Panenka did more than a chip

202

13 days until Celtic are in preseason action on their tour of Austria against locals, SK Vorwarts Steyr.  We then face Bohemians or Prague, who the Celtic site tell us have Antonin Panenka as chairman, famous for the Panenka Chip to win the 1976 European Championships for Czechoslovakia against West Germany.

Panenka is less celebrated around these parts for being part of the infamous Rapid Vienna team Celtic faced in 1984.  No photos with Moussa, please.  We have two further games, against Sparta Prague, and Shamrock Rovers in Dublin, before our first Champions League qualification game.

Fair play to Newco for getting some money for the naming rights to what was previously called Murray Park.  Named after the Rangers owner who authorised the EBT schemes which ultimately led to the club’s liquidation, it must have been embarrassing to have Sir David Murray’s name associated with Newco’s training ground.

As a rule, I am up for things which bring money into a club.  Whether Hummel attach their mission statement, ‘We look for those who rarely win’ to the facility remains unclear.

Given the Scottish msm’s obvious familiarity with the impact of the “break even” aspect of the FFP regulations and how they impact upon PSG and French Eddy, I am looking forward to a similar expose on how the team from Govan are spending money they do not have in breach of the same rules.

Or are they ok because they are going to take in £25 million from the sale of Morelos?

It sounds like you and Lady S are having a great Irish adventure. With your surname, you are well at home. Great weekend in Belfast last. It zoomed in the 3 days though.

Pukki, Lassad, Kazim-Richards, Lassad, Miku, Brozek, Ciftci, Cole, Guidetti, Murphy, Rasmussen, Bangura all cost less than Edouard and flopped, probably £15M + wages between them

£7-9M on Édouard is good business, we know what we’re getting and he’s only going to get better

Pollok beat Cumbernauld 3.1 in the final.

Pollok scored early, Cumbernauld equalised after 25 mins.

Christy Lennon went off injured b4 half time, which was a big blow to Cumbernauld.

Pollok scored in 67 mins and then scored a third right at the death.

Cumbernauld competed well, but Pollok deserved winners over the piece.

We’ve had 2 days now of Neustadt-Braw trying to drum up interest in the SNP formation dancing team from yesterday. As he said himself, it prompted little interest and response.

His effort has been largely ignored by those of us who may feel a little differently about the matter, or feel that the offence of Brexit politics was not just limited to Scottish people. We did so because, the minute an alternative view is posted, the accusation of bringing politics onto the blog will be raised, and it will be raised by someone on the pro=Scottish Independence site, and ernie lynch will be blamed for commiting the offence

So, having ignored it for 2 days, and waited in vain for any accusations about politics being brought to the blog, your posts are now goading the “North Brits” to post in retaliation.

The rush to identify the Scottish Independence movement with the spirit of the Irish rebellion is misguided, misplaced and rejected by the majority of the pro-Independence movement (who shouted Jeanette Findlay down for her “tiochfaid ar la” post). It is an ahistorical badge of identification for the celtic support; it was not a pre-occupation of many of our forefathers. It is a Ploughman’s Lunch tradition.

So, with no excuse that there is no football to talk about (WC has started and Celtic signings are imminent) I would rather not get into this mud-slinging brawl on here.

Please, do not mistake my silence for seeing any merit in the way the argument is being framed.
