Paddy time, Europa and Remembrance

1055

Celtic recorded victories over Dundee and Hearts after their first two Champions League games but collected only one point from the two league games following the double header against Barcelona.  They also won after only two of their four Champions League qualifying games, so there is no reason to expect a convincing win against Inverness tomorrow.

Inverness slumped to a freak 1-5 defeat at home to Motherwell last week but that was their first defeat since the same team beat them earlier this season.  Like Celtic at the Camp Nou, they will be set on defending deeply at Celtic Park in order to prevent another collapse.  This could be an occasion for Paddy McCourt to prize them open.

I had a look at the Europa League group tables last night.  Udinese, who eclipsed us in the same competition last season, are bottom of their group this year, as are PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Athletic Bilbao (who beat Manchester Utd home and away last season) and Helsingborgs.  Other recent opponents Rapid Vienna and Hapoel Tel-Aviv are also bottom.

If you’re on Facebook there is a story on the CQN Magazine page about Benfica implying Celtic only beat Barcelona because of cheating.  Drop in and take a look.  On a related subject, I’ve some good material from Spartak in reserve for the days before their visit.

The Annual Remembrance Service, held by the Celtic Supporters’ Association, takes place tomorrow, in memory of Celtic fans no longer with us, with prayers offered for those departed during the last year, including Joe McBride.

The Mass, at St Michael’s at 1350 Gallowgate just up from Parkhead Cross, will start at 12:30 and should be over in around 30 minutes, after which refreshments will be available in the hall to warm you before you head to the game.  All are welcome to celebrate the memory of those who have gone before us.

Lost wedding ring alert! Someone found a wedding ring in Lisbon which was probably dropped by a Celtic fan. Let me know if you know who is walking around with their hand in their pocket this week.

Get your CQN Annual here, an enormous resource from the keyboards of Celtic fans!

Lustig or Mulgrew can move to centre half with Ambrose. Victor will stay in midfield. Paddy mustn’t play. Hooper, as first choice striker, needs game time to get back to fitness. Watt, for the moment, is best from the bench. Lassad before Miku for me.

Nail on the head…no matter how much we go on about them getting away with this and that, we are currently witnessing something I’d have thought was a million to one shot….the death of RFC.

Its up their with Lisbon in my book.

  3. Like Brogan et al my experience of these matters is somewhat out of date and only extends to the social security part of the Upper Tribunals but the principles are the same. The Upper Tribunal is retricted to dealing with errors of law and no new significant evidence can be led. However the term errors of law is in reality quite broad and does not restrict itself to just getting the law wrong ie applying the wrong regulations or case law. Insufficient findings of fact, inadequate reasons supporting the decision or just making a decision which no reasonable body would make would sufficient to have the FTT overturned. Usually the case is returned to a differently constitited tribunal with directions from the Upper Tribunal but the Upper Tribunal can substitute their own decision if they see fit.

  4. Lads,

Anyone know what the story is re tickets for Easter Road on 29th December?

I caught a post by someone yesterday saying that he had been at the Hibs ticket office and got 4.

I don’t make it to many away games but I live in Edinburgh and would definitely go to this game if I could get a ticket. Is it just a case of turning up at the Hibs ticket office with your season ticket. I’ve tried to ring HFC a couple of times but line busy.

yes you only need 9 teams to win. but you have put on 10 bets since there are 10 different combinations of 9 so you only have a pound on each.

if all 10 win you win 10 bets at £1 but if 1 team doesnt win you would only win the 1 of those bets that didnt have that team in it.

if more than 1 team doesnt win then you are stuffed and should think about puting on an easier bet!!!

just realised Mulgrew is doubtful as well, stick in young Chalmers, he’s a left back, give him a run rather than play players out of position

They don’t even have to go to that expense. A simple program can track your mobile even with it turned off, and can also hear every word you say.

The only way to beat it is to remove the battery.

More and more we are the most observed people on earth.

And the ‘observance’ of The GB is harrassment. No doubt about it.

Just because you are ‘ultra’ does not mean you are to be automatically criminalised.

The rule of law exists for all. That applies equally to those entrusted with enforcing it.

  10. Seven Fishes Four Steaks,

I guessed that from the many comments – must of which I’ve just deleted. I’ve had 250 hits or so from Rangers Media since last night. I also had a thread on FF last week. There’s a double to be proud of!

There is a real air of renewed superiority among the hoardes after this judgement. Clearly led by their masters and a compliant media they now believe that the club is totally innocent – they are (wrongly of course) interpreting the FTT decision as a Not Guilty verdict on all charges. It “proves” that they didn’t ever cheat.

They also believe that everything that happened to the former club is the fault of a “fenian conspiracy” involving Celtic, bloggers and journalists to bring them down. And they are very angry now that they feel vindicated. Many of the comments made on my blog, when you take out the sectarianism, bad language and BJK stuff, are threats of dire repercussions.

