Pairing up and testing, £17m running figure

330

The search to resolve our defensive problems this season stretch back before the departure of Virgil van Dijk in August. Dedryck Boyata and Efe Ambrose have struggled with form, which our big summer signing, Jozo Simunovic, has endured two lengthy injury lay-offs.

Defensive stats have been revolutionised since the January arrival of Erik Sviatchenk, who was voted the Danish Superliga’s Player of the Year last night. We have achieved six clean-sheets in his nine starts, losing only a solitary goal each game the defence was breached. It took 20 games to record six clean-sheets before the Dane arrived.

We are far from the finished article at the back. The clean-sheets mask perennial failures to defend corner kicks, which have recently resulted good chances, instead of goals conceded. But, progress has been clear. Jozo’s been out of the team since the week before Erik’s arrival.

One of the things we need between now and the end of the season is these two paired up and tested. You win things (and qualify for things) when you stop conceding goals.

I remember the days I’d pour over Oldco Rangers’ accounts for insights into the future and comparisons with our own business model. I’d a cursory look at The Rangers Football Club’s accounts this morning. There is little of comparative relevance for us, or indeed, probably for Newco’s short-term future, should they gain promotion this season.

The one area that offers comparison is the cost of running a football business in a stadium which occasionally caters for crowds of 50,000 or more. With first team wages (I assume this refers to professional players employed) stripped out, expenses during the paired-down Easdale-led season was just north of £17m.

This is a useful guide of what it costs to pay your rates, electricity , insurance and the million other bills when you need to occasionally cater for 50,000-ish crowds, although many costs, like police, will reflect a lower tariff due to the lack of actual footfall. We don’t get as clear a picture of this cost from Celtic, who don’t separate player wages from non-playing staff. My hunch is that Celtic’s paried-down figure will be a few million higher (the silver polish bill alone….).

I think you’ll find I praised the club for getting these glamour fixtures, and said well done.

However, I made the point about criminalising the fans and also the despicable behaviour by our board towards Res 12.

So it would appear to me that the difference between you and me is that I will praise when praise is earned and I will make my disgust known when our board treat sporting integrity with disdain.

You on the other hand only want positive posts ala North Korea, let’s forget about the cheating and move on.

Sorry but this Tim is an angry Tim in regards to our boards behaviour going back to 2012, therefore that may seap through in some of my posts. HH

    Good Evening All.

The request for the current mandate is quite separate to your signature supporting the original resolution. I had this enquiry from the mystical Malorbhoy as well today.

The mandate that is now sought is to allow the solicitors concerend to formally write on your behalf as well as others to the the SFA, The Club and UEFA. Accordingly as many mandates as possible are sought and not just from those who originally signed up for Res 12 but from as many individual and group shareholders as we can find who are willing to follow this course.

Chris — I had a long chat with Maire M last week as she was up visiting my mum and she said something in conversation which you have just repeated — which in truth I don’t agree with and is a bit daft — and that is that Res 12 has nothing to do with the trust.

With respect, I disagree as that doesn’t make sense to me.

At the time, shortly before the 2013 AGM, I was asked to come on board as a kind of “case manager” and so co-ordinate a couple of things.

Had I had more time at the time and had the chance I would have undoubtedly approached the trust and sought the trust’ss backing or support. Alas that didn’t happen because time was spent persuading Celtic PLC to change their stance on opposing the resolution and so the time was taken up presenting evidence and arguments about why there was a case for the SFA to answer and which menat the Resolution was most definitely necessary.

Where we are at the current time is that we are trying to get as many shareholders as possible to sign a mandate which simply authorises the lawyers to write as I have said above, This includes ALL Celtic shareholders be they individuals, supporters clubs and associations, the trust and anyone or anything else whose name is on a share certificate.

Obviously, neither support or action is compulsory but equally I want to make it very clear to everyone that this is not about just some individuals, or differnet groups, or factions etc. It is not for only those who proposed and supported Res 12 at the outset it for everyone and anyone who — now, today, this week and tomorrow – wants to see a set of lawyers take this on to the next level and to put real legal pressure on anyone who stands in the way of serious and legitimate questions being asked and answered.

