Paradox for Celtic as Lazio and Rennes both sit third domestically

318

Lazio won their ninth successive Serie A game at the weekend, a club record.  Currently, the second longest winning streak in the league is two games.  They are third in the table, three points off top.  They have not dropped a point since before their first game against Celtic in October, and in that time they beat Juventus in the league and Supercoppa Italiana.

Apart from the two defeats to Celtic, the only other game they have failed to win in this sequence was the Europa dead rubber in Rennes.

Not that Rennes are a pushover.  They have not dropped a point in five Ligue 1 games since their loss at Celtic Park in November, a run that puts them in third place.  By contrast, Moussa Dembele’s Lyon, who are twelfth in Ligue 1, qualified for the Champions League knockout stage.

Were it not for one horrible performance we would be glowing at the halfway point of the season.  We won a remarkable Europa League group, picked up our customary League Cup and sailed through the league campaign until a December, when a few narrow wins were a portent to a painful defeat.  This does not make achieving the improvement that is required easier.  Paradoxically, revisions need to take place on the side that won their Europa group to ensure we improve in the SPFL.

Agreed. But for a championship team to take the game to a supposed superior team on their own patch has to be admired

  2. My whelm is certainly “undered”…….but

I’m not sure what else we could have said.

I would like to tell the Blazers to go forth etc but not sure we can by dint of our membership of the SFA club?

Is the Fat Charlie thing NOT being looked at? And, that wee Kent an’ his gun-totin’?

    Nothin’??????

I mean its no as if they blessed themsels, eh!

One year on, will the latest Celtic statement be another hollow one.

Celtic and Scottish football had the chance to gut the @ScottisFA over their handling of the EBT scandal and the transfer of Rangers’ licence to Sevco’s shifty profiteers. Tonight’s statement is mere lip service to a disgruntled fan base. Sad days.

  4. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Deniabhoy,

Remember an article quite recently saying rangers have never been tested for drugs in Scotland

  5. The SFA,Traynor and the huns, will have the cigars and the champagne out yet again, after fkn us over, totally ashamed of the cowards who purport to lead us.

Celtic should have said john beaton witnessed 3 incidents by morelos in the one game including the stamp on the back of a prostrate celtic player an believed that to be ok.

We believe we are playing in a country where there is one rule for rangers and one for everyone else.

  7. Unfortunately i cannot cycle, due to an unfortunate incident involving a buxom Belgian girl, a fire grate, a half empty fire extinguisher and a feral dog in a town house in an upmarket area of the Dordogne region of South West France in the late 1950’s.

Driving cars is also not an option, the Dutch police were not impressed when the came to the realisation that i was using a walking stick to depress the clutch whilst attempting to change gear, i spent fantastical amounts of money on clutch cabling that is was financially crippling to take but the most pressing of journey’s using this method, the bishop of Angers wrote a very strongly worded letter with regard to this extravagance. Perhaps it was for the better the day the Dutch police finally put an end to it.

So, alas my cycling and driving days are over.

Celtic board statement pathetic mealy mouthed non specific from starch shirt shitebags.

  9. are celtic a scared of sevco and the power they seem to have? or are they just cowardly gutless tories

  10. Arsenal struggling at home against weaker opposition that are making excellent use of an effective press…

  11. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

The kneejerk anti – Board response to any , and that is ANY , reversal in the fortunes of Celtic , on or off the field , I used to find concerning.

It`s starting to become amusing .

If supporting Celtic is so painful for them , why do they continue to do it ?

  12. I genuinely think this will drive a lot of fans away from Celtic. It’s pointless supporting when the odds are stacked against you by the governing body. Why go to games when you know you will not be allowed to win. It’s not sport at this point. It’s now about who THEY want to win…..and without calling it out it will continue

  13. Also

Playing with pace is one thing

Playing with pace with an end product is another

Playing with pace for 15% of the game and trawling about the half way line for 85% of the time is yet another

  14. Arsenal a different team this half. They’ve pushed up on Leeds and played the game in their half with runners from deep making it impossible for Leeds to press.

Hope NFL is watching this game out in Dubai.

  15. Supposing there was a company, or, an individual who, when falling foul of a disciplinary system, were constantly found guilty and punished, even though others in a similar situations were constantly let off.

Supposing the company and/or individual never challenged these obvious injustices and time after time merely accepted their fate.

Would it be fantastic to suggest that those running the disciplinary system may have some piece, or pieces, of information detrimental to the company/individual that they threaten to release if the ‘boat is rocked’

I suggested something like this before and someone said it would be blackmail – I suggested maybe a ‘gentlemens’ agreement’.

  16. I remember watching Arsenal in the 1940’s.

This Arsenal team are nothing like the Arsenal side who played Derby County, George Allison was a man ahead of his time.

We used to call him the Tesla of North London back in those days.

Changed times, things were simpler back then, until the Belgian girl arrived on the scene. The Harlot of Benalux.

  17. Usual wishy washy statement from our club as was expected . Not fit to be in charge of our great club . We need action not words and we are about 8 year too late

  18. FAVOURITE UNCLE on

ARSENAL get free kick just outside box.3players gather round ball.brasilian ,frenchman and a greek.so they cover their mouths to talk.

FFS who could tell what they are saying.

  19. The response from our board will have them quaking in their shoes.

    Well done the board.

    Proud of you.

  20. The wider CELTIC fan base MUST urgently wake up and vocally demand / demonstrate in support of real board action / engagement with the NEED to start fighting back against SFA / SEVCO corruption – this continuous appeasement can’t continue !!

The fans need to show as much determination on this as we have on many other issues over the years……

Where is the sense and appreciation of having self respect ?

To the Board – Please STAND UP for the club / fan base much more forcibly and with greater conviction than has been shown of late !

I won’t make any assumption that I speak on behalf of the majority of fans – we all have the right to an opinion and see the world differently – however I am completely dumbstruck that we “appear” to just turn the other cheek……and accept the lot we are given !

I absolutely believe that we are right to expect more from those who represent / speak on our behalf…….

If there isn’t a desire to fight fire with fire then at least have the good grace to tell the fans why not !

Of course we are fans ( of Celtic ) and hold life long affinity / love / devotion to everything that Celtic represent and mean emotionally / spiritually as well as within the context of delivering our aspirations / ambitions in the sporting arena……without doubt, the Board members must be carved from the same stones.

However……..we are all customers of the business also and we quite rightly deserve some respect ( from those on the Board ) and that means that we shouldn’t be taken for granted……

I can’t be the only one on here who thinks that we appear to be happy to be ushered ( kicked ) to the back of the bus……?

    C’mon The Celts…..Hail……Hail…..🍀

  21. if neil lennon was not a puppet to mr lawell even he would object to that socalled statement

  22. When can we expect FTSFA to announce action on

    1) Kent or his imaginary shooting in the head if Celtic fans

    2) Morales for his imaginary slitting of Celtic fans throats

    3) the Sevco coach for threatening a Celtic coach after having been sent to the stand

    4) Gerrard for assaulting a camera/cameraman by swatting it away from filming

    5) the Sevco, non squad member, being sent to the back of goals
