Palma laying down a marker

89

This time last year we were glowing at the dramatic win at Fir Park, which saw Luis Palma and Matt O’Riley score either side of a Motherwell goal in added time.  Luis scored two of our five Champions League goals last season and by Christmas looked like a successful summer buy.

Form dropped off across the team during the winter months and Luis was one of the casualties.  He played only once after pickign up an injury in March, which coincided with an uptick in results.

Last night’s hattrick in a friendly at Sligo Rovers would not have meant as much to him as giving Celtic the lead against Atletico Madrid or Feyenoord last year, but he needed to lay down a marker like that.

Brendan likes to sub wingers during the game, which means at least three and often four from Maeda, Kuhn, Yang, Forrest and Palma will play.  He will have chances to stake his case before the end of the season.

did you read message bout tomorrow night’s theatre being cancelled.some are dropping out but we are still going to In̈nis & Gunn at Ashton Lane, same kick off time.few beers bout the west end

  2. Palma plays a bit like Grealish, the way Pep uses him out wide.He can suck defenders across to him, then put the ball back inside,as we saw last night.Loads of lovely passes into the box,up the wing for the overlapping back, and a good few crossfield passes to the opposite. Can beat a man,and get the ball into the box.His crossing with the outside of the right foot, nearly impossible to defend.

No one on here will tell me the boy is not a class act.Minds and opinions are closed.End of,for them.

Lots of the same people who could not see by MJ,who had dozens of chances,by Brendan as well.Palma has had one chance and took it when he arrived and delivered,on a par with Jota.Maeda comes back, chance ended.Anyway, class act to me.I love the Jota’s,Palmas,Paddy Roberts,of this world.Always have .

That’s a bit like a football manager getting a vote of confidence from the Board….

  9. Always a pleasure to hear the commentary when England play. They just stop short of belting out a rousing chorus of Land of Hope and Glory. When Bellingham score

“It must be something in the English DNA,we never know when we are beaten”.😂😂😂😂

He says from the second division in Europe, after getting relegated last time.

Don’t think so. Heard a local commentator say the Aussies have to travel to Saitama for their next game on Tues.

Re the Sligo match. It seems that Norway’s midfield starlet Odin Thiago Holm wasn’t selected.

Of course, he’s called ‘Thiago’ as that was the player who most inspired his football dreams and play style.

Rumours he might be changing his name to Odin James McCarthy Holm are currently unfounded.

  18. Good Morning Fholk – Grand Day To Be A Tim

Well done Ireland, off the mark in… well whatever league it is, Liam Scales goal…

Noticed there are still not convinced that our current TV deal is poor…

…just to put Premier Sports 75K for the top of the league clash between Celtic and Aberdeen which Celtic rejected, it is worth putting that in context.

This is the deal that was brokered in 2011…

“ESPN and Sky Sports have signed a £80m five-year deal with the Scottish Clydesdale Bank Premier League, to each broadcast 30 games live a season in the UK and Ireland

The new deal is on what a spokesman for the SPL called “improved terms” and runs from 2012/13 to the end of the 2016/17 season.

    https://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/sky-sports-espn-sign-scottish-football-deal/1105304

Now that deal was to run from 2012/13, which meant Rangers dying swan act put paid to that.

However it is definitely worth looking at where Scottish Football was as regards the broadcasters before the smartest guys in the room started messing things up.

    Their big decisions…

Refusal to expand the Clubs competing in the SPL

The 5WA that was signed to keep Scottish football viable

The merger of the SPL and the SFL

All of those decisions we were told were for commercial reasons, e.g. expanding the league and changing the format might have got us better, more competitive football but wasn’t viable

Before these geniuses are their wisdom of Solomon decrees, we were getting over half a million per game.

    £533k as opposed to £75k over a decade later….

As I’ve been known to say…

    Don’t believe the Hype…

    Hail Hail
