PALMA EURO WOE

LUIS PALMA suffered the agony of an early Champions League exit after Lech Poznan drew 1-1 with Red Star Belgrade in the Serbian capital to topple out on a 4-2 aggregate.

The Honduran winger recently joined the Polish outfit on a season-long loan, but any hopes of a glory run in Europe’s elite competition came to an abrupt halt last night.

The downfall was set in motion the previous week in the 3-1 first leg home defeat and, despite the Serbs being reduced to 10 men just before the hour mark with Rodrigao’s red card, there was no way back for Palma and Co.

HAPPIER TIMES…Luis Palma thumps the ball into the Atletico Madrid net in Celtic’s 2-2 Champions League draw at Parkhead in October 2023.

The flamboyant winger, who cost the Hoops £3.75million when he joined from Greek side Aris Thessaloniki in the summer of 2023, was removed from the action in the 79th minute.

Red Star now face Pafos in the first leg of their play-off on Tuesday. The Cypriot club overcame Dynamo Kiev 2-0 last night to complete a 3-0 aggregate win.

Celtic, of course, play Kazakhstan’s Kairat Almaty in their opening game at Parkhead 24 hours later.
