Paddy time, Europa and Remembrance

1055

Celtic recorded victories over Dundee and Hearts after their first two Champions League games but collected only one point from the two league games following the double header against Barcelona.  They also won after only two of their four Champions League qualifying games, so there is no reason to expect a convincing win against Inverness tomorrow.

Inverness slumped to a freak 1-5 defeat at home to Motherwell last week but that was their first defeat since the same team beat them earlier this season.  Like Celtic at the Camp Nou, they will be set on defending deeply at Celtic Park in order to prevent another collapse.  This could be an occasion for Paddy McCourt to prize them open.

I had a look at the Europa League group tables last night.  Udinese, who eclipsed us in the same competition last season, are bottom of their group this year, as are PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Athletic Bilbao (who beat Manchester Utd home and away last season) and Helsingborgs.  Other recent opponents Rapid Vienna and Hapoel Tel-Aviv are also bottom.

If you’re on Facebook there is a story on the CQN Magazine page about Benfica implying Celtic only beat Barcelona because of cheating.  Drop in and take a look.  On a related subject, I’ve some good material from Spartak in reserve for the days before their visit.

The Annual Remembrance Service, held by the Celtic Supporters’ Association, takes place tomorrow, in memory of Celtic fans no longer with us, with prayers offered for those departed during the last year, including Joe McBride.

The Mass, at St Michael’s at 1350 Gallowgate just up from Parkhead Cross, will start at 12:30 and should be over in around 30 minutes, after which refreshments will be available in the hall to warm you before you head to the game.  All are welcome to celebrate the memory of those who have gone before us.

Lost wedding ring alert! Someone found a wedding ring in Lisbon which was probably dropped by a Celtic fan. Let me know if you know who is walking around with their hand in their pocket this week.

Get your CQN Annual here, an enormous resource from the keyboards of Celtic fans!

Would you believe that I am watching the Barca game and its 2-0 85th minute and I am biting my nails and wanting the clock to run down !!!!

Watched the game next day in big G64’s hoose,I’m shouting in the last 5 mins ” kick the baw

  3. CQN Annual just dropped on the doormat. Excellent 196 page chronicle of the best Celtic blog around – a must for all Celtic fans (for Xmas?).

Huge kudos to Paul67 and all the erudite posters (you know who you are) who have informed and educated the CFC / CQN community and will hopefully continue to enlighten and entertain the Celtic / CQN family in the coming exciting year.

Please keep up the excellent work guys – it is very much appreciated by the CFC community. Hail Hail

  4. Deidco fans can now look forward to a nice trip to Elgin in Jan/Feb on a Wednesday night, what’s not to like.HH

I think there should be a re-make of ‘Boardwalk Empire’!

To have an American-Italian actor play play the part of an Irish-American gangster is very shoddy!

Would have been really shocked if was one of our fans. Their blogs compared to ours in general couldn’t be further apart , like comparing a caravaggio to a paint by numbers. I know they aren’t all bad but the overwhelming stench of hatred emanating from them with very little factual content is quite scary. The inner sanctums of a sevco fans diseased mind is a place where logic, tolerance & critical thinking come second to blind hatred and inciteful bile.

Not once over this whole EBT saga has any remorse been genuinely shown. McCoist & Green deserve all the bad karma coming their way because some poor soul will be taking the pain from one of the thugs that hang on their every word.

  8. Jonny the Tim,

The name came into my mind very briefly :)

In this society though you could never second guess. Was aghast at what young Oliver Jones got to say last night on QT about Gaza without being edited. Was shouting at the tv like I was shouting on the Hoops. Poor lad doesn’t realise his career will be over now.

  9. An Elgin Director said he was in tears with reception they got at Poundland, hopefully same again when he gets the pie bill for tomorrow.

Glad you like the CQN Annual. It really is a lovely book and is important too. Keep it for years as it is a fairly accurate account of our undying love for Celtic and at the very back of the book, there is a very accurate account of the demise of Rangers. Invaluable as the re-writing of history is well underway. With writers like Paul, Brogan Rogan, Tony McCann, Auldheid and many others this is CQN at its finest. It makes a great gift and allows CQN to develop so everyone on here should consider ordering a copy. 196 pages long – you won’t be disappointed.

  12. Thought big Vic had a very poor game against Benfica and his lack of discipline when he needlessly put his boot into the shin of a Benfica player knowing the consequences of missing the Spartak game showed his lack of maturity.

You just won’t get away with this on the continent.

  13. Just watch as this embarrassing, amateurish foul up by Elgin suddenly becomes yet another Sevco “world record”…….

  14. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

After Lennys statement about Scott today I have reversed my opinion, I’m allowed to do that I hope :o) If they want to go for it, give yer best shot Bhoys

  15. sixtaeseven: CQN, antidote to deceptive, selective journalism on

It’s not easy to get an update on our injury situation for the game tomorrow.

Kelvin Wilson (flu) and Joe Ledley (groin) and, I would imagine, Scott Brown all out (along with Izzy and Jamsie). Not sure what the situation is with Thomas Rogne?

So we could see a few changes tomorrow. Personally I would like to see more of Lassad and I think that Kayal is starting to show a bit of form, although I’m expecting a lot more from him.

Young Dylan is another I would like to see getting a chunk of game time, he’s got an energy and directness that could freshen us up a bit.

The games are coming thick and fast, but that how we want it.

We’re still in four competitions, but it’s taking its toll on the players.

Whatever the lineup, we should have more than enough to take care of Butcher’s hammerthrowers (although their result last week was indeed a freak).

An interesting fixture tomorrow will be Hibs v Aberdeen: second v third in the table.

Would like to see Hibs make a sustained challenge: a win tomorrow might spur them on.

On a side letter (see what I did there?), it’s great to have a Saturday ” o’clock kickoff !!!