This is all going to end up in violence. We know that is their usual response when wound up.

Everyone should be very careful at the game today. Avoid going anywhere near the likes of Bridgeton if you can.

  11. C’mon someone : a Christmas special on the death of r*****s, a coffin to definitively nail their lies, and bring down the curtain on their rank rotten history. Please, Santa.

    I’d watch it.

Hell yeah! I’d even contribute to the funding thereof. Pay per view, even. Why not? Sink those zombie gobmonsters once and for all.

There was a chance to get rid when they flopped out of the league structure.

But they were allowed to cravenly slither back in, like Hately’s grin….orange and awful as it stretches the leather.

A grimace on legs. I wish they’d properly died. Not been allowed the chance to continue brogueing around, lurching drunkenly, viciousness intact.

    An opportunity missed.

Hopefully, financial suicide is again looming for them. I’m sick of being sickened by them.

And their latest pronouncements as they emerge en masse from their sodden bunkers are ominous in their rabid sleekitness.

  12. Scotland continues to become a very sinister place to live.

As I posted yesterday, the deceased rangers glee at the outcome of the tax case is akin to a rapist getting off on a legal technicality whilst obviously guilty and then trying to sue the victim.

The MSM are their cheerleaders throughout as ever.

We have the GB boycott today – I was pleased with the Board’s response so I am going to go to the game today but the Board had better start defending its supporters.

Sevco supporters continue to intimidate, threat and harrass anyone who dares question anything they do. They are now being ably supporterd by the police. The new sectarian attack figures are a disgrace to Scotland and reconfirm what we all know – you are far more likely to get attacked if you are a celtic supporter and/or a catholic. Laughingly the SNP point to the new, most illiberal law in a modern western country, as a great response to this.

Meanwhile a poster on rangertaxcase is arrested – we all know you are reading all of these posts Mr Policeman. Let me make you a promise – we are watching you too and while this climate of fear in Scotland exists you may think you have got us where you want us. But rest assured truth will out.

Meanwhile SDM is trying to ensure that investigative journalism in Scotland is put back into the middle ages.

The SNP government, day by day, looks more and more like a dictatorship with the strathclyde police (having now taken over the rest of the police force) the attack dogs.

I havent felt this way since the Thatcher era – where scandals like the miners strike and hillsborough occurred and we are only now seeing justice emerge.

Mr Salmond and co – just remember there is no hiding place for your crimes – they will out in the end.

  16. I haven’t been able to read as much as I wanted regarding our recent visit to Lisbon.

Was there any comment on the treatment we received from the Benfica/Police officials at the game ?

I though we were treated disgracefully.

The herding of fans who had purchased tickets for various parts of the ground into an area with the “Official” Celtic fans, caused crushing and almost a riot.

Fans were forced into the area and the stupid Police didn’t realise that there was not enough room.

Young, nervous, inexperienced officers drew batons and shouted threats at elderly fans, attempting to force them, at speed, up the steep steps.

It was only the arrival of an older officer who immediately ordered the opening of another section of seats that avoided a catastrophe.

The delay in allowing Celtic fans to leave the stadium was also a disgrace.

It is to the eternal credit of our people that instead of getting angry, they held a fantastic sing song.

However, when eventually allowed to leave the stadium, the foolish officials had most of the exit doors closed, causing a totally unnecessary crush, with several people showing signs of fear and panic.

    Shame on these incompetents.

They are glad to take our money, but treat us like animals.

Incidentally, their incompetence cost local bars/restaurants thousands of euros by delaying our exit.

    BRTH…. excellent

Italiabhoy……very true. This ‘delusion’ stems from being nurtured on a diet of superiority complex, institutional favouritism, a masonic driven ‘right of passage’, and a large helping of blind ignorance. A complete vicious circle which as you put it, cocoons them.

I really dont mean to generalise because I have a few real mates who I’d be betraying, but they are different people. I think this is partly due to them getting away with the bank robbery while we get hammered for the parking ticket. Thats the way its always been, in my 50 years anyway. We’ve had to be different to progress in this country but having a different DNA makes it easier.

I was really angry when it was introduced in Lenzie Academy a few years ago as a pilot project and the feckers fingerprinted my eldest!!

Steak Bake Sally can laugh and say what he wants because for all the moves the Scottish establishment has pulled for them theres one thing theyll never stop and thats the fabric of society gettin’ pelters for the rest of their days about their flagship of hunnery dying a long and unnecessary death leaving them to support a brand new football club who’s only credibility is fan emotion for a totally different football club, that and its oh so very cheaply bought assets.

  26. Our seventh home match and only 7 goals scored in the previous six. Celtic are top scorers in the SPL away from home this season with 17 but equal lowest scorers at home. Of course every home game has followed a match in Europe but it`s about time that the home crowd had something to cheer about.