So whether anyone supported Res 12 at the time or didn’t, was or is a member of the trust or isn’t, is a member of a CSA or isn’t, has a season book or hasn’t, is in the UK or isn’t — it is all immaterial.

If you have shares and you want to support what we are doing then print, sign and send a mandate.

We have no idea if we will win through at the end of the day, though we have an awful lot of info which says we should, but by God it is far better to have a right good go at it than to look yourself in the mirror and acknowledge that you didn’t get off your butt and give the whole system a good “Bishop Brennan” like kick up the arse.

Of course, supporting Res 12 does not preclude any other action, any other initiative or any other clever ideas that should or could be followed by fans, groups of fans, season book holders or whoever.

It is just that Res 12 is the one I have been asked to boot down the track a bit,

So — sign a mandate and let’s see what comes of it.

    Best to all.

  3. While its good to be part of a pre season tournament with some big names and PL Im sure is delighted that he can pretend that we are a big club and that he is important. Another day goes by without PL addressing the real issue ie Res 12 which has the potential to blow up in his and Celtics face . A welcome squirrel Mr.Lawell ? Also with all due respect Paul 67 , what are your thoughts on Celtics lack of action / cowardice / collusion ( take your pick ) in all this ? You seem to be skirting round the edges , even giving us a report on Sevcos Accounts today. There are a few HUGE issues concerning all Celtic Fans yet there are no real meat on any of your recent articles . I honestly aint trying to cause trouble but I would have expected a great site like CQN to be rallying fans to put pressure on Celtic on their stance regarding resolution 12 . Im truly baffled

My experience of the Bowen therapy is positive , especially when administered within 48hours from the injury. It can still be successful after this but patience is required. You may think “wtf” after the first session. You will be advised to rest & drink lots of water. Stick with it .KTF.

A “heads up” re the hotels pricing for the night of 30th July IF planning trip to Dublin……….

Just made a provisional booking for a Dublin South Side hotel which is about 10 miles from the Aviva Stadium ( 15 minutes on the Dart ) and receptionist noted that prices for that night have been “significantly increased” IN LAST FEW HOURS for that night so suggest if you’re coming over for the Barca match that you secure accommodation asap !!

  11. Oh dear, it is thought by the organisers of the summer tournament that Celtic are a big name and should be invited to play with the big teams, and some on here are decrying it as a farce. For them it is PL finding a way to make money. Can we not see it as it is a recognition that this club has at times been among the greats and are still remembered for that? I’ll be looking for tickets.

With regard to PL, I have not always seen eye to eye with all of his actions and have written to him on several occasions about the OB Act and Res 12. I have always had a reply. True it may not always have been what I wanted to hear, but I also realise that I do not always possess all of the elements that go to cause decisions to be reach.

Jobo — I have not yet watched this evening’s episode – though thus far it should perhaps have been called “Better call Mike” as he is by far the most interesting character.

With all due respect I did know all about it long before it became known as resolution 12 and total respect to the guys who started it all and continue to drive it fwd BUT why should it be left to a group of fans . Surely Celtic should be doing this. I keep hoping that behind the scenes Celtic ARE doing things ( maybe you know things I dont know , you are an esteemed poster and maybe well connected ) My gut feeling like many fans is they dont want the hassle or worse they have known for a long time they had been cheated but are either too afraid to seek justice or god forbid they are part of the whole “lets move on and forget” brigade .

Not backing Lawell but the cynicism here is a joke, Celtic have done well to organise 3 glamour pre season games, 2 fixed for Glasgow & Dublin minimising travel.

Yet some portray it as some kind of con to soak more money out of Supporters.

I think it was a great bit of work and I for one am thrilled at the prospect of Celtic & Barca in Dublin.

    Dermot might make it too,unless he’s at the golf…….the rugby……..the horse racing……

My point earlier was Lawwell playing the ‘big club’ card,in his new found UEFA statesmanlike manner, sticks in the throat. Appointing project managers on 350k a year, and having his pal as Chief Scout, who wouldn’t know a striker,if Henrik Larsson chapped his front door. Has he told the fans and Shareholders about supporting Res 12 to the nth degree? HH
