Panenka did more than a chip

202

13 days until Celtic are in preseason action on their tour of Austria against locals, SK Vorwarts Steyr.  We then face Bohemians or Prague, who the Celtic site tell us have Antonin Panenka as chairman, famous for the Panenka Chip to win the 1976 European Championships for Czechoslovakia against West Germany.

Panenka is less celebrated around these parts for being part of the infamous Rapid Vienna team Celtic faced in 1984.  No photos with Moussa, please.  We have two further games, against Sparta Prague, and Shamrock Rovers in Dublin, before our first Champions League qualification game.

Fair play to Newco for getting some money for the naming rights to what was previously called Murray Park.  Named after the Rangers owner who authorised the EBT schemes which ultimately led to the club’s liquidation, it must have been embarrassing to have Sir David Murray’s name associated with Newco’s training ground.

As a rule, I am up for things which bring money into a club.  Whether Hummel attach their mission statement, ‘We look for those who rarely win’ to the facility remains unclear.

  1. BGFC, enjoy your trip to Deutschland, especially stop off in Köln, if you can, visit the Dom (cathedral). And Garmisch is fabulous, in fact the drive down to Bayern is outstanding. Well done to Miss BGFC. HH

do you think when the irish citizen army fought against the british that they were worried about what would come when they vanquished the enemy?

I still recall that Panenka chip….took a lot of balls at such a crucial stage against a great keeper like Sepp Maier too.

*The great Sepp Maeir, him and Beckenbauer had a wee tiff in the penalty box at a corner in the semis of the ECWC with deidco leading 1-0 at the time, this may have been attributed to a speculative jardine cross come shot from 20 yards landing in the net earlier on, big Franz then walked out of the box leaving space for right half parlane tae thump a cross intae the net, he almost did a big Yogi and put it over the bar fae the goal line.

    Eff Sepp Maeir after that.

  8. Just read the last 2 pages. Standards definitely slippi g on here as I still have no idea of the score in today’s World Cup opener.

People died because their safety was deemed not important enough to justify the spending on fire safety.

This actual oppression and exploitation affects all of us and is much more important and wide-reaching than the constitutional farce that is Brexit.

Here is an article which shows what happens in Canada when famous people (in this case, Donovan Bailey and a canadian olympic skiier) use questionable tax plans to avoid paying tax ….

*as Justin said, we’re nice, polite but not pushovers. The CRA came after me one year for not declaring withdrawing money earlier in the tax year to help a hard up acquaintance, just told me to repay what I owed,

Couple of years later it happened again, tough being a Franciscan lol, this time as well as repayment I had to pay a hefty fine and was audited for 7 years.

Could have been worse, i could have live south of the border and ended up in handcuffs.
