impressed or scared by it) one might think that the tribunal has deliberately left an open goal here for the Upper Tier to score.
So far as BDO or creditors or shareholder of MIH questioning what has gone on, I’m not convinced. The point is that if the money hadn’t gone into a trust it would have gone in wages. The only party to have lost from the arrangement is HMRC .
(btw there’s a couple of minor typos: sealing for dealing and vein for vain)
Spl inquiry to begin on jan 29 2013 :o)

This also puzzles me. It seems that the money (if it was ever repaid) would only have gone back into the trusts.
Surely for it to be a loan there had to be some mechanism for the money to come back to RFC. It’s an EMPLOYEE Benefits Trust and they were RFC’s employees.
Thanks Paul67

Annual through door today also, well impressed.
I would humbly suggest that Paddy McCourt is receiving his wages on the very same basis that every other squad player is.
Why he seems to be singled out among all the others is weird.
